Humen Fort

The former sites of Humen Fortress are distributed in places such as Dajiaoshan Wushan and Dahushan on both sides of the Pearl River. After Lin Zexu sold out his cigarettes, he and Guan Tianpei, the naval admiral, mobilized the people to prepare for defense, reinforced and built 11 forts, and set up more than 300 cannons. Shajiao Fortress and Dajiao Fortress are the first portals, Weiyuan, Zhenyuan, Jingyuan, Consolidation, Yongan, Hengdangqianshan platforms are the second portals, and Dahu Fortress is the third portal, and three lines of defense are organized. In Jiangxi Province between Hengdang Island and Wushan Mountain, two rows of wooden rafts and 372 zhang large iron chains were set up to intercept enemy ships. During the Opium War, the British invaders were repeatedly defeated. Except for a few of the current Humen Forts located in Panyu District, most of them are managed by the Opium War Museum. According to the geographical distribution, they are divided into relatively concentrated Shajiao Fortresses and Weiyuan Fortresses. The Shajiao Fortress Management Office and Weiyuan Fortress were established respectively. Managed by the Battery Management Office. The forts are mostly made of strips of stone and ash, sand, and yellow mud, and the plane circle or half-moon shape is divided into two types: open-air platforms (namely bright platforms) and dark platforms. The Weiyuan Fort has been preserved so far. It is made of granite stone with a total length of 360 and a height of 45 meters. There are a total of 25 gun positions, each with a height of 2.9, a width of 4.2, and a depth of 6.6 meters. There are storage rooms and lounges for officers and soldiers beside the gun emplacements. Jiebinghuo Tomb is located about 100 meters from Shajiao Pao Taipei. On January 7, 1841, 75 officers and soldiers of the Qing army who died heroically when the British attacked Shajiao Fortress were buried here. Now there is a "Mound of Volunteer" on the Humen Fort, where some soldiers who died fighting against the British army were buried there. Behind the Shajiao Fort at the west foot of Baicao Mountain in Humen is the "Jiebing Yi Tomb".
