Reviews From Real Travelers
We stayed in the Suite which has a double bed and a single bed, the bathroom is huge with a spa bath and shower, there is a small walk in closet for hanging clothes, the bed is comfortable, the Suite is on the second floor above the busy street but the noise doesn't affect us and we notice the noise level dies down near midnight, never affected our sleep. Staff is relaxing and friendly, the whole place is an old house with wide stairs and high ceilings, May be grand house in the old days, you can open the big windows to get refresh air if you like. The breakfast room is very dull, food very bland, no ambience, don't eat there and there are a lot of eateries outside. Good location to walk to everywhere, we walked to the Atelier de Cezanne in around 30 minutes, around 10 minutes walk to Gare Aix-en-Provence, around 15 minutes walk to the bus station to catch coach to Gare Aix-en-Provence TGV. Will stay here again.

Will start by saying we are American and quite well traveled. Been to France several times since the late 80s. We found Hotel de France excellent from all standpoints. Its location is just fantastic in the heart of the old town on the main pedestrian street with lots of open seating restaurants and cafes. The room was very clean, the bathroom just one of the best of we had in many years of travel. Staff was friendly and efficient. Our room faced the street and it is the type of rooms we'd suggest for this hotel. A/C worked fine. We did not take their breakfast as we made alternative arrangements. Not a cheap hotel but offering real good value for money. Definitely recommended.

Reviews From Real Travelers
We recently spent four nights here and i can't rave enough! We made reservations primarily based on reviews we read here and we thought the hotel was even better. We were traveling as a family with our teenage daughter and booked the junior suite which was perfect. A large room by European standards and it was perfect. We had a fold out twin bed and we could move around the room with it open. The location was great - close enough to everything but not overrun by street noise and busy crowds. We walked to dinner every night and one restaurant was better than the next. We spend one day in Aix-en-Provence and did day trips the other days. There was so much to see and visit in the area but more about the hotel. The front desk staff were so nice and so helpful. Mostly younger but so attentive and helpful making reservations for us, changing tickets to a site we booked when our daughter wasn't feeling well and offering great suggestions. The breakfast was also a big hit. I would recommend getting it included. There is a beautiful outdoor garden to eat in. Plentiful food and great variety from bacon and eggs to a continental breakfast of pastries and fruit. Lastly, we booked the parking spot which was a big plus. It was a short walk from the lobby and it was great to not have to worry when we returned from our adventures about where to park. Can't recommend enough. We look forward to returning.

Important tip number 1- Book your parking in advance. They have a small lot close to the hotel but it fills up so please make sure to book your parking. We did and it was super convenient. This is a wonderful hotel and each and every member of their staff makes you feel comfortable. They also offer good restaurant recommendations. We stayed their for 3 nights and everything was perfect. The room was large with lots of closet space. This is the place to be if you are visiting Aix. The location is great and it is very close to the big fountain.

The Golden Tulip chain of hotels renovated this venue a couple of months ago, and created a very efficient, modern and comfortable hotel, very suitable for business and en-route stays. It's located next to the autoroute from Aix-en-Provence to Lyon. Downtown Aix is about a 10 mins. drive. The beds (as in all Golden Tulip hotels) are amongst the most comfortable we've ever slept in! Bathroom modern and efficient. The staff consist of mostly young, enthusiastic people with a modern attitude to service. Definitely a hotel that differs itself positively from the standard en-route French hotel-style! The restaurant should be upgraded somewhat. The menu is limited and as downtown is a bit out, guests should be able to have a bit more choice in the menu.

Really enjoyed my short stay at the hotel. The room was nice and modern with a very comfy bed (one of the best!) Staff we’re friendly and helpful at all times. The restaurant had a great breakfast and also served a very nice lunch. Overall I had a great stay and would definitely return

The best part of staying at Hotel Paul is the courteous staff. They were so professional and actively sought to make my stay for comfortable. They provided a good breakfast with hot coffee. The room was clean and I felt right at home. Also, the hotel is very close to Old Town area of Aix, a short walk to the Cathedral, the open market, and numerous restaurants.

Staffs are very friendly , very helpful and super services mind. Room not too big but comfy for solo traveler. I m super impressed about everyday room make up. Garden was so good and give relaxing mood. Breakfast is ver reasonable price and restaurant is open during lunch time , food was good with reasonable price.

This is a beautiful hotel. They are undergoing a major construction project which takes away from the expected experience. Once the construction is done then this is going to return to being a luxury property. However, right now it is not. I have been at hotels where the construction was hardly noticeable. This construction is very noticeable, which is too bad but true. Staff is excellent.

Is this the worst hotel I’ve stayed at? No. Was it good? Also no. Let me start with the positives. The property is gorgeously landscaped. You feel like you’re in a private oasis. The pool is very nice, but during peak summer hours the chairs are scarce. The breakfast buffet was fine. Restaurant staff were friendly enough. And on to the bad. I can’t believe this is a 5-star hotel. It’s overpriced and the rooms feel dated. The front desk employees were the least friendly we encountered during our 2+ week excursion in France. One evening we requested in advance that a taxi be called to take us into town. The gentleman at the desk said no problem. When we came back down to the lobby an hour later, a different woman was at the desk and said she had no record of our reservation and instead of offering to immediately call a taxi, sort of argued with us and continued to insist no such reservation existed. We were given the odd 2-story room…the bedroom was upstairs and the bathroom was down a narrow and steep flight of stairs. Overall it was annoying having to trek bath and forth. The room was also unbearably hot despite the ACs being on. We kept the window’s curtains closed during the day, but this didn’t seem to help. After a day of sightseeing, we came back to our room to find housekeeping had opened the curtain and turned off both AC units. It was absolutely miserable. The bed was uncomfortable, lumpy in areas. On the final night, we finally asked for a fan which they did provide. We had quite the unsettling experience when our hotel door was unlocked and 2 hotel employees appeared inside our door at nearly 11pm. I was dead asleep with earplugs in when they turned on the lights, we kind of just stared at each other and they finally closed the door. Completely bizarre. Finally, the location is subpar. While it’s only a 15-20 walk to the center of Aix, you really miss out on the charm of the town. Bottom line, I would never stay here again.

Aix-en-Provence|5.01km from city center
My wife and I recently visited Provence for three nights, and stayed at Chateau de la Gaude because we had read great things about this relatively new hotel, and it seemed to offer a lovely, quintessentially French setting. This boutique hotel did fit what we were looking for in many ways, with its impeccably restored historic buildings that are fully updated and modern on the inside. However, we were disappointed with the service, which was simply not at the level of a true five-star hotel. Pre-Arrival Experience: Prior to our stay, I contacted the hotel by email on several occasions to help plan our stay. I asked for help in booking dinners and planning transfers, including from the airport on our arrival, and then to our next hotel on the Cote d’Azur at the end of our stay. I thought the transfer costs, while not cheap, were actually fair given what other hotels on our trip were charging for the same services. As an example, the airport transfer is 110€ each way, and other hotels were charging almost double that amount for similar distances between hotel and airport. The communication prior to arrival was great. Sarah in particular went out of her way to respond promptly to each of my inquiries, and I felt really confident that everything was well taken care of prior to arrival. I think this gave me a false sense of how service would be once we were there. Arrival Experience: We arrived at M****ille Airport on a morning flight, just before 10:00 am. The driver arranged by the hotel, Eric, was waiting for us with our name on a sign just outside of baggage claim, and he was just incredibly nice and welcoming. He took us out to a van and had us quickly on our way. He was also our driver to our next destination at the end of the trip, and I was so glad that the hotel had booked him on both ends of the trip. He was a great driver and just did a perfect job. The hotel’s website specifies that airport transfers will be in a Tesla Model X, and this was not that, but instead was a standard Mercedes van. We didn’t have a problem with it really, and like I said, we thought the driver was great. However, it could be disappointing to think you’re being picked up in a Tesla and not have that. The drive from M****ille Airport to the hotel was easy – just under 30 minutes at a time of day with minimal traffic. When we pulled into the property, I was a little surprised that none of the staff were around to greet us. Since we were arriving in a transfer booked by the hotel, it would have been easy to coordinate with the driver to be ready to welcome us. When I walked into the small lobby/reception area, the staff just seemed surprised to have an arriving guest. The staff member who checked us in did seem well-meaning though. She was helpful, and apologized profusely for the fact that our room was not yet ready, even though it was well before standard check-in time. She told us they would expedite room cleaning so we could have the room by noon, which w

Probably the worst room I've stayed in since a trip to Omsk USSR in 1992. Look, I feel bad writing this because: 1/I really want to be positive and upbeat about Aix; 2/the hotel des augustins is very central and perfectly located; 3/staff were charming and delightful; 4/the room was cleaned to a very high standard. But look: our room just could not have been more dull and characterless if it tried. It had one large window that looked out onto an inner well with a giant boiler unit in constant operation. It therefore let little light into the room. To spell it out: My wife opened the curtain on first morning we were there and declared it was a beautifully sunny day in Aix. This was because she could just make out a tiny patch of blue sky at the top of the well. But I just couldn't believe her. From where I was sitting inside the room I assumed Aix must be profoundly overcast. The Room had no effective shower (just a shower head coming out of bath.) Decor miserable and brownish grey. Air conditioning unit was ancient. Toilet was France 1950s. Towels were thin and grim. But what really got me was that if we opened the hotel window at night (which in Sept you need to) the sound of the boiler unit was just deafening. On arrival in the room, of course, my wife and I scrambled to the phone, rang reception and begged for something better. But no they said, sorry: hotel was full. We paid £500 for three nights. Aix is not a cheap city and we found accommodation hard to find. But while Aix is a wonderful vibrant colourful place, it was all a bit too Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment in our room.

Pros: Friendly staff, comfortable bed, great shower, good breakfast, secure parking, short walk from many of the most important points of interest in town. Cons: Unsecured internet, no USB plugs in room. Suggestion: try and book a room overlooking the central courtyard/pool area. Probabaly quieter than those on the outside of the building facing roads.

4-night stay Upside: (1) Space - limited-service apartment concept. Separate bedroom, bathroom, toilet, kitchenette, living room & balcony (within dining table) (2) Location - nearby supermarket & gym (not affiliated with Adagio); walking distance to the old town (3) Laundry room - located near reception; takes credit card payments; but there's only 1 washer and 1 dryer, so plan ahead (4) Quiet - inward facing apartments don't get street noise and face a pleasant internal courtyard Downside: (1) Air-conditioning issue - apparently, there was an ongoing air-conditioning fault affecting some apartments, including the first apartment we were assigned at check-in. Also, apparently, guests were supposed to have been informed about this, but we weren't. None of the correspondence we received prior to check-in mentioned it, neither did anyone mention it at check-in. Initial response when we queried why the apartment wasn't getting cool was the offer of a standing fan. This was completely unacceptable given the high summer temperatures (>30C) in a west-facing (afternoon sun) apartment. It would have been too uncomfortable to sleep, even with a standing fan. Not to mention the lack of transparency. After further enquiries, including regarding repair timing (several days!), suddenly another apartment, with functioning air-conditioning, became available. As Adagio is part of a major international hotel brand, issue could've been better handled by offering affected guests, whether in advance or at check-in, the option of (a) transfer to a similar-class property (in-network or otherwise) at no cost; (b) full refund; or (c) fully-transparent ”informed” acceptance of apartment with faulty air-conditioning.
