This appeared to be a lovely, plush and quiet boutique hotel and we never expected the horrendous experience that awaited us.. After a few tiring days in San Marino we drove to Riccione hoping to enjoy the remainder of our stay. The residents’ parking area was very limited and had to be booked in advance. Since we had not been aware of this inconvenience we had to pay and park in a public parking area a small distance away. So if you do not have reserved parking, remember to unload your luggage before you go to park your car! The hotel lobby, stairways and pool area are lovely but the rooms and toilet are very small and cramped. We did not like the location, ambience and food of the breakfast room. On our third and final night we had an awful experience... right from midnight when we went to bed until 9 a.m. next morning there were terrible loud noises from the room exactly above us. Furniture being moved, things being dragged across and dropped on the floor, loud voices, loud footsteps...! We called reception several times to complain but nothing was done at all! Around 6 a.m. my husband finally went downstairs and complained to the member of staff at the reception but his reply was incredible and shocking! He informed my husband that there was a German crew doing a photo shoot in that particular room... and since they were Germans there was nothing he could do to interfere! The noise continued even after this and around 8 a.m. my husband went down and spoke to another member of staff and informed him that we would not be paying for the night’s stay as we had not slept a wink and since this was not a photo studio but a hotel, the residents of the room upstairs should be responsible for paying the bill. No one apologised, no one had one kind word to say... they were only afraid of the Germans ! Later after breakfast we spoke to the female manager who insisted that we should pay the full bill and that would refund the last night back to us. I did not believe this story and in fact when we called they told us that the hotel should refund the money back to us. We went to speak to the manager and there was a huge argument and after a lot of shouting and people staring, she realised that we could not be conned and was forced to refund the last night immediately. She had hoped that we would not check with and had hoped to get away with making us pay for sleeping in that hotel... when sleeping was the last thing that had been possible! Beware of this hotel... it appears to be quiet and secluded but it is totally the opposite. You can hear the trains passing on the railway track opposite and it’s too far from the beach. It would be wiser to choose something on the seafront.

After spending three wonderful nights in Bologna, we took the train to Riccione for five nights at the Corallo. Easy journey, about 1 hour 20 minutes. 20 euros each return first class which I though was excellent. The hotel is a short (very expensive) taxi ride from hotel. 15 euros for three minute journey, but too hot to walk with cases. We had booked a standard room 246 and not sure if we had an upgrade because we had a whole extra sitting room area which was great. Lovely bed and nice big bathroom. Air con not the greatest but maybe just couldn’t cope with the heat. House keeping was superb with clean sheets every day, didn’t ask for this but again, guess it was the heat. It was much appreciated. Pool area is lovely and the pool temperature was perfect. There are a lot of children though so if you want somewhere very quiet away from kids, this is not the place for you during school holidays. The food was absolutely wonderful and we had to stop ourselves from over eating. Different themes on different nights, amazing sushi buffet, grand dessert buffet, roof top fish night (amazing) the list goes on. Lovely wine and very reasonable. Special mention to our wonderful waiter Petru, he was such a lovely chap and we looked forward to chatting with him every night. Breakfast excellent too and very relaxed. I loved the fresh berries, the huge lump of honey, pancakes, smoked salmon and really great coffee. We always swam before breakfast when the pool was quiet. I think we may have been only ones there not on full board and each day we had the pool to ourselves for two hours whilst everyone disappeared. Our package included two beds and shade on the beach every day and this was great as actually cooler there sometimes with the breeze. The sea was wonderful especially days when big waves which were a lot of fun. Right behind the hotel was a long street full of bars and restaurants that took you down to main shopping area which was huge. The whole place was absolutely spotless and full of families out walking, talking, shopping and having fun. Such a great atmosphere and we walked up and down here most nights stopping for a drink along the way. We never heard another English voice the whole time we were there which is very unusual but just added to the charm for us. This is how the Italians holiday and I certainly loved their style. I also pre booked a massage at a discounted rate and it was simply wonderful and on another day my husband and I spent three hours at the spa which we had to ourselves. Well worth it as a very nice spa especially at the end of the day to get out of the heat. We absolutely loved the Corallo and Riccione. We have been to a lot of places but have to say this may very well be my favourite beach resort. I will definitely be back when it’s a little cooler so can also explore the surrounding area.

Make sure you travel with mosquito spray as you do get a lot of bites. Perfect location to walk around Riccione and also right by the sea. Only took us 15 minutes to drive to the racetrack so perfect and the breakfast was great. Only thing breakfast could do with being served earlier on race day as we left before it opened.

In winter, the breakfast is relatively simple, but it is not bad enough. You can order your own coffee, cappuccino, latte, hot milk, etc., and you can eat a variety of croissants and cakes, as well as biscuits and toast. These basic breakfast foods, boiled eggs, and fruits are also very rich, basically satisfying the breakfast diet.
