"There is no coffee or tea provided complimentarily. There’s no spoon for stirring coffee even if you buy your own coffee or tea. So you also need to buy spoon from convenient shop or bring along a spoon from home when you travel to the hotel. The cleaning is not everyday when when I stay there for 11 nights. When clean up signage is out in the door they are being ignored. So you will not know what to do with the rubbish piled up in the rubbish bin. Even when cleaning was done, the standard was not good. Can still find stain in the sink and the bath. Some of the personnel at front desk also do not provide the standard greetings that would expect from service provider when eyes met. I was there tired and wanted to have a check in early, one of the girl said no negotiation check in at 3 pm. Then another said can check in earlier by 1 hour at 2 pm and and pay 1200 yen. So they don’t really know what they are doing? Instruction on early check in not clear? They also need to pay attention to the maintenance of the room and that depends on the cleaning crew and the maintenance team. Don’t stay near the vending machine room, you will hear dropping of the soft drinks. Beside the human factor at the front desk and the cleaning crew, the restaurant is good and the location is great. Bus stops to the city central is 5 minutes away and if walk to the city is about 15 to 20 minutes depending on where you go. Longer if you get distracted."

"This is my second stay at a Mitsui Garden Hotel, the last one being in Tokyo. The hotel chain consistently offers great service. This particular hotel is very close to Nagoya subway station, about a 5-7 minute walk. There's an underground shopping area right below where you can eat and shop, and a 7-Eleven across the street for breakfast or snacks. Within about a 5-minute walk, you'll also find popular eateries like Sekai no Yamachan, Isomaru Suisan, and Torikizoku, which is very convenient."

Wake-up call
"The location is very convenient, close to Meitetsu Nagoya Station and the bus terminal. I've stayed here before after exploring the surrounding area. There are several large department stores and drugstores nearby, making shopping easy. There are also plenty of dining options in the vicinity. The staff are very enthusiastic. The room isn't huge, but it's well laid out, and the bed isn't very big, which is perfect for a solo traveler. You can pick up yukata and various toiletries yourself. The breakfast is good, with delicious local specialties. You can store your luggage, and the lobby is a great spot to relax with a coffee. Excellent!"

"The room is spacious and well equipped. It's a bit far from Nagoya station and not many buses around the hotel. It's a bit inconvenient. There's shuttle bus available in the morning on weekdays. Longer service time on weekends. Maybe the hotel is busy, the lounge staff wasn't too friendly. I have short hair but I found a long hair on my bed under the blanket. The bedsheet has some black colour fabric fibers but I wore light colour pajamas."

"The hotel has a new and an old wing. My discounted room was in the old wing, so the facilities were a bit dated. Nevertheless, the Meitetsu property was still very well-equipped with everything I needed, and it was spotlessly clean. Its proximity to Kanayama Station made visiting the aquarium very convenient. "Very close to Sakae Station and the Bus Terminal, but if you have a heavy carrier, the walk may be lengthened to an extra block due to a lack of elevators on the nearer side to the hotel. Interesting style of a sliding door between the bedroom and hall/powder room area.  No tub, only shower booth with shower gel/shampoo/conditioner. Free coffee daily from 7am to midnight, with breakfast cereal in the morning, and some tea bags. Downside for smokers is, no smoking area in the vacinity. One can smoke at the 7/11 couple of blocks away. One can get a portable ash tray and smoke outside the hotel building.  There seems to be bike rental service available, which I never got to."

Nagoya Hotels: Where to Stay for Local Food, History & Easy Transit Access

Nagoya Hotels: Where to Stay for Local Food, History & Easy Transit Access

About Nagoya

Nagoya is Japan's fourth-largest city, sitting on the Shinkansen corridor between Tokyo and Kyoto, yet it's often overlooked by travelers — which means a less touristy, more authentic Japanese experience ideal for a stopover. Its headline landmarks include Nagoya Castle, one of Japan's "Three Famous Castles" crowned with golden kinshachi roof ornaments and home to the reconstructed Honmaru Palace with samurai-era interiors, and Atsuta Jingu, one of the country's oldest Shinto shrines that enshrines the legendary Kusanagi sword. The city also has a distinctive food culture built around hatcho miso, with local specialties like miso katsu, hitsumabushi, and tebasaki that define the city's culinary identity.

When to Book Nagoya Hotels

  • Nagoya's peak hotel seasons are March–April (cherry blossom), October–November (autumn foliage), and late December (year-end holidays) — book early as prices climb quickly around Nagoya Castle and Atsuta Shrine during these windows.
  • Budget travelers can find better Nagoya deals in June or February, when demand dips — though June–July is hot and rainy, and February is cold.
  • Nagoya's shoulder seasons — May (warm weather after the spring peak, fewer tourists) and September (calmer after summer) — offer moderate prices and lighter crowds at major sights.
  • Japanese school holiday periods (late March to early April, late July to August, late December to early January) push Nagoya hotel rates up; book ahead if your dates overlap any of these windows.
  • Pick a hotel near Nagoya Station or a subway line — the city's six metro lines cover nearly 100 km, and staying near a station saves real time each day.
  • For international trips to Nagoya, book 1–3 months ahead for regular travel and 3–6 months ahead for peak seasons; Sunday tends to be the cheapest booking day.
  • Trip.com deal tactics: switch on price alerts for Nagoya properties, join Trip.com Rewards for member-only rates, bundle flight and hotel for extra savings, and use map view to spot value neighborhoods outside the immediate station zone.
  • Japan's Obon holiday (mid-August, roughly Aug 13–16) is a major domestic travel peak — Nagoya hotels fill up and rates surge, so lock in reservations well ahead if visiting during this period.

Nagoya Travel Essentials

Transport

  • Nagoya Municipal Subway runs 6 lines covering nearly 100 km, linking most points within the city limits.
  • City buses charge a flat ¥210 per ride; the main bus terminals are at Nagoya Station and Sakae (Oasis 21).
  • A subway-and-bus one-day pass costs ¥870 for adults. IC cards like manaca, TOICA, and Suica work across all Nagoya transit.

Food

  • Miso katsu — deep-fried pork cutlet topped with thick, savory red miso sauce — is the dish most associated with Nagoya.
  • Miso nikomi udon features thick udon noodles simmered in bold red miso broth and served in a clay pot — the city's signature winter comfort dish.
  • Hatcho miso, a dark red soybean miso aged up to 3 years, is the foundation of Nagoya Meshi, the city's distinctive local cuisine.

Weather

  • Nagoya has hot summers (30–35°C) and cool winters (5–10°C daytime); the most comfortable months are March–May and October–November, with mild temperatures of 15–25°C.
  • The rainy season runs June–July with heavy but brief showers; summer humidity is high, and locals often retreat to underground malls and cafes at midday.
  • Spring (Mar–May) and autumn (Oct–Nov) are mild and dry — ideal for outdoor sightseeing at Nagoya Castle, Atsuta Shrine, and Osu Shopping Street.

※ Prices and policies vary by season and are subject to change. Confirm with official sources before booking.

GGuest UserI'm extremely satisfied with this hotel's location and room layout/amenities. The Rong business district has everything you could possibly need for dining and shopping. I booked a larger room type, which was essentially the price and size of two standard rooms. I saw a family of three next to me convert the sofa bed into a single bed, which seems perfect for them. As mentioned in previous reviews, the hotel staff can be quite aloof; the older local employees don't offer any pleasantries. I appreciate that you need to swipe your card in the elevator to access guest floors, making it feel very secure.

AAnonymous UserI came for a concert, and the hotel is right behind Niterra, so it was super convenient to just step out. It's also very close to Kanayama Station, which made shopping and getting to the airport easy. For Japan, the room size was decent and had all the necessary amenities. The lobby offered free coffee, and they even thoughtfully wrote a message for concert-goers.

EEmmalanVery close to Sakae, about a 10-minute walk. You can find both budget-friendly and high-end shopping there. The airport bus stop is super convenient: turn left out of the hotel, cross the street, then turn right, and it's just a three-minute walk. The subway is also nearby, about a five-minute walk. I booked a twin room, which came with two chairs and a small round table. The space isn't huge but it's perfectly adequate. There's a laundry room, an ice machine, and even a microwave on each floor. The only downside was the long wait for the elevator.

GGuest UserThis hotel is super convenient for getting around, being close to the Shinkansen exit at Nagoya Station. The room wasn't large, but it was spotless, and the bedding was comfortable. There are plenty of convenience stores and restaurants nearby, which was great during our trip. With its excellent value for money and location, I'd definitely want to stay here again on my next visit to Nagoya.

TTiantianzhuizhumaqidaThe location is excellent, right in front of Nagoya Station. I specifically chose it for its proximity to the bus center since I was taking a highway bus. It's super convenient with izakayas and the station nearby, and I even discovered a theater. The breakfast was also plentiful and delicious. The room size wasn't small at all, and while double beds are usually 1.4 meters wide, this one was 1.6 meters, which felt very spacious. Plus, they had a great selection of amenities downstairs.

BBy DebI recently stayed 9h Nine Hours in Nagoya and had a pleasant experience overall. One of the biggest advantages of this hostel is its excellent location. It is conveniently located near Nagoya Station, making it easy to travel around the city and to other destinations. There are also plenty of cafes, restaurants, and convenience stores nearby, which made my stay even more convenient. The staff were very friendly, welcoming, and helpful throughout my stay. The sleeping pods are located on a different floor from the shower area, changing room, and luggage storage. On the positive side, this setup helps keep the sleeping area quiet and comfortable. I was able to rest well every night without being disturbed by noise. However, the separation of the facilities can be a little inconvenient. If you forget something in your luggage or need to grab an item, you have to take the elevator and move between floors. In addition, the shower and grooming area can get quite crowded during peak hours, especially in the early morning and late evening. At those times, you may need to wait for a shower, hair dryer, or space to get ready. Despite these minor inconveniences, I really enjoyed my stay. The hostel was clean, comfortable, and well-organized, and I would happily stay here again when visiting Nagoya.

GGbooThis is a Meitetsu Inn property, so the rooms are on the smaller side, with typical Japanese unit baths. At night, the street below transforms into a vibrant, neon-lit entertainment district. The location is excellent, very close to Nagoya Station and Nagoya Castle, and right by Hisaya-odori Subway Exit 4, just a five-minute walk away. The breakfast on the first floor, though simple, is quite good. The restaurant offers complimentary tea and coffee all day (until 9 PM) and has a microwave. Vending machines are located on the 4th and 11th floors. There's also a self-service laundry. Amenities are available for self-service right next to the elevators on the first floor, facing the front desk. The front desk service was the most 'Showa-era' (old-fashioned, warm, and attentive) hospitality I've ever encountered – incredibly friendly. Perhaps because it was a Saturday, the price I paid seemed to be about double the usual rate. However, overall, it offers great value for money. Highly recommended!

GGuest UserThe hotel was very conveniently located, close to the live house we were visiting that weekend. The facilities were very clean, including the bathroom, and the beds were comfortable. We slept well. The staff was efficient and helpful, and they kindly stored our luggage both before check-in and after check-out. The only downside is that the hotel is located in a very lively area of Nagoya, and it was quite noisy outside until late at night. We personally didn’t have any trouble sleeping, and there was no noise from neighboring rooms, but it’s something worth keeping in mind.

GGuest UserA bit of an older hotel but it was quite charming. My room had lots of sunshine. The floors were quite damaged. The AC worked well. When I arrived, my name was attached to a key with my room number on it, so check it was seamless. They offer free ramen for breakfast and water in the reception area. There is also a place outside where you can sit and eat during your stay. The room was also pretty large for the price. It had a small fridge (though mine wasn’t plugged in) and a table with a chair if you wanted to do some work or eat in your room. The bathroom had toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, and body soap.
