Traveling to Kobe with my parents, choosing Portopia Hotel was definitely the right decision! First off, they have a shuttle bus that makes getting to and from Sannomiya super convenient. Secondly, the hotel exudes an old-school luxury, with thoughtful design evident everywhere. The extra bed was incredibly comfortable, and the restaurant offers amazing views. My only regret is that we had to leave the rooftop observation deck quickly due to strong winds.

The sea view room offers an unbeatable view, with the Ferris wheel and Kobe Port Tower all visible. The room is spacious and very clean, with a balcony where you can watch both sunrise and sunset. The hotel's breakfast is highly recommended, with a wide variety of Japanese and American options, including freshly made mini-burgers – definitely give them a try!

Due to a canceled flight from Osaka to Sapporo, Trip.com rebooked us for the next day, flying from Kobe, and we stayed at the Crown Plaza Hotel. It's an old, established 5-star hotel, over 30 years old. There are two daily shuttle buses to and from Osaka Kansai Airport, which is very convenient. It's right above Shin-Kobe Station, and a 20-minute walk to Sannomiya. The hotel breakfast was just okay, but the ambiance and service were excellent. Because our flight was canceled, I had to cancel a whiskey distillery tour scheduled for the next afternoon, and the hotel staff kindly helped me call the distillery to arrange that. The price was about a third of what it would cost domestically, making it fantastic value for money.

The hotel was very crowded during the three-day holiday, so I didn't particularly notice the hotel service. However, the shuttle bus was incredibly convenient! Just be sure to note that the return times and the times for the shuttle to Sannomiya are different. Although it wasn't a direct ocean view room, the scenery was still nice, and I even saw a rainbow~ The carpets had no strange odors, and the clean elevators were a big plus~ On another note, I wouldn't recommend staying here if you're planning on shopping a lot, it's quite far out.

The Oriental Hotel Kobe is a true gem in the heart of the city. The room was beautifully designed with a perfect blend of modern comfort and classic elegance. The view of the harbor was breathtaking, and the staff’s hospitality was beyond exceptional. Every detail—from the lobby scent to the breakfast presentation—was refined and thoughtful. It’s one of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed at in Japan.

The hotel's location is great, about an 8-minute walk from Sannomiya Station. There are many restaurants nearby, and Nishimura Coffee Shop is also close by. The hotel is very secure; you need to use your room card to access your floor. The room size is quite spacious, and the toiletries provided are comprehensive. The breakfast is excellent and diverse. They even have zongzi (sticky rice dumplings) and congee, highly recommended.

From Osaka Uehommachi, go directly to Uozaki (Google Maps says ”no transfer” means you get off and change to the next bus at the same platform), then transfer to the Rokko Express (which offers a wonderful view and a unique experience). Get off at Island Center Station three stops later, and the hotel is right at the East Exit of the overpass. Bus No. 23 is located on the first floor of the hotel, reaching Kobe Mita in the city center in about 20 minutes. The stop is right in front of the Hankyu Department Store. There are also buses to Shin-Kobe, but they run less frequently. The bus to Kobe Airport is also on the first floor. Reservations can be made at the front desk, and there's a self-service ticket machine at the entrance. The earliest bus leaves at 6:23 AM, and the trip takes just over an hour. There's a FamilyMart convenience store next to the hotel. We booked a terrace room, which had a large outdoor terrace. The hotel's Hama Onsen is open until midnight and features several large and small pools, including an outdoor area. It's a great place to soak after strolling through the streets.

This is a very established international hotel chain, located about 700 meters walk from Sannomiya Station. Despite being in a bustling commercial area near the station, it's incredibly quiet at night, ensuring a peaceful sleep. It's also very close to attractions like Kitano Ijinkan and Ikuta Shrine, both within walking distance. The room was very spacious, easily accommodating two open 28-inch suitcases with plenty of room to spare. The bed was comfortable, and the complimentary access to the 'san-wanna' (spa/sauna) was a highlight. I would definitely stay here again on my next visit to Kobe.

Let's start with the location. It's actually a bit of a walk from Sannomiya subway station, about 10 minutes on foot. This isn't a problem if you don't have heavy luggage, but if you're pushing a cart full of bags, it can be a bit strenuous. Luckily, you just walk straight along the Yamanote Line, cross a large intersection (via the overpass), and you're there. It's relatively easy to find. As for cleanliness, it's very clean and tidy. It's a quick-service hotel under Sheraton, and everything is quite well-thought-out. Regarding facilities, the hotel's amenities are sufficient. Although bottled water isn't provided, there's a water dispenser with both hot and cold water. There's also a microwave and washing machine on the first floor. For service, check-in and check-out are very quick. If you're staying for multiple nights, daily housekeeping is offered. Necessities like toothbrushes, toothpaste, facial cream, and facial cleanser can be self-served. If breakfast is included, it's at the Matsuya next door, which is convenient.

This single room was booked for a friend, and they were very satisfied. For praises and suggestions about the hotel, please refer to my previous review. The hotel is conveniently located within walking distance to attractions like Meriken Park, Kobe Port, Chinatown, Kyu-kyoryuchi (Old Foreign Settlement), Kitano Ijinkan-gai (Foreigner's Street), and the Sannomiya shopping street. You can also visit KOHYO Life Supermarket (see photo 4) which has many delicious items. The supermarket is located at the east exit of Sannomiya Station; you can spot its sign halfway up the tall building from a distance.

This is a former luxury hotel. The room equipment is relatively old. The room size is quite large in Japan. There are not many restaurants nearby. There is a Daiso Hall and a supermarket on the first floor. They all seem to have organic products. It is very comfortable to live here. It is not recommended to stay here when traveling to Japan for the first time because it is far away from the city and attractions. Almost every room can see the sea!

I chose this hotel because I had a conference at the convention centre not knowing I have limited choice of getting something to eat (looking for halal option). Despite the lacking, I was able to survive for 3 days as I had to commute the Portliner to get something to eat. The location was quite a distance towards the portliner station therefore you have to walk a bit with your luggage if you are coming using public transport. The hotel surrounding is quiet. This is my first time staying at hotel in Japan, most of the time in airbnb. Towels were changed daily. Did not choose the breakfast. Service was acceptable.

The husband fell ill on the second night, but he was saved by asking me to bring breakfast to the room. This hotel was amazing. Great location (15 minute walk from the high speed train station), fantastic view (whole harbor and major buildings in the area), and great service. The proprietor gave us great travel tips to make the most of our short stay in Kobe, and even wrote out the Japanese address we needed to catch our flight the next day. The hotel room is literally an apartment, complete with a full kitchen, bathroom, living room and TV, as well as a balcony with a great view. Recommended for a night or better yet a lengthy stay. The proprietor is so accommodating (New York native) and is friendly and easy to communicate with!

It was absolutely awesome. We really needed this kind of rest after two busy weeks in Japan. We were so happy to relax body and soul. The room was luxurious and spacious; we chose a traditional one. This was our first hot spring experience, so it's hard to compare, but we loved it. All the hot spring rooms are strictly private, which is why we chose this ryokan. We have very large tattoos, and there are no problems with that. The kaiseki dinner is a real ritual and a show that lasts two hours of clear pleasure, everything was incredibly delicious, beautiful, and nutritious. Breakfast was also excellent. I recommend arriving in Arima village in the morning, rather than staying in Kobe or Osaka, to have time to explore it. It's small but charming, with that perfect anime vibe.

The indoor hot spring, sauna, and bath facilities are absolutely wonderful! If you love soaking in hot springs and enjoying a sauna, you definitely shouldn't miss this. Soaking multiple times a day is pure bliss! The staff's service attitude is great, and the hygiene and environment are also very good. Although the room size isn't large, it's really clean and tidy. I've stayed at Candeo Hotels several times across Japan before. Candeo Hotels always have excellent locations. The Candeo Kobe this time was also in a great spot, making it convenient to get anywhere in Kobe. What I love most about Candeo Hotels is that they all have rooftop onsens for bathing. Basically, you can do all your showering and bathing upstairs, so the bathroom in the room is largely unnecessary. The room wasn't huge, but it was already above the average size for Japan. I highly recommend this one in Kobe.

The room was slightly different from the pictures, but it didn't affect our stay. The surroundings were truly beautiful, especially the colorful autumn mountain scenery right next to the hotel. The facilities were a bit old but still clean and hygienic. The older staff members were incredibly helpful; when we requested water delivery around 6 AM, it was brought to our room immediately. However, the younger staff seemed to lack a bit. We had luggage and told the front desk that we'd wait in the lobby for about ten minutes before taking the hotel's shuttle to the Hankyu bus station. We saw the shuttle arrive and leave twice, and we didn't have time to go out and stop it. It would have been great if a doorman could have held the car for us. This caused a delay of about 20 minutes. Luckily, we had plenty of time before our scheduled bus departure, otherwise, we would have been very anxious.

This is a recommended hotel for family trips. While making the entire building feel the history, the exterior and interior are very luxurious, and the site is also luxuriously used. Especially, it can be seen that it was a luxury hotel, such as the use of natural stones in the building and the wedding hall. I feel old due to aging, but the building is well maintained and clean. The hot springs have a strong spring quality and contain a lot of iron, so you can't see the bottom of the bathtub, and the ingredients are solidified outside the bathtub. It was an impressive experience for hot spring lovers. The customer service was very polite and we were happy to respond despite the late check-in. Breakfast was a rich lineup of Japanese and Western styles, and there were many kinds of drinks, and there were handmade dishes such as scrambled eggs and simmered pumpkins, and I was very satisfied with the number of items. Overall, I think it is a hotel with a high cost performance and more value than the price. It is also recommended as a base for accommodation from Kobe during the time when hotels in urban areas are soaring because it can be accessed in about an hour from the Osaka Expo venue.

I have to express my sincere gratitude to Ms Hatsumi from the hotel. Thanks to her help, I had a wonderful trip to Rokkōsan. She is definitely a polite, professional, and of course pretty lady. Her communication skills are good especially that she speaks fluent English which would be of great help for someone like me who don't speak any japanese. Although the original local tour was full of bookings , she helped me reserve a taxi and solve my ease of communicating with local taxi drivers. The view and environment is splendid with a great hotel service teams. I would highly recommend to someone who wants to experience a unique accommodation experience. Though the drawbacks , as you might know already , is 1) no private bathroom 2) not sound-proof building materials , but it is understandable given that the hotel is with ancient history

The service of the staff is superb and way beyond expectation.  I noticed that the yugata for my wife is men’s size and my slipper is women’s size. I hope they can be more prepared on the suitable sizes to be available for guest. The only thing I don't really like is the toilet room inside the Japanese style room. The location is great! It's super convenient to get here from Kansai Airport by airport bus, about a 10-minute walk after getting off. You can find the bus timetable in the last picture. There are also plenty of dining options nearby. The front desk offers a wide variety of complimentary toiletries, tea bags, and drip coffee – make good use of them! What was a bit strange was the check-in process. After completing it manually at the front desk, I still had to register again at the self-service machine… The room isn't huge, but it's perfectly adequate, which is typical for hotels in Japan. The elevators seemed to take a while, so patience is a virtue here. Also, the housekeeping staff forgot to empty the trash after cleaning.
