Victoria Peak's Lions Pavilion

Victoria Peak Garden was originally the gardens for Mountain Lodge , the summer residence for the Governor of Hong Kong in the colonial era. It is now open to public and managed by the Government. There are beautiful large open space with pagodas, winding paths, green lawns interspersed wih park benches and classic Victorian garden fittings like wrought iron railings. Public restrooms and a light refreshment stall are available. Unwind under the sun or take a short hike from the Peak Tram, picinicers and families would love this place. It would be an unforgettable and incredibly rewarding hike considering the ease of the journey. What's more, if you are lucky enough like us, a family of wild pigs were moving around in the Victoria Peak Garden. As early as the 19th century, the Peak attracted prominent European residents because of its panoramic view over the city and its temperate climate compared to the sub-tropical climate in the rest of Hong Kong. The sixth Governor of Hong Kong, Sir Richard MacDonnell had a summer residence built on the Peak circa 1868. Those that built houses named them whimsically, such as The Eyrie, and the Austin Arms. These original residents reached their homes by sedan chairs, which were carried up and down the steep slope of Victoria Peak. This limited development of the Peak until the opening of the Peak Tram funicular in 1888. Today it is a major tourist attraction offering views of Central, Victoria Harbour, Lamma Island and the surrounding islands.

Here you can see the city from a bird's eye view. This is the most famous peak, so it's better to go on a weekday rather than a weekend. There are enough people. It is also better to go at 5 o'clock and be there before sunset, then you can take photos both during the day and at night when the lights appear. Don't go there on a foggy or rainy day, then you can't see anything. The wind is quite strong at the top, so take a jacket with you. From this peak you can see the skyscrapers of the city, the sea, ships. This is a paid place, but there is a free one nearby, but we did not find it. #urbanexplorer#summervacation#awesomepic

Be ready to lose 1000 calories in this hike. There’s nothing particularly special about this route but it’s rather therapeutic because of how many trees there are and comforting to know that you’re near the city too. The most beautiful part of the trek was the peak. When you see all the other peaks that are around and how it blends with the city so seamlessly. Big birds flying around and the wind in your hair.
