Yoga-themed hotel, a vegetarian restaurant, recommends his crispy food that tastes like oil residue. The massage is not expensive. The most surprising thing is that you can see the black-faced langur family in his house! They have their presence in the morning, middle and evening, especially harmonious. The only regret is that when we went, we happened to meet their pool under repair and renovation, and the child lost the entertainment project.

Have stayed here on two visits to Colombo. The old mansion has good service, because it arrived early, the customer service lady also helped to apply for early check-in. This time the room has a very large terrace. It is not too hot this season.

I had a fantastic stay at the Marino Beach Colombo Hotel, and I’d happily recommend it to anyone visiting Colombo. The energy of the hotel matches the city in the best way—there’s a lively, enjoyable atmosphere that makes the whole experience feel fun and memorable. One highlight for me was the great view from the hotel. It really adds to the overall vibe and makes it feel special, even when you’re just stepping out to take a moment. I’d highly recommend booking a room with a balcony. As a mature solo traveller, that private outdoor space made a big difference—especially in a city that can be hot and busy. Even when the day is energetic, the balcony offers that easy, tranquil respite you need to recharge. And the rooftop infinity pool? Absolutely wonderful—great views, a fantastic atmosphere, and a calm break from the city buzz. I also need to make special mention to Upendra. The entire reception/concierge service was brilliant, but Upendra’s attention to detail truly stood out. He supported me with my eSIM and helped with my transport needs, and I genuinely felt valued and cared for—like I was a beloved auntie. It’s exactly what I appreciate from young, enthusiastic staff. Finally, I have to mention the beach club. It was a great experience—and thanks to the life guard, I even got to enjoy a “tethered” swim in the sea. (And yes—at almost 6 feet tall, tethering this Viking shield Maiden really isn’t as fun as it sounds 😄😂) Thank you again, Upendra—and thank you to the Marino Beach Colombo Hotel team.

Let me start with a few downsides: for a five-star hotel, there was no liquid hand soap, only bar soap. The toiletries were also very basic, small plastic bottles. We had to specifically ask for bathrobes and the low-quality disposable toothbrushes. The soundproofing was terrible; every time someone knocked on the opposite door, I felt like they were knocking on ours. The good points are: we were given two bottles of cinnamon drink upon arrival, the pool is beautiful, and the gym is decent. Apparently, haircuts are free, though I didn't try it, and there's a sauna too. We paid an average of over 600, and the taxes were quite high, so the value for money wasn't great in comparison. Oh, and the service was quite slow; we had to wait 10-20 minutes even for toothbrushes.

Kingsbury hotel is in a prime location closer to the beach activities. Some rooms are with sea view. Shopping mall is nearby that offers variety of shops and services. Restaurants provide wide selection of food options with local and international cuisines. The rooms are carpeted which emits old odour. The room furniture needs modernising. We experienced issues with booking. They couldn’t find our booking and gave us a room in a lower floor and the furnitures were old with smelly carpet. On my complaint, we were upgraded to a suite room in a higher floor which was classy and the view was excellent. Don’t know I can afford to stay in a suite. The staffs were helpful. I didn’t have a chance to use all amenities but I noticed there were many options. I will stay again if I am given a room in a higher floor or if I can afford a suite room.

The hotel is close to the sea, but buildings block the view, so you can't really see it. It's very close to the mini-train along the coast, and there are supermarkets and malls nearby, which is quite convenient. I arrived two hours early, and they allowed me to check in ahead of time. While I waited, they even offered me a glass of juice. Surprisingly, they didn't charge me the extra $3+ that I was supposed to pay on-site (I reminded the staff, but after checking, they told me it wasn't necessary). I booked a two-meal package, both buffets. The dinner selection seemed less extensive than breakfast, perhaps because fewer people booked it. A bit of a mix-up happened because I wasn't told the dining times, so I went for dinner before 7 PM. The restaurant was completely empty. Later, I saw on a screen that dinner apparently starts at 7 PM, but the staff member just let me in without explanation – which honestly gave me a very good feeling about their service. The room was spacious, and the type I booked surprisingly had two beds pushed together to form a super-king size. The soundproofing with the next room was pretty good; the people next door were playing music from check-in until after 10 PM, but I could only hear a faint sound once the street quieted down. That's acceptable. Sometimes the street noise was quite noticeable, but my tolerance for ambient street noise is higher than my tolerance for noise from neighboring rooms. The pool is on the top floor, and so is the restaurant. As an introvert, I'm not a big fan of this design. Overall, the stay was quite comfortable and offered excellent value for money.

The 20-meter saltwater pool, right on the Indian Ocean, is simply fantastic for relaxing when the sea is rough. As I mentioned, the rooms are styled from the 1960s-70s, and you even get the charming creak of the floors and stairs. The hotel team clearly puts a lot of effort into maintaining the property against the forces of time and the ocean's weather. The dining experience for breakfast, lunch, and dinner is a story in itself. You can explore not just local cuisine, but dishes from across South Asia. The chefs and restaurant staff really strive to make your stay here an enriching culinary journey into local culture and traditions. If it's your first time in Sri Lanka, I highly recommend this hotel for your initial introduction to the country. Despite the cost, it offers great value, especially considering its convenient location near Colombo's main attractions.

We arrived in the middle of the night, and as soon as we entered the hotel, there were two layers of security checks: first, military personnel with sniffer dogs, and then the hotel's own security. Honestly, this kind of setup made me feel a bit tense and unable to relax. I was looking forward to the sea view when I woke up, but the weather wasn't great that day; neither the sky nor the sea were very blue. The advantage of the large floor-to-ceiling windows wasn't really utilized, which was a bit disappointing. After leaving the hotel, the street outside was full of tuk-tuks, emitting a strong diesel smell. It instantly pulled me from the vacation vibe back to reality. 😑

Great location, close to a lot of restaurants, cafes, bars, and One Galle Face Mall. The hotel is well kept albeit old. The pool is great. Beautiful and cozy lobby and cafe. The greatest of all is the staff. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Taj Samudra is the perfect home away from home whenever in Colombo. Will definitely stay here again.
