Compared to Wuyuan, I love this ancient village that made the National Geographic list even more
"A lifetime of dreams, no dream to reach Huizhou"
This spring, I finally visited Anhui, a place I've longed for, and checked in at this ancient village that made the National Geographic list. It's less crowded, scenically beautiful, and you can see vast fields of rapeseed flowers, making up for not seeing them last year.
❣️: Xidi Ancient Village
📍: Xidi Village, Xidi Town, Yi County, Huangshan City, Anhui Province
💰: 94 RMB per person (half price with a student ID)
🚗: Self-driving, navigate to Xidi Ancient Village, there is an open-air parking lot outside the scenic area (you can also take the Hongcun scenic area commuter bus from Huangshan North Station, two stops to Xidi, which takes about 2 hours)
Xidi Ancient Village was founded during the Huangyou era of the Northern Song Dynasty, developed in the middle of the Jingtai era of the Ming Dynasty, and flourished in the early Qing Dynasty. It is a traditional Chinese village with bluestone paths, white walls and black tiles, horse head walls, and wood carvings, stone carvings, brick carvings that can be seen everywhere in the village, as well as rapeseed flower fields. Strolling through the ancient village is like wandering into a rural landscape painting.
Xidi Ancient Village is more rustic compared to Wuyuan in Jiangxi, with less commercial atmosphere and more homely feel, and fewer tourists. Many alleys in the ancient village are basically deserted, very quiet, giving a serene Jiangnan vibe. Spending half a day here can make one feel much more relaxed. It even rained a little when I was there, but it didn't affect the scenery at all; on the contrary, Xidi Ancient Village in the rain is even more charming.
Travel Tip:
Spring has frequent showers, but they are mostly brief, so it's advisable to bring an umbrella for sunshade or rain protection.
The village has many rapeseed flowers, and they are all photogenic, but be aware of mosquitoes and consider bringing mosquito repellent.
The village is not large, so there's no need to deliberately look for photo spots; just wander around, and you might stumble upon a surprise at the next corner.
The village is some distance from Huangshan North Station, so if you are taking the high-speed train, you can directly take the scenic area commuter bus from Huangshan North Station, and stay in the village at night.
✅ Food Recommendation:
Stinky tofu (smells bad but tastes good, 15 RMB per serving in the scenic area)
🔥 Nearby Attractions:
Hongcun
Nanping Ancient Village
(Note: Both are accessible by public bus, but it takes a long time to get there, so self-driving is more convenient)
The scenic spot is not very big, the natural scenery is very good, the play time is recommended 2-3 hours, there is a direct bus at the Xinnanmen Bus Station in Huangshan City, the scenic spot is also very close to Hongcun, and there are also direct trains, the overall feeling is good
There are many individual tourists in Xidi, there are many Aboriginal houses, the commercial atmosphere is not so strong 🌸 The street view along the stream is the most beautiful. Occasionally, I see villagers washing clothes by the stream. It is good to have a life atmosphere. If you have time, stay for one night. In the evening, the hustle and bustle fades, and feel the slow life in the mountains. ✨
The village is not big, and there are more tourists than Hongcun. There are dozens of officials here. It is suitable for taking children to see it. It is very meaningful to listen to the explanation. The fare is a bit expensive. Who calls people a world heritage level?
Xidi in the rain is really beautiful, not as many people as Hongcun
As an ancient village at the foot of Huangshan Mountain with a large scale and well-preserved, Xidi is definitely worth a visit. Small bridges and flowing water, crisscrossing the moors, windmills are leisurely and smoky. The leisurely and natural pastoral scenery makes people feel like they are born. The most amazing is the night light show and music fountain, which makes this place a fairyland on earth, with deep memories and lingering memories.
Very convenient, no need to queue up to buy tickets. The building is antique and beautiful, very suitable for leisure to walk slowly. The light rain during the Qingming Festival, it stops at the moment, walking in the alley with an umbrella, there is a feeling of crossing, as if time is reversed
Xidi Ancient Village is really a place not to be missed in southern Anhui! I have also been like you because of its reputation, worried that there are many tourists and dare not go to ......, but the truth is really not like this! And listen to me: the commercialization of Xidi Scenic Area is not very serious, except for the main road that will gather many tourists, Xidi has many alleys, many exquisite literary shops, there is no one inside! ! (I went to the May 1st Golden Week) So everyone really don't follow the flow of people, you can choose one or two favorite stores, sit down and slowly feel the simplicity and elegance of this ancient village in southern Fujian~
The town that has not been commercialized, the villagers live leisurely, the river flows through the house, clear, and flowing. The villagers can wash in front of their own homes. The village halls and archways tell the ancient and heavy Huizhou history. At night, they sit on the slate by the lake and hold their lover's hand to see the sound. Music fountain, water screen movie, very pleasant
