Initially, we thought we would be selfish and not share our thoughts on Ashen’s Beach house because we wanted to keep it all for ourself, but that wouldn’t be fair for the owners! We had 10 wonderful days and nights there. We were looking for an authentic beachside house away from the main tourist area, and this was truly it. The location is outstanding. A beach 100 yards from the door with very few people There. Sujana and her son Ashen could not have been more kind or helpful. Sujana cooked for us most nights and every meal was delicious. My husband needed a dentist and her son accompanied us to make sure we were ok. They have two beautiful dogs, generally I’m afraid of dogs but these 2 were so gentle (but also great guard dogs) it added to the feeling of security. Our room was spacious and bed super comfortable. We also booked an overnight safari trip which they organised for us. They agreed a very reasonable price (many people offering tours) and the trip was excellent. Dev the driver they recommend was safe, kind and helpful, he also did our airport transfers. If you’re looking for a western style hotel experience then don’t bother, but If you want to experience real Sri Lankan hospitality then Ashen’s is 10/10. We can’t wait for more holiday time to return.

We booked this place via booking.com for 5 nights. We are a family of 3. The place is located on a main road approx a 10min tuk tuk ride away from Galle Fort. The villa is very well looked after and very clean. The facilities are in good working order. The rooms are good size, would prefer to be abit bigger, but with the amount of living room space and the garden looking into the sea, what more can I ask for. The breakfast is suppose to be basic continental, but I would say they had everyone I would have normally wanted. They served fresh local fruits with the breakfast that were delicious. The owner comes and checks up couple times in the day and offers help and advise. The house keeper is onsite 24/7 and is very nice and always looking to help. He organised tuk tuk rides for us with a local driver, who is a very good calm driver, with best prices, no need to haggle. Only downside to this place is that it's a little away from Galle Fort. But the place has many positives. Would I stay here again, definalty and would reccomend this place.

We were welcomed by Mr.Sushantha and family when we reached the property. Our driver coordinated directions with him, but the property is bang on the main road with private beach access. Stayed at their newly built two-bedroom villa for 3 nights and absolutely loved the place. The rooms and big enough with a double bed and a single bed. The kids enjoyed the lawn and the sea, beach, shells, crabs, snails and the coconuts. Mr.Sushantha & family were the primary caretakers with some additional staff but everyone always served with a smile. We chilled out in the veranda with the kids played in the shady lawn or the beach. It is with private beach access which is only frequented by the neighbouring villa guests. Mr.Sushantha took every step to ensure that our stay was comfortable and the kids enjoyed their games. We were served homemade yummy breakfast every day. Additionally, we had a small private cook area with gas and utensils which we used for making our tea or cooking some small dishes. There is also security at night so it is very safe. Drivers can also find places to stay nearby at very affordable additional costs. We would love to bring our extended family for a vacation and stay at this place again. Centrally located to landmarks. A nice supermarket is in walking distance. Several restaurants next door that not only serve good food but gives you a great experience having your food on the beach. They even served us dinner in our villa lawns and Mr.Sushantha was kind enough to arrange this. Overall the hospitality is amazing. Dream vacation place. Very impressive family-run place. Thank you Mr.Sushantha & family for making our second trip to Sri Lanka memorable.

We spent a week in this lovely and cozy Villa. It has only 2 floors and 4-5 rooms, so it is not a large and busy tourist center, very quiet and private I would say. Suits for couples. We had a large room with king size bed, a/c, private bathroom with a shower, laundry service, WiFi in the room and balcony with a garden/pool and an ocean view. The swimming pool is clean and good size, and because of the size of the villa, not many guests were using it. The breakfast was included and it was different every morning, such as European breakfast, traditional Sri Lankan breakfast etc. The breakfast always included fresh fruits, coffee/tea, milk, toasted bread and either eggs and sausage or something else on the side. Mr. Kanna took really good care of the guests and was very helpful and friendly. He always respect the customers wishes. We are extremely happy with the service and stay, especially because our first hotel was the worst experience in our traveling history, our agency relocated us from the previous stay to this one. I can say that we got lucky!!!

stayed in this amazing resort for 14 nights as a part of our mandatory quarantine process on 12th July 2020. Arrived at Amari around 5 pm. The check-in process was very professional and the safety precautions were outstanding. We have been offered a straight beachfront view room on the 8th floor. The room was fine and with balcony and we were not bored as most of the evenings the solo artist was playing music on the pool deck. (Divan ) and he plays the requests. The room was faultless, clean, clean towels, linen, comfortable with the best beds I have slept on. Amenities & tea coffee etc will be delivered to the room on one call without delay by the H/K crew and so friendly. Specially Mavinda very friendly & helpful. Chandana was so friendly and attention to detail always calls and checks our requirements and the status, defects of the room goes the extra mile & also awesome at his job. thanks, Chandana !! Special thanks to Army Medical officer Senarathna, so friendly and he treated us like a family member. And I was celebrating my birthday during this period, the chefs' team sent me an amazing surprise birthday cake to the room. Thank you Vithana- Pastry chef it was so tasty. -Thanks !! The food was exquisite, plentiful & tasty, sent to room 3 times a day and we never get bored as really good variety every day. Thanks to Sous chef Chandana for making and delivering such lovely & tasty food. most of the time we requested different meals (out of the regular menu ) but Chef Chandana make sure it's delivered to the room & follow up too. very positive & thanks once again Chef Chandana. Special Thanks to Executive chef Sampath & F&B Indika J :) :) for all F&B arrangments. Helpful reception team Thanks for the courtesy call every day - Senuri /Lakmali. The bar was closed it seems but we can order soft drinks thru room service & pay upon departure. We’d like to say a huge thank you to the manager ELSWORTH PERERA, for everything he did for us during our stay and his team. All in all, the stay at AMARI Galle is more than highly recommended for everyone. It was a wonderful time and we'd love to say a big thank you to the whole team for making this an amazing experience.

My fiancé and I booked a stay here for 4 out of 8 nights we were in Sri Lanka, but ended up staying an extra 2 as we didn’t want to leave! This is a real hidden gem of a hotel. The immediate location is remote- nestled amongst greenery next to the river, but you’re only a 10 minute tuk tuk ride from Galle, and 20 mins from Unawatuna. The hotel even has its own tuk tuk and you can book a ride whenever you like. There are only 5 rooms, and as such the service feels so personal. All the staff are amazing, Indeka the owner is so friendly and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble! The decor and attention to detail is really something to behold, a perfect combination between rustic and luxury. We particularly enjoyed the outdoor bathroom, and the air con in the room was super efficient! The food was incredible... Traditional Sri Lankan breakfast was delightful, and the dinners and lunch we had were outstanding (we are massive foodies so that was very important!!) I could literally go on forever about how amazing this place is! Thank you so much Indeka and co, we’ll definitely be back!!

We had a very comfortable and pleasant stay at Aragorn villa. The property, though not very luxurious, is very clean and green. A nice place to spend the night after day-long outing in the beautiful city of Galle. The hotelier was very welcoming and very well accommodated for all our needs.

A couple-run family hotel, very good Hot baths can be washed for a long time, and it’s hard to get in Lanka. The environment is very good, the small balcony is very warm The boss has tuktuk, can call him to pick up and drop off Only the location is a certain distance from the Galle Fort, but relatively close to the beach Very close to the life of local residents Suitable for friends who want to feel the local customs The breakfast made by the proprietress is also delicious. The boss is also super good. It’s going to rain outside. I called back and said to help me collect the clothes that were put on the outside. All of them helped me back, including I put it outside the small balcony, it was not wet, I was touched. When I left, I was sent to the bus station to send me to the bus and told me to come back.

We almost booked this hotel a few years back for a weekend with the kids. But the booking agent at Jetwing let us know that the property is not so child friendly with the elevated pathways, set up of the chalets, and the marshy land its build in. So we reluctantly moved on to another hotel. A couple of years later, last weekend, my wife & I decided to leave the kids behind (for the first time in 10 years) and find a time just for ourselves. This is where we chose to stay. It indeed is a unique location, with nicely built chalets, delicious food made fresh. Staff was very welcoming and friendly. As we spent only one night, we didn't get a chance to explore much, but the atmosphere was very pleasing.

Having lived in Sri Lanka for many years, I've stayed in most, if not all of the top hotels. This is the first time I've given any hotel top rating. We arrived on Tue 6th Oct intending to stay just two nights with an itinerary of other hotels lined up for the next 2 weeks. In the end, we extended our stay at the Lighthouses to 12 days and have just reluctantly checked out on Sunday 18th. When we arrived, we were a little apprehensive that COVID and lack of guests would translate to reduced amenities or poor service due to reduced staff. Someone left a book in the room which is a short and engaging biography of Herbert Cooray, the founder of Jetwing and after reading that, we discovered that the Jetwing ethos is never to lay off staff They didn't during the worst of the civil war, or as a result of past civil unrest, or after tourists fled in the wake of the Tsunami and later the terrible Easter bombings of 2019. Now again, COVID has reduced tourism in the country to literally zero. But Jetwing have kept all their staff employed. Every morning, both pools are cleaned, gardens are tended and everything is kept spick and span. just as it would have been in periods of full occupancy. I don't think we were treated any better than we would have been in a period of high occupancy, but the fact that everything ran like clockwork, apparently just for us, did make us feel rather like royalty. This is just a superb hotel. The larger of the two pools by the seaside ranks as one of the top 3 in the many we have visited in our long lives as expatriates. Maybe it's rivalled by Kitchwa Tembo in Kenya, where you can look down on giraffes and lions on the plains below. The pool at another Sri Lankan hotel, the Kandalama is fairly special too. But this one is right up there. It's not a cheap hotel and is of such a high standard that it couldn't be. But what is amazing is that the food and beverage are so affordable. A bottle of decent wine is just 2/3 of the cost of the cheapest wine available in (say) the Hill Club and hardly more than true clubs such as the Nuwara Eliya Golf Club, or the Colombo Motor Yacht Club, both of which we are members of. The standard of the food is just wonderful. At this point due to import restrictions, meats are limited to locally produced chicken, pork and seafood. We know from past experience that the buffet they lay on is superb, but as we were the only people there for the most of the time, we either ordered a la carte or had a chat with the Chef who was happy to produce things not on the standard or set menus. We tried him out with a request for Thai green curry and on the last night asked for Singapore chili crab. All was produced to a really high standard of excellence. During our stay, we viewed all three types of room. The Main Wing, the newer Spa Wing and even one of the suites - which was just out of this world. The Main Wing rooms are right next to the sea and we were lulled to sleep every night by the booming of

The Thambapanni Retreat is set in a beautiful lush tropical garden, with birds, monkeys and butterflies all around. Our room was beautifully decorated in a rustic style, with bold colours, a four poster bed and a cement floor inlaid with brass flowers and wooden beams, very unique! The staff here are extremely welcoming and friendly, nothing is too much trouble. True Srilankan hospitality! The restaurant in the retreat was a real surprise! The food prepared by Chef Muditha was without doubt the best we’ve had in the two weeks in Sri Lanka. We tried the prawn curry, crab curry and the grilled calamari and prawns, all served with dahl, banana flower curry, pumpkin curry and green bean curry. Absolutely delicious, all cooked with different spices, yet the flavours complemented each other perfectly. And the price was the same as most of the restaurants in the town. This will be our number one choice when we come back to Unawatuna!
