Seeking Immortals in Dengzhou | Carved beams and painted rafters at Yantai Fujian Guild Hall, Tianhou Palace

Yantai Fujian Guild Hall, established in the tenth year of the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty, took twenty-two years to complete. It is known as the first palace north of the Yangtze River, and because Fujian generally worships Mazu, there is also the Tianhou Palace (Shanxi Guild Hall generally has Guan Gong in the same vein). The main hall is simple and solid, with characteristics of Southern Fujian architecture. The carvings under the eaves are intricate and dense, with exquisite craftsmanship, well-preserved and clear in color, presenting an endless variety of themes. The guild hall is free to visit, located near the city, and is highly recommended for a stroll.
