If it's your first time visiting Yi Garden, be sure to check out this guide
Tour route: The eastern part is mainly courtyards and buildings, starting from the main gate (facing Renmin Road) — Yuyan Pavilion — Sishi Xiaosa Pavilion — Yuhong Pavilion — Stone Boat, Suolü Pavilion (accessible to the northwest rockery via the Fu Corridor) — (heading south) Poxian Qin Gallery — Baishi Pavilion (heading west from the south end of the Fu Corridor to enter the western part)
The western part centers around the pond, with Yuanyang Hall (north of the hall is the Lotus Fragrance Pavilion, also known as the Lotus Hall, and south of the hall is the Chuyue Pavilion, also known as the Plum Blossom Hall) — Biwu Qifeng — Mianbi Pavilion — Huafang Studio — Zhanlu Hall — Luoji Pavilion — Xiao Canglang — Jin Su Pavilion
1⃣️ Lotus Fragrance Pavilion (Chuyue Hall): As the main hall of the entire garden, in the style of Yuanyang Hall, the name Lotus Fragrance Pavilion comes from Du Fu's poem 'Sparse trees under empty clouds, spring lotus fragrance on the mat,' and is also known as the Lotus Hall. In midsummer, one can enjoy lotuses and watch fish from the platform. The name Chuyue Pavilion comes from Yuan Sadula's poem 'Today's return is like yesterday's dream, I hoe the bright moon to plant plum blossoms,' named for the hundred plum trees planted to the south of the old pavilion, hence also known as 'Plum Blossom Hall'; in the harsh winter, one can seek plums and watch the snow through the warm pavilion.
2⃣️ Calligraphy Stones: The corridor walls are inlaid with 101 carved stones of calligraphy by historical calligraphers such as Wang Xizhi, Huai Su, and Mi Fu, known as 'Yi Garden Calligraphy Collection.' They are concentrated on the long corridor south of the western 'Huafang Studio.' The 'Jade Pillow' Lanting and the books of the Five Gentlemen of the Eastern Forest alone are rare treasures. Among them, the 'Lantingji Xu' carved stone is the 'Jade Pillow' Lanting. It is said that Wang Xizhi's 'Lantingji Xu' ink traces were buried with Emperor Taizong of Tang in the 23rd year of the Zhenguan era (649 AD). During the Song Dynasty, Jia Sidao obtained a copy that was no different from the original, which was meticulously carved onto the jade pillow by craftsmen over a year and a half, preserving Wang Xizhi's authentic work, which is extremely precious.
3⃣️ Baishi Pavilion, also known as Suihan Caolu: — As the main building of the eastern garden, Song Dynasty's Mi Fu was obsessed with stones and would bow to any strange stone he saw, hence the name 'Mi Dian Baishi,' and the pavilion was named 'Baishi Pavilion' because of the many strange stones in the courtyard to the north. The courtyard to the south of the pavilion is planted with pines, cypresses, hollies, square bamboos, and camellias, all of which do not wither in winter and flourish alone in the cold, hence it is also called 'Suihan Caolu.'
Garden features🈶: The garden is not large, but it absorbs the strengths of various gardens, cleverly sets up landscapes, and has its own style. The garden layout is divided into eastern and western parts by the Fu Corridor, with the eastern part focusing on buildings, courtyards with lake stones, and planted flowers and trees, while the western part has a central pond surrounded by rockeries, flowers, trees, and buildings. In the art of garden construction, it draws from the scenery of various gardens, such as the Fu Corridor imitating the Canglang Pavilion, the pond imitating the Master of the Nets Garden, the rockery learning from the Huanxiu Villa, the grottoes imitating the Lion Grove, and the dry boat resembling the Humble Administrator's Garden. The layout is natural, with pavilions, galleries, and boats that are small and elegant, and the mountains, ponds, flowers, and trees are sparse and pleasant, making it a fine example of a garden. In the western part, based on the Humble Administrator's Garden, the north is excavated to form a pond, with the Yuanyang Hall (Lotus Fragrance Pavilion and Chuyue Pavilion) as the main building of the garden. The stacked rocks in the northwest part refer to the Huanxiu Villa, with the Lion's Den Gorge, winding paths, and bizarre caves.
The garden is still good, the size is in the middle, it is very good to go shopping. There are also many places where you can take pictures. There are not many people in the small garden, so you can just stroll around carefully, which is very good.
Avoid several large gardens with a large number of people and a long-standing reputation, come to Yiyuan > Yiyuan was built in the late Qing Dynasty 1874-1882. Gu Wenbin, Ningshaotai Road, Zhejiang Province, built it for nine years on the site of Wukuan's old house in the Ming Dynasty, costing 200,000 yuan and built it. He took the phrase "Brother Yiyi" in the Analects and called Yiyuan. Yiyuan is the youngest garden, covering a small area, but can absorb the length of each garden, ingeniously set the landscape, self-contained. Fulang imitation Canglang Pavilion, pool effect net teacher garden, rockery ring show villa, Dongyu Lion Forest, dry boats are Humble Administrator's Garden. The layout is natural, the pavilion and corridor are small and elegant, and the mountains and trees are sparse and pleasant, which can be called the boutique in the garden.
Very good, the most cost-effective! Minor gardens, there are many people everywhere during the Spring Festival, because of the niche, there are fewer people, and you can slowly taste the beauty of the gardens in the Jiangnan water town. Other public gardens are crowded and have no experience. The garden is small and exquisite, highly recommended!
Yiyuan can visit with the cloud building, are the rich businessman Gu Wenbin's house in the late Qing Dynasty. Yiyuan is one of the eight major gardens in Suzhou. Although the area is not large, its gambling garden, the pool in the garden, the rockery inlaid in the wall of the calligraphy master works of the past generations, the lake stone of various shapes... elegant and unique. Unfortunately, the garden of the plum has withered, but the red plum white plum has a sputum to be released, is also expected.
The memories of childhood are back, and before school, my grandmother will take me to play almost every two or three days, a very delicate little garden. There is a thousand-year-old ginkgo and a net red maple tree in the backyard. The maple tree really wants to boast that it is not the traditional red but the orange-red glazed. It also has light (˶‾᷄ ⁻̫ ‾᷅˵) It rains lightly on Sunday. The new people taking wedding photos in the park have more than five pairs. It also shows how beautiful the scenery is.
The transportation is very convenient. Get off at Leqiao Station of Metro Line 1 and Line 4, Exit 8, go straight for a few steps to the left hand side to Yiyuan. The beauty of Suzhou gardens can be seen in Yiyuan. There are pomegranate fruit and green dates at the entrance, and you can enjoy the lotus in summer. There are not many tourists, the ticket is 15 yuan, and the tea room inside has to drink afternoon tea for 100 yuan. It is recommended to bring your own tea.
