A miniature of Gulangyu: Shuzhuang Garden

☘️ Shuzhuang Garden, located in the southern part of Gulangyu, Xiamen, was built in 1913 and is the private villa of the famous gentleman Lin Erjia. The owner named it after the homophonic of his word 'Shuzhuang', where 'Shu' is a general term for beans, and 'Shuzhuang' implies the owner's intention of retiring to the countryside. 🌿 The garden faces the sea and backs onto Sunlight Rock, with the architecture mainly in the Minnan style and with Western colors. Gulangyu is a miniature of Xiamen, and Shuzhuang Garden is a miniature of Gulangyu. 🍁 The garden is divided into two parts: Bushan Garden and Canghai Garden. The main view of Bushan Garden is the artificial hill, which is a series of caves created by man. There are twelve interconnected caves in the hill, each named after the twelve zodiac signs. In Canghai Garden, the most famous is the Forty-four Bridge, which was built by the mistress to commemorate Lin Erjia's 44th birthday. There is a sluice gate under the bridge, which can lead the sea water into the garden, forming the spectacle of the sea in the garden and the garden in the sea. 💰 Ticket price: 30 yuan/person.
