Traveling to Kobe with my parents, choosing Portopia Hotel was definitely the right decision! First off, they have a shuttle bus that makes getting to and from Sannomiya super convenient. Secondly, the hotel exudes an old-school luxury, with thoughtful design evident everywhere. The extra bed was incredibly comfortable, and the restaurant offers amazing views. My only regret is that we had to leave the rooftop observation deck quickly due to strong winds.From$48

Kobe Harbor Kobe|1.3km from city center
The balcony view was truly amazing, but the hotel itself is quite old. The room we were given had no charging outlets by the bed, so we had to move the desk to charge our devices under the vanity and behind the TV. The air conditioning vent made a strange 'ticking' noise; it wasn't too bad during the day, but at night, when everything else was quiet, it became really noticeable.
On the plus side, the lady at the front desk spoke excellent English. However, the shuttle service to and from Sannomiya wasn't very convenient, and the breakfast was just mediocre.
I definitely won't be staying here again on my next visit to Kobe.From$77

Although this is an older five-star hotel, the lobby is spacious and features the traditional five-star amenities, which are well-maintained and appear very clean. The hotel is conveniently located right next to the Shinkansen line. It was raining on the day we arrived, but there's a covered walkway directly from the Shinkansen to the hotel, so we didn't get wet, which was very handy. Check-in was quick, and the staff were friendly. They even informed us about ongoing exterior renovations, mentioning that workers might be passing by at certain times. It turned out to be work on an annex, quite far from our room, but I appreciated the heads-up. We booked a twin-bedded city view room, which was very large and even had a capsule coffee machine, though I couldn't use it as I don't drink coffee. The staff cleaned our room thoroughly every day. For breakfast, you can go to the buffet restaurant on the 4th floor, which offers a good variety of Japanese and Western dishes. The staff there were also very attentive, reminding guests around 10:00 AM that the last seating was at 10:30 AM. Alternatively, you can opt for a set menu on the 5th floor. This is served in a restaurant where the staff wear kimonos and are equally friendly. We had three breakfasts in total and chose the set menu one day; it was simple but tasty. Right next to the hotel is the Herb Garden, which is easily accessible by cable car. A short walk down from there, there's a glass house resembling an indoor rainforest. We enjoyed afternoon tea in a café inside while listening to a piano and violin performance. The hotel is just one subway stop from Sannomiya. It's also easy to walk to the Kitano-cho (Ijinkan Street) area and then to Sannomiya. My only minor complaint was that our room was quite close to the elevator; I would have preferred a room further away. The hotel also offers a direct bus service to Kansai Airport, but it only runs twice a day, at 11:00 AM and 2:30 PM. Since we missed the 11:00 AM bus, we took the subway one stop to the Sannomiya Bus Terminal, which is diagonally opposite Hankyu, where buses run every 20 minutes – also quite convenient.From$35

This time, I was assigned a room on the 29th floor with a mountain view, which I think offers the most beautiful scenery! What truly impresses you about Hotel Okura isn't just the hardware (though it's excellent), but the service! That kind of 'proactive' service awareness means they've already anticipated your needs and processes before you even speak. Someone greets you at the entrance, guides you with your luggage, and the flow is crystal clear. Check-in is hassle-free, with a rhythm like a well-oiled machine, yet it never feels cold. From the moment you walk in, you can clearly feel their dedication to making guests feel at home during the often-frazzling 'arrival to room' period. The room still exudes the confidence of an old-school five-star hotel, with a comfortable sense of space and meticulous details. Especially that feeling of 'settling in comfortably' is something trendy influencer hotels can't match, even though the Okura has become quite popular itself 😝. But it still holds up to repeated stays and contemplation. The bedding, soundproofing, and cleanliness are top-tier, the kind where you can immediately relax once you're back in the room. What's even more impressive is that the Okura's excellence isn't just about one specific point, but about 'never dropping the ball.' The staff don't overdo it, but they're always there when you need them, and they never disturb you when you don't. The phrase 'subtle yet pervasive' perfectly describes this hotel. Kobe Okura doesn't make you think 'wow, it's so new and luxurious,' but rather, it shows you what the standard of a five-star hotel truly is. My only small regret is that the dessert shop is under renovation, and the previous Okura-owned supermarket has been replaced by a FamilyMart.From$92

The “sea view” was very disappointing and honestly not what I expected at all when booking this room.
What made the experience worse was the pricing issue. After my booking became non-refundable, the hotel price dropped by around 30%, which was shocking. I’ve never had this happen before. The explanation that the lower price was a different non-refundable rate doesn’t fully justify such a big drop. On top of that, trip.com customer service only gave me an update after I followed up four times, which was frustrating.
Check-in was also a poor experience. We arrived around 9pm with a child, and there was no staff at the ground floor to help with luggage at all, even though the reception is on the 17th floor. After check-in, there was again no assistance with luggage, which was very inconvenient when travelling with a child. Despite my booking clearly stating one adult and one child, there were no kids’ amenities provided, not even a child’s toothbrush.From$161

The room was larger than typical Japanese hotel rooms. The cleanliness was pretty average, but there was a large makeup mirror. The bathroom was quite small. The style had a certain charm. The view from the window was excellent, with a direct sight of Ikuta Shrine. Personally, I prefer Hotel Monterey; their rooms are bigger and their bathrooms are also larger! Plus, the cleanliness is much better there.From$40

From Osaka Uehommachi, go directly to Uozaki (Google Maps says ”no transfer” means you get off and change to the next bus at the same platform), then transfer to the Rokko Express (which offers a wonderful view and a unique experience). Get off at Island Center Station three stops later, and the hotel is right at the East Exit of the overpass. Bus No. 23 is located on the first floor of the hotel, reaching Kobe Mita in the city center in about 20 minutes. The stop is right in front of the Hankyu Department Store. There are also buses to Shin-Kobe, but they run less frequently. The bus to Kobe Airport is also on the first floor. Reservations can be made at the front desk, and there's a self-service ticket machine at the entrance. The earliest bus leaves at 6:23 AM, and the trip takes just over an hour.
There's a FamilyMart convenience store next to the hotel. We booked a terrace room, which had a large outdoor terrace. The hotel's Hama Onsen is open until midnight and features several large and small pools, including an outdoor area. It's a great place to soak after strolling through the streets.From$97

A family of three, we were extremely happy with this hotel during our trip to Japan 🏨. The public bath was great, and not too crowded. But the absolute highlight was breakfast – the service was top-notch and the selection was amazing. We got to try all sorts of local specialties, and the bread was incredibly delicious. You could tell they put a lot of effort into making breakfast special. The room was spacious enough to open two suitcases, which was a bonus, and it was quiet with good soundproofing. Plus, it's really close to Ikuta Shrine ⛩️.From$49

About 15 mins’ walk from Shin Kobe JR. 10 mins’ walk to Sanomiya. Location was ok. The room was not too small. Clean environment, coffee machine and amenities available at lobby.
Had problems with room WiFi the first night. Front desk didn’t have solution upon my phone inquiry. After reporting to CTrip, hours later, a Chinese speaking staff came to my door to help me. And problem solved. The next day, hotel sent a note asking for my feedback on the issue. Which was a professional and nice gesture.
Breakfast was a chain fast food connected to the lobby. Front desk staff can communicate in English. Overall, good experience with this price.
离新神户JR站步行约二十分钟;三宫约十分钟,附近貌似没有地铁站;经济型酒店,房间不算很小,有浴缸;
设施一般,该有的都有;一楼有洗浴用品,调味包大小的一次性牙膏很方便;早晨就是大堂旁边的松屋,要另外买;
前台员工英语可以交流;第一天接待我的眼镜大叔,动作有一点慢,慢慢跟他说还是可以的。整体体验还不错,毕竟价格不贵。From$44

This was my second time staying here, and just like before, there were no amenities for children. Luckily, I brought a set from the previous hotel. The location and room size are pretty good here, and it's self-check-in. You can just ask the front desk for bottled water daily, and they even gave us face masks. The hotel breakfast is quite ordinary; you could book a room without breakfast since there are so many good food options nearby. If we weren't traveling with a child, we wouldn't have booked breakfast. After 8 PM, there's free ice cream on the first floor, and the chocolate flavor is really delicious!From$53

I had a wonderful **3-night stay** at Seaside Hotel Maiko Villa Kobe. The location is beautiful, with relaxing seaside views and a stunning look at the Akashi Kaikyō Bridge. The rooms were clean, spacious, and very comfortable. The staff were friendly and professional, and the breakfast was delicious with a good variety of options. Overall, it was a peaceful and enjoyable stay, and I would gladly return and recommend this hotel to others.From$53

This is a former luxury hotel. The room equipment is relatively old. The room size is quite large in Japan. There are not many restaurants nearby. There is a Daiso Hall and a supermarket on the first floor. They all seem to have organic products. It is very comfortable to live here. It is not recommended to stay here when traveling to Japan for the first time because it is far away from the city and attractions. Almost every room can see the sea!From$37

I chose this hotel because I had a conference at the convention centre not knowing I have limited choice of getting something to eat (looking for halal option). Despite the lacking, I was able to survive for 3 days as I had to commute the Portliner to get something to eat. The location was quite a distance towards the portliner station therefore you have to walk a bit with your luggage if you are coming using public transport. The hotel surrounding is quiet. This is my first time staying at hotel in Japan, most of the time in airbnb. Towels were changed daily. Did not choose the breakfast. Service was acceptable.From$40

The husband fell ill on the second night, but he was saved by asking me to bring breakfast to the room. When my husband was resting in the room, I was out so that I wouldn't disturb him, but I used it because there was a sofa and reading space in the hotel. It was very good. This hotel was amazing. Great location (15 minute walk from the high speed train station), fantastic view (whole harbor and major buildings in the area), and great service. The proprietor gave us great travel tips to make the most of our short stay in Kobe, and even wrote out the Japanese address we needed to catch our flight the next day. The hotel room is literally an apartment, complete with a full kitchen, bathroom, living room and TV, as well as a balcony with a great view. Recommended for a night or better yet a lengthy stay. The proprietor is so accommodating (New York native) and is friendly and easy to communicate with!From$133

The private onsen experience was excellent. The front desk staff spoke Chinese and provided great service. The hotel also offers a shuttle bus to the bus station, which was very convenient. In the lobby, there were various drinks and ice cream available, perfect for a refreshing treat after a hot spring bath. My only minor complaint is that the outdoor onsen didn't seem as clean as the indoor one, which was very refreshing.From$339

Came to run the Kobe Marathon, and this place was incredibly convenient. It's less than 1 km walk from the starting point, and the race even passes right by the hotel! The hotel's hot spring was very comfortable, and they offered free popsicles, coffee, and Yakult – super happy about that! There are tons of restaurants downstairs, and it's walking distance to Daimaru department store. I'll definitely stay here again for the next Kobe Marathon!From$44

I've stayed at Candeo Hotels several times across Japan before.
Candeo Hotels always have excellent locations.
The Candeo Kobe this time was also in a great spot, making it convenient to get anywhere in Kobe.
What I love most about Candeo Hotels is that they all have rooftop onsens for bathing.
Basically, you can do all your showering and bathing upstairs, so the bathroom in the room is largely unnecessary.
The room wasn't huge, but it was already above the average size for Japan.
I highly recommend this one in Kobe.From$79

The room was spacious and comfortable, providing a serene atmosphere for relaxation. The onsen facilities, along with the provided Japanese bath suits and slippers, added a delightful touch to the experience.
The breakfast buffet featured a variety of healthy Japanese options, which I found both satisfying and nourishing. Additionally, the view of Kobe Tower from my room was a charming highlight.
The hotel's design reflects a refined minimalistic luxury, creating an elegant and calming environment. Overall, I highly recommend this hotel for anyone seeking a blend of comfort and traditional Japanese hospitality.From$302

Arima Onsen Hotspring Kobe|12.48km from city center
The room was slightly different from the pictures, but it didn't affect our stay. The surroundings were truly beautiful, especially the colorful autumn mountain scenery right next to the hotel. The facilities were a bit old but still clean and hygienic. The older staff members were incredibly helpful; when we requested water delivery around 6 AM, it was brought to our room immediately. However, the younger staff seemed to lack a bit. We had luggage and told the front desk that we'd wait in the lobby for about ten minutes before taking the hotel's shuttle to the Hankyu bus station. We saw the shuttle arrive and leave twice, and we didn't have time to go out and stop it. It would have been great if a doorman could have held the car for us. This caused a delay of about 20 minutes. Luckily, we had plenty of time before our scheduled bus departure, otherwise, we would have been very anxious.From$245

First off, this location is a bit out of the way, if you intend to stay close to the downtown...you have to take the ”Portliner” a few stops.
No issue for me, but did not realize this when I booked.
I chose it because of the onsen / sauna, and I was very satisfied: this was the best sauna / cold tub I had in Japan (so far).
Was hotter (and colder) than anything else. The actual hot-tub was good too, but I focus on sauna > cold tub cycles more than anything.
Rooms are new and look good, if not a bit small. As expected.
Stay for a night if you are on the fence...use the onsen...have a coffee-milk afterwards. You'll feel great.

This is a recommended hotel for family trips.
While making the entire building feel the history, the exterior and interior are very luxurious, and the site is also luxuriously used. Especially, it can be seen that it was a luxury hotel, such as the use of natural stones in the building and the wedding hall. I feel old due to aging, but the building is well maintained and clean.
The hot springs have a strong spring quality and contain a lot of iron, so you can't see the bottom of the bathtub, and the ingredients are solidified outside the bathtub. It was an impressive experience for hot spring lovers.
The customer service was very polite and we were happy to respond despite the late check-in. Breakfast was a rich lineup of Japanese and Western styles, and there were many kinds of drinks, and there were handmade dishes such as scrambled eggs and simmered pumpkins, and I was very satisfied with the number of items.
Overall, I think it is a hotel with a high cost performance and more value than the price. It is also recommended as a base for accommodation from Kobe during the time when hotels in urban areas are soaring because it can be accessed in about an hour from the Osaka Expo venue.From$35

Gosho-bo is conveniently located right next to an orange souvenir shop, a common stop on the way from Kyoto to Arima. Upon check-in, guests are asked to change into slippers for use throughout the ryokan. The luggage service is excellent; they bring your bags to your room upon arrival and down to the lobby after check-out, saving you the effort of carrying them up or down stairs. Both breakfast and dinner were generous and delicious. The restaurant boasts a charmingly retro atmosphere, with a vintage feel that is impeccably maintained. The public Kinsen (Golden Spring) bath was wonderful. It's a semi-mixed bath, and my skin felt incredibly smooth after soaking. However, a family member who was with me developed mild allergic reactions like peeling skin and red spots.From$331

Arima Onsen Hotspring Kobe|12.79km from city center
I booked this hotel because it was touted as one of Asia's top 100 onsen hotels for 2025. However, apart from the hot springs being decent, every other aspect of the service was a massive letdown. To begin with, both the kaiseki dinner and the breakfast the following day were truly subpar. The room was dreadfully small. Furthermore, despite inquiring about kimonos (as there were none in the room) with both the front desk manager and a server, who assured us they would send them up shortly and even took our sizes, not a single kimono materialized by the time we checked out the next day. We paid over 7,000 RMB for a family tatami room for four, including breakfast and dinner. At this price point, anyone staying here is simply getting ripped off. There will absolutely not be a second visit, and I also sensed a certain unfriendliness towards Chinese guests.From$196

The service of the staff is superb and way beyond expectation.
I noticed that the yugata for my wife is men’s size and my slipper is women’s size. I hope they can be more prepared on the suitable sizes to be available for guest.
The only thing I don't really like is the toilet room inside the Japanese style room. The wall paper has lots of stain spot, smelly and it is not quite comfortable to stay even for a short while to do your thing when you have a need.SOLD OUT
