Xinlin Old House in Xinbei Village, Xingning, Guangdong

The Xinlin Old House covers an area of about 5,410 square meters, with the main building being 70.1 meters wide and 53.5 meters deep, occupying a land area of 3,300 square meters. The Xinlin Old House was built during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, founded by the twelfth ancestor of the Chen family. The house faces south with its back to the north and is a type of 'three halls and five horizontal enclosures' dragon house, with a grain drying area and a pond in front of the gate. Inside the enclosure, there are about 150 rooms and 6 courtyards. The whole house is built on a rammed earth foundation with walls made of earth bricks, wood, and tiles, and has a hard mountain-style roof. The main entrance is supported by two stone pillars, and the stone base in front of the door is carved with a relief of a Qilin as an ornament. The upper, middle, and lower halls are intact, with the middle hall featuring a beam frame, and the main beam is carved with cloud and ruyi patterns. On August 10, 2009, the Xinlin Old House was announced by the Xingning Municipal People's Government as a protected unit of 'Xingning's Characteristic Ancient Residences'.
