This is a 4-star hotel, very close to Kyoto Station, and they offer a free shuttle bus to and from the station. The shuttle picks up on the left side when you exit the *Karasuma Central Exit* (条口) of Kyoto Station. There isn't much to explore around the hotel itself, and very few restaurants. If you plan on taking the train or eating out, it's best to head to Kyoto Station. Kyoto Station is large and beautiful, a tourist attraction in itself, and even has a big Isetan department store!
The breakfast restaurant on the 14th floor is a revolving restaurant with panoramic views of Kyoto. However, the Western set breakfast is quite mediocre. The breakfast restaurant on the first floor offers both Japanese and Western options, but the value for money isn't great. In terms of transportation, besides taking the train from Kyoto Station, you can also catch a bus nearby. It's a bit far from the livelier areas of Sanjo and Shijo, making it suitable for guests who prefer a quiet stay and want to be close to Kyoto Station.From$73

Located on the 2nd floor, accessible by elevator from the central square exit, this hotel is incredibly convenient. It exudes the charm of a classic, established hotel. For breakfast, there's Ogawa and Yakiniku Hiro right across the street. We also found the best value for money meal near Komero Park – picture 4 shows a meal that was only 5000+ yen! Kinkaku-ji and Kiyomizu-dera are definitely worth visiting, and the Biwako Valley ski resort was stunning. The aquarium is good too. Kyoto is a city you can easily spend 3 days exploring.From$145

The biggest advantage of Hotel Gajoen Tokyo is definitely its location. Beyond its prime spot in the city center, there's a direct walkway from the hotel's third floor straight to Takashimaya. You can walk along the green passage into the mall, turn a corner, and be at Din Tai Fung – it's incredibly convenient. This stay, I specifically booked a corner room to experience the lounge. The room was spacious, and the bathroom had a great four-piece layout. The large windows let in plenty of light, and catching a glimpse of the beautiful Higashiyama scenery in the distance was a pleasant surprise. The lounge is also on the third floor, so after browsing Takashimaya, it was lovely to just tap my card, go in, and relax with a drink.
The breakfast selection wasn't huge, but most items were high quality. I ate there for three days and didn't get bored. The ham, salmon, and homemade yogurt sauce were all excellent, and the latte was delicious too.
Furthermore, the cleanliness of this popular hotel exceeded my expectations. Daily housekeeping was impeccable, and they didn't compromise on standards under the guise of being eco-friendly, which I really appreciated. Huge thanks to the staff.From$310

Highly Recommended Stay in Kyoto
I would like to strongly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Kyoto. The staff demonstrate exceptional professionalism and hospitality.
In particular, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Miss Yuki, who assisted us with our check-in and kindly introduced many wonderful sightseeing spots and activities in Kyoto, as well as to Miss Tsai, a ********* staff member who supported us during check-out with great warmth and care. Their thoughtful service truly reflects the welcoming spirit of Kyoto and the hotel’s commitment to excellence.
I am genuinely impressed by the quality of the team members who bring guests happiness and satisfaction through their dedication. They truly deserve recognition and applause for their outstanding service.
Our two-night stay was far too short, and we are already looking forward to returning in the near future.From$351

The location is fantastic! It's right across the street from Kyoto Station Hachijo Exit. There's a shopping mall next door with drugstores, bag shops, and shoe stores, and a 7-Eleven downstairs. For breakfast, we tried a charming little place run by an elderly couple downstairs one day and McDonald's the next. There are tons of great food options around, and Kyoto Station itself offers a complete experience for dining and shopping. Plus, there's an Aeon supermarket just a ten-minute walk from the hotel. The most convenient part is the bus stop right outside the hotel that goes directly to Kansai Airport. I'll definitely choose this place again on my next trip to Kyoto!From$46

Kawaramachi Kyoto|0.43km from city center
We really enjoyed staying at this hotel. Check-in and check-out were super quick, and the room was just the right size for two carry-on suitcases. Every day they give you a complimentary bottle of water, which is a nice touch. Super nice amenities! The shower was great, and I loved the lavender shampoo and conditioner.
The only downside was the limited space beside the sink for cosmetics. The bed was very comfortable, though I wasn’t a big fan of the pillow since it didn’t have much shape (my husband actually liked it). The extra pillow they provided was a bit too flat for me.From$74

What a pleasant surprise this hotel was! The attention to detail is truly exceptional, and the service is incredibly warm and welcoming. The hotel's cleanliness is impeccable. They also have a rooftop open-air bar where you can soak your feet while enjoying the scenery and a drink – it's absolutely wonderful, especially in the dead of winter. Plus, there's an outdoor hot spring, which is very clean and offers great views. They provide complimentary coffee, matcha, hot chocolate, sparkling drinks, and cold beverages, all available for unlimited consumption every day. I highly recommend the hot chocolate with ice cubes; it's so rich and delicious.
The hotel's location is superb. Takashimaya is right outside, and there are tons of great restaurants nearby. It's also very close to all the major attractions.
Aside from the room being a bit small, everything else was absolutely perfect. I'll definitely choose to stay here again whenever I visit Kyoto.From$222

The room was very clean, and the large public bath was super relaxing. It's actually not too far to walk from JR Kyoto Station. It's especially convenient if you're taking the bus to and from Kansai Airport, as it's only a 3-4 minute walk to the hotel. Plus, the hotel is right next to bus and subway stations near Kujo, making it incredibly easy to get around Kyoto. The front desk even sells Kyoto subway and bus day passes, so you can just grab one and hop on public transport right away.From$56

I've stayed at a few Keihan Group hotels, and they've all been great, but this Kyoto Station South hotel is particularly excellent. The Chinese-speaking front desk staff provided fantastic service during check-in, making me feel truly at home. I also got lucky this time; I arrived at 12 PM and was able to check in early. The daily breakfast is also incredible value for money; 1980 yen on its own isn't expensive at all, and it's an absolute steal when bundled with the room. The 11 AM check-out time is very reasonable, and the luggage storage facilities are excellent, making you feel very secure. However, the self-service lockers fill up quickly, so you often have to leave your bags with the staff. All the amenities are thoughtful and convenient. The only minor drawback is that the expensive hairdryer is too large, taking up space and being awkward to use in the small bathroom. In the afternoons, you can also enjoy complimentary coffee and drinks at the restaurant. The location is unbeatable; it's right across the street from Hachijo Exit, making shopping, dining, and public transport incredibly convenient. The bus to Kansai Airport is also nearby, which is much more comfortable than taking the train. I will definitely stay here again next time I visit Kyoto.From$86

More than 5 times to stayed in this hotel. Everything is perfect. It’s just 5-8 minutes walk from Kyoto JR station. The Onsen is perfect. You can enjoy Onsen overnight until next day morning, so if you come back late you can still enjoy the Onsen. Free ramen offered from 21:00-23:00, which is very delicious, and the hotel breakfast is Perfect too. There is Sashimi Bowl.
Room is clean as always and this time the view is very good we can see Kyoto Tower.

This is my third consecutive stay here, and I still think it's great! Every morning there are free pastries and tea available. Great hotel! Literally just beside the train station and tracks. My room faces the train station and tracks. You can see the people and train up close! 😁
So convenient! Malls everywhere with tons of food to eat. Easy to reach all the major attractions. Went to uji, otsu and yamashina. Great walking experience.
Recommend to stay in this very comfortable hotel! Room for 2 person is comfy enough. Though cannot open luggages. Ha.From$75

I am from Yangzhou, Jiangsu. Although Yangzhou is a garden city, there are many such style escape hotels in Jiangsu and Zhejiang, Hongxi Noya of Hoshino Group is definitely worth living. The overall health is very good, the facilities are well maintained and there is no musty smell. That is, all the windows can be wiped clean. This time I checked in in the evening. When I took a taxi, I saw the sunset of Lushan, which was a value-added item. The reception staff was very polite and welcoming. At night, the girl was invited to drive us to the hotel entrance. This road was too standard, almost standing on the mountain, and there was a feeling of adventure. When I checked out, I felt the ship of Hoshino. By the way, I recommend the dyeing workshop and Zhai Pavilion are diagonally opposite. If you like the scenery, it is worth seeing.SOLD OUT

FAQs about Kyoto Airport
What airport to fly into for Kyoto?
Osaka International Airport. The closest airport to Kyoto is Osaka International Airport (also known as Itami Airport), about 36 kilometres from the city.Which airport is nearest to Kyoto?
Osaka International Airport. The closest airport to Kyoto is Osaka International Airport (also called Itami Airport) which is around 36 km from Kyoto, and about 55 minutes away by bus. However, because Osaka International Airport only takes domestic flights, most international travelers find that Kansai International Airport is more convenient.Should I fly into Kyoto or Osaka?
It's generally better to fly into Osaka (Kansai International Airport - KIX) for convenience, as it's the main airport for the region, and Kyoto is just a short, easy 30-40 minute train ride away, offering cheaper hotels and better food in Osaka while keeping Kyoto's cultural sights accessible for day trips. Fly into Osaka if you prefer modern city vibes, nightlife, food, and budget options; choose Kyoto as your base if tradition, temples, and a serene (though often crowded) atmosphere are your priority, but be prepared for slightly less efficient transport within the city itself.
