Yu Qingtang, located in the north of Xitang Shaoxiang Lane, is a Jiangnan residence built in the Republic of China. It is now a wooden carving hall of the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and houses more than 250 pieces of wooden carving crafts of Jiangnan residential buildings during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. But in addition to the various beams, arches, and other exquisite wood carvings can be seen, this old house is also very interesting. This is a typical Jiangnan water town building, facing the street and the river. The last time I entered the water and built it was the water pier of the building. The small pier also made a corridor hall and a beauty. The most special thing is that this house has the shortest alley in Xitang. There are as many as 122 lanes in Xitang, with two parallel streets connected, the water lane in the river behind the front street, and the accompanying lane in the large house on the side of the hall. This house in Yuqingtang is the accompanying lane on the side of the hall. Accompanying is an indoor or house alley, but there are still walls separated from neighbors. In the old days, there was no big event that the main door was not opened easily. Every time there was a wedding and funeral celebration or a VIP visit, the door was opened and carried into the sedan chair. Accompanying is used to connect the side door to let the family enter and exit.
