民宿離地鐵有一點點的距離。但還算近。從Museo 過去是上坡。拉行李會有點累。民宿裡面很舒適。Host也很親切。老先生不會英文。民宿附近環境就比較接地氣一些。早餐沒有蛋。但糕點非常好吃。很喜歡。房間很舒適，有個小冰箱。但也有老公寓的問題，水壓不足和熱水來的比較慢。要注意民宿7點關門。晚到就進不來了。另外就是wifi有點差。然後手機訊號也差。整體來說還是滿意的。重點：附近有一家小雜貨店。一瓶二升的水賣我1歐元。同樣的水之後在超市買，只要0.3歐。但民宿附近好像沒有大超市。 The location is a bit of distance from Museo station, especially if u carry luggage’s. It is uphill from the station. The B&B inside is very comfortable, so is the room. The breakfast does not have eggs, but the pastries are delicious. Many different varieties. The wifi somehow is slow and weak. The cell phone signal is weak as well. Overall, I have a good stay in this B&B

This was the worst five-star hotel I've ever stayed in. * When I checked in, they told me they'd send my suitcase, which I'd left at the entrance, up to my room later. But it never came, so I had to go get it myself. * My room was directly above the ground floor bar, and the thumping bass until 1 AM was absolutely terrible. * The front desk staff and the waiters at the breakfast restaurant were unfriendly. * The path from the entrance to the room was also terrible; it was a really long walk to get to my room. The location isn't even that great, so I don't really recommend this hotel. I regretted not choosing Shangri-La instead, and I'd recommend that one over this.

One highlight for me was the great view from the hotel. It really adds to the overall vibe and makes it feel special, even when you’re just stepping out to take a moment. I’d highly recommend booking a room with a balcony. As a mature solo traveller, that private outdoor space made a big difference—especially in a city that can be hot and busy. Even when the day is energetic, the balcony offers that easy, tranquil respite you need to recharge. And the rooftop infinity pool? Absolutely wonderful—great views, a fantastic atmosphere, and a calm break from the city buzz. I also need to make special mention to Upendra. The entire reception/concierge service was brilliant, but Upendra’s attention to detail truly stood out. He supported me with my eSIM and helped with my transport needs, and I genuinely felt valued and cared for—like I was a beloved auntie. It’s exactly what I appreciate from young, enthusiastic staff. Finally, I have to mention the beach club. It was a great experience—and thanks to the life guard, I even got to enjoy a “tethered” swim in the sea. (And yes—at almost 6 feet tall, tethering this Viking shield Maiden really isn’t as fun as it sounds 😄😂) Thank you again, Upendra—and thank you to the Marino Beach Colombo Hotel team.

Let me start with a few downsides: for a five-star hotel, there was no liquid hand soap, only bar soap. The toiletries were also very basic, small plastic bottles. We had to specifically ask for bathrobes and the low-quality disposable toothbrushes. The soundproofing was terrible; every time someone knocked on the opposite door, I felt like they were knocking on ours. The good points are: we were given two bottles of cinnamon drink upon arrival, the pool is beautiful, and the gym is decent. Apparently, haircuts are free, though I didn't try it, and there's a sauna too. We paid an average of over 600, and the taxes were quite high, so the value for money wasn't great in comparison. Oh, and the service was quite slow; we had to wait 10-20 minutes even for toothbrushes.

The 20-meter saltwater pool, right on the Indian Ocean, is simply fantastic for relaxing when the sea is rough. As I mentioned, the rooms are styled from the 1960s-70s, and you even get the charming creak of the floors and stairs. The hotel team clearly puts a lot of effort into maintaining the property against the forces of time and the ocean's weather. The dining experience for breakfast, lunch, and dinner is a story in itself. You can explore not just local cuisine, but dishes from across South Asia. The hotel is close to the sea, but buildings block the view, so you can't really see it. It's very close to the mini-train along the coast, and there are supermarkets and malls nearby, which is quite convenient. I arrived two hours early, and they allowed me to check in ahead of time. While I waited, they even offered me a glass of juice. Surprisingly, they didn't charge me the extra $3+ that I was supposed to pay on-site (I reminded the staff, but after checking, they told me it wasn't necessary). I booked a two-meal package, both buffets. The dinner selection seemed less extensive than breakfast, perhaps because fewer people booked it. A bit of a mix-up happened because I wasn't told the dining times, so I went for dinner before 7 PM. The restaurant was completely empty. Later, I saw on a screen that dinner apparently starts at 7 PM, but the staff member just let me in without explanation – which honestly gave me a very good feeling about their service. The room was spacious, and the type I booked surprisingly had two beds pushed together to form a super-king size. The soundproofing with the next room was pretty good; the people next door were playing music from check-in until after 10 PM, but I could only hear a faint sound once the street quieted down. That's acceptable. Sometimes the street noise was quite noticeable, but my tolerance for ambient street noise is higher than my tolerance for noise from neighboring rooms. The pool is on the top floor, and so is the restaurant. As an introvert, I'm not a big fan of this design. Overall, the stay was quite comfortable and offered excellent value for money.

The rooftop at Granbell is a standout. The infinity pool is a great place to watch the sunset from. Get there early as it does get busy. Pool bar also well laid out. The rooms facing the ocean are worth it. It feels like you’re on top of the ocean. High ceilings majestic the rooms feel large. Not a smart TV with only local stations. I’m on holidays so I didn’t mind. The staff are friendly and super helpful. The breakfast is large offering all types of international breakfast options. The only criticism would be the fruit was not the best. Considering you’re in the tropics, I’d expect better. Location is great. Close to Galle green, pharmacy and supermarket.

The hotel authorities failed to keep the commitment made at the time of booking. Staying and sleeping in these small beds was extremely difficult and uncomfortable for us. This kind of poor service and irresponsibility is completely unacceptable from a reputable hotel. In terms of customer service and maintaining commitments, this has been a thoroughly disappointing experience. I have no intention of ever staying at this hotel again in the future.

The grand oriental hotel did not live up to its name. Sure, this would have been grand in the 18 or 1900’s, but its glory days are way past that - this hotel badly needs a major renovation and updated interior design. There are many things and items in this hotel that must never be reused again - they must be thrown away, never to see daylight again! Examples of such are: the ultra worn out sofa that have seen better bums, the discoloured sheets, the wooden furnishings chipping off. Jose rizal might have stayed here fashionably in the past, but the current interiors indeed look like they stayed the same from the 1800s. Alas, there is also an insect problem or infestation that the management needs to take care of. Cleanliness was an issue. To give credit to the staff, they were professional, warm, and friendly - embodying true Sri Lankan hospitality.

The hotel facilities are great, but the atmosphere was a bit tense. Overall, the hotel itself is good; the rooms and service are all up to par. However, this experience felt a bit strange. We arrived in the middle of the night, and as soon as we entered the hotel, there were two layers of security checks: first, military personnel with sniffer dogs, and then the hotel's own security. Honestly, this kind of setup made me feel a bit tense and unable to relax. I was looking forward to the sea view when I woke up, but the weather wasn't great that day; neither the sky nor the sea were very blue. The advantage of the large floor-to-ceiling windows wasn't really utilized, which was a bit disappointing. After leaving the hotel, the street outside was full of tuk-tuks, emitting a strong diesel smell. It instantly pulled me from the vacation vibe back to reality. 😑

Upon arrival, very late at night, after a long trip. There were no towels in the room. Too exhausted to rectify, we just went to sleep without a shower. The hotel has an off smell about it, a bit like wet carpet. The cleanliness is questionable. Some mould. It seems it is not thoroughly cleaned. Frequently. Our room was not attended to, so we didn't receive fresh water. If you need to get work done while at the hotel don't book here. The WiFi is intermittent and would only work on my phone, not laptop. Therefore it's not suitable for any online workers. The toiletries were less than those advertised. Body lotion, shampoo and body wash are all that are provided. There is an ironing board...but no iron. Why? The hairdryer is one of those models you must continually hold down the button for it to work. It would work for only around 5 minutes and then would shut off and then had to wait 5 minutes for it to cool down to use again
