The outside of the hotel needs sprucing up, the inside is tired too, but our room was huge. A slight sea view too. The staff were all lovely, breakfast was great too. The location was a pleasant walk away from the Princess Theatre. Plenty of places to eat along the way too.
This hotel is very clean and all the woman receptionist very polite and helpful. Very happy with the service from them. The 2 man night staff were not helpful. I didn’t understand why I can’t order drink for our room and pay end of the stay. We even received letter in the morning that was outside the room not in envelope which everyone can read I didn’t like at all , reason been dater protection with don’t forget to pay for our order which we did straight away and had my full name on it.We stayed for 3 night so what was such a problem for those 2 night shift man. Otherwise all our stay was perfect. Thank u
Big problems at check in but this was actually trip.coms faulty for not confirming booking with hotel.
Trip.com happy to take my money first had to complaint against trip.com the compensated me but with a fight.
Location good you get breakfast included don't expect anything special. Like no round eggs.
Torquay is quite expensive so alcohol and drinks prices at the hotel high.
You can walk to marina in 5 minutes.
No car parking so if you want parking be prepared to walk
This is very good for a 3-star hotel at the price charged, and the management has taken steps to rectify some of the problems mentioned in other reviews. My wife and I were in a standard twin room which has been recently refurbished. The room was simple but had new furniture, carpet and bathroom suite and was pleasantly decorated. The mattresses were comfortable. The buffet breakfast offered a good choice, but the sausages could have been of better quality. There was entertainment in the form of different solo vocalists every evening starting at 8.00pm. This was slanted toward an older clientele (centring mainly on coach parties), and many have limited appeal to younger customers. The bar prices were fairly average, with a 2 for 1 offer for the coach parties (not us). The big criticism many reviewers have of hotel internet has been addressed and there was good free internet in our room with a download speed in excess of 20 meg. There is no dedicated car park, but ample unresticted street parking all around the hotel, certainly at this time of the year. There is a rear hotel entrance adjacent to the coach car part that is only about 300 metres from the seas frong. The Babbacombe cliff railway is only a futher 100 metres away. Also close to this rear entrance is a Tesco Express. There are several restaurants and pubs within walking distance, as is Plainmoor, the home of Torquay United.
We felt that the downsides were minor but some customers may miss having a room fridge or in room safe, and as mentioned the breakfast could be improved with quality sausages and grilled rather than tinned tomatoes. One oddity in our room was that a mains power outlet next to the tea/coffee tray had had a blanking plate fitted, when a 13 amp socket would have made it possible to use the kettle in that position (looks like a very easy fix if management read this).
Hotel was very clean, staff were helpful and friendly. Location was perfect and the view from our window was lovely. Only negative I have was that the shower water was cold and the water only came through as a trickle. Apart from that I had lovely stay and it was value for money and would definitely stay again.

The hotel was pretty average. The location was fabulous. The room was very warm, even with the window open. The beds weren't very comfortable and the bathroom could do with some major cleaning and upgrading. The breakfast was okay, just buffet style. The bar was expensive and the pinot wine was yellow and didn't taste to clever. The staff were very pleasant. Overall it wasn't too bad.

Very nice hotel & staff beautiful views from balcony
Absolutely lovely as usual. Please tell trip.com that check in at the Cliffden hotel is not 11am to 06am Check in is 4pm and your website is misleading people. This is very naughty from Trip
GGuest UserThe hotel itself was nice; can’t fault it. Our room however, had a weird, stale smell and was off-putting, with no way to ventilate the room by opening the windows, as you cannot open them - A/C is not a natural ventilation.
Bed was comfortable, slept perfectly fine, just not nice waking up with the smell, as mentioned before.
Breakfast was good, although I’ve had better.
Booked this hotel for one night for me and my 2 kids, unfortunately when arrived to the hotel they couldn't see my kids in the system...however kids stay there for free so it was not trouble at all. Hotel is clean, comfortable, quiet and very close to the harbour. Would definitely book it again:) There was a lovely gym at the same floor where our room was.
GGuest UserLovely friendly place next to the river. Plenty of parking facilities just over the bridge which is approx five minute walk. The room itself is spacious enough although for some may be a little dated. Bed is comfortable with a lovely duvet and pillows. Only downside was the curtains which are not blackout so do let in too much light for me but heyho I still had a reasonable night sleep To get to the room we stayed in, we had to walk up a spiral staircase which for some people, this could be a struggle as the steps have been assembled quite tightly due to space so make the steps on the small side, there is obviously a handrail so coming down side ways helps. Breakfast was continental consisting of fruit, cereal, yoghurt ( which was exceptionally tasty) toast etc. An English breakfast was offered at an additional cost but we preferred this option. All in all a lovely place to stay with friendly welcoming hosts who were on hand to offer advise and assistance should you need it.
Had an issue where I booked three rooms but the hotel could only find the one room booked. Showed the staff my booking details from Trip and they could see I had three. After about 20 minutes they gave me the two additional rooms and they said they would investigate. Really pleased that they were able to sort this out very quickly. Breakfast was really good. Only two minutes walk to the sea front. We had access to the the site 25 hour gym and their spa. My mum was the only one who went and she enjoyed it. Would definitely go back again.
GGuest UserStayed recently for 4 nights. Loved the convenience of the location next to A38 and a free parking, nearby superstore and various food retailers. Didn't have a chance to try the food offered by the hotel but the 24/7 menu looked really good, if one didn't feel like getting food elsewhere after a busy day at work. Staff were polite and welcoming. Would definitely use this hotel again.
