|17.95km from city centerVisited Virginia Beach and chose this location quite honestly because they accepted our reward nights. It’s about 11 miles from Virginia Beach oceanfront. It’s located right at the exit so traveling to and from the beach was easy. This hotel is dated, but well maintained. Whoever is doing the property management for the property is doing an excellent job. Everything is freshly painted and clean. But again everything is dated. It would be a big plus if they could get rid of the popcorn ceilings and the rugs and install LVT instead (I wish all hotels would do this- it just feels cleaner). Our room had a fridge (which wasn’t really working) and a microwave. The gentleman from Colorado that checked us in upon arrival was very very friendly and welcoming. The hotel is not located in the best area, seems pretty industrial and it looked like a family had their vehicle broken into overnight. There were great places to eat though within 5-10 minutes of the property like YNot and SweetSpot.

|1.61km from city centerThe team at the front desk was very welcoming upon our arrival. Though obviously older, our room was nice and clean. The view was fabulous, as we had a full oceanfront view. Access to the beach was right outside the back door. The room has a refrigerator and microwave. Breakfast was decent and more than simple “continental style”. There were egg frittatas, home style breakfast potatoes, sausage patties and of course a make your own waffle station with lots of toppings, various breakfast pastries, cereal, yogurt, fruit cocktail, fresh fruit options and a few juice options as well. We were close to the pier and lots of shops, restaurants and bars. Currently, floors 6-10 are already renovated and they cost more; maybe worth it. It took some effort to get/keep our room as cool as we like it. Overall, I would stay here again.

|3.42km from city centerShower nozzle came off a couple times, NO hot water the majority of the time, put in room for a person with disabilities but not needed, tub had black and pink mold around it, no trashcan in bathroom, stand for suitcase ”gnawed and wobbled badly”, a/c and ventilation did not work - called maintenance and they never showed, dried blood on the comforter, coffee maker gross and looked rusty, RATS- one came down from 2nd story balcony while we were on the patio outside the restaurant pretty sure from someone's room, no lighting on a few floors, only 1 elevator worked out of three, we used stairs the whole time and even if we needed the cart would have to go out, cross between buildings (which the ceiling was coming down between), hot tub never available as I found out the last day the ”PH balance was too high” so they closed it, ordered food from the restaurant - appetizer bacon wrapped scallops - $20 for TWO and when it came out there was a long hair on it, needless to say my appetite was lost for the evening. Ice machine didn't work except the 8th floor until 4 nights later, tiles in the floor not glued down, found a couple of those not very friendly for disabled individuals if I had been in this situation. Staff so/so depending on the function. When I went to check out I brought up my concerns and the girl at the front desk asked if I had called maintenance, which I let her know I had in fact called and they never showed. Others were complaining of carpets in their room smelling of urine - they allow pets in the hotel. Honestly, I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone ever.

|18.93km from city centerWe needed a hotel close to the airport for a one night stay prior to going to OBX. We didn't have a car but used the hotel's shuttle service with no issues. Staff here was very friendly and very accommodating. Rooms were clean, beds comfortable and the bathroom was clean and nicely updated. My roommate did have a problem with a cold shower but we were up early so maybe she was one of the first to use it?? I had no issues shortly afterwards. Breakfast was your typical hotel breakfast, nothing special but it was fine and we were able to find things we liked. Overall a very good stay.

BUT my key would not work requiring MULTIPLE trips to get replacements (grade-2). So after I settled in, it was average, BUT it took my assertiveness to get there. I should not have had to see rust under ANY circumstances. Silence in the hotel business is considered complacency. Staff should report up & make mgmt look good. Mgmt should make condition reporting a normalcy so they CAN look good.

|1.56km from city centerMy daughters favorite hotel on the beach - and the extra amenities for families allows me to work from the hotel if necessary - while my munchkin still has fun.. she loves the kids club even at 10 y/o and the private mini movie theater because she can go ”by herself” since I am only a few feet away. The indoor lazy river pool is a huge hit - and clean and maintained. The outdoor pool is BEACHFRONT..almost in the sand its so well located.The few times we have stayed there the staff was always above and beyond helpful.
Downfalls - The A/C units could use an upgrade and the breakfast spot needs some decor upgrades but the food is REAL (not ”pretend scrambled eggs” ) and well prepared and service is good. I wouldn't consider it a ”Luxury” hotel and the seasonal prices are equal to the fancy competitors but I guess that depends on how you define luxury - my daughter would choose this hotel over the new Hilton without question.

Our last 3 visits have all been at this hotel. Location can’t be beat and the staff is very accommodating and pleasant. We visit several hotels and staffing doesn’t compare to the diamonds they have here. Looking forward to our next getaway and it will definitely be here.

|1.62km from city centerIt was a place to lay our heads for the evening and that is the best I can say, property was poorly maintained, the room was very old and quite dated, my daughter said “ this looks like a house from a scary movie” overall cleanliness was alright. The price was extremely high for what is offered and for being part of the choice hotel family I was extremely disappointed. As I told the front desk agent they can use a major makeover of the property overall to include the parking lot. Best part of the trip was the front desk agent Felicia was was very professional and accommodating if not for that it was a total bust honestly !!!!

And they don’t want my business?! or under new mgmt?!?Anyway I booked through their website and Thank God it was successful. This is our 4th visit here in the same place, Schooner Inn Virginia Beach… we love the area it’s quite and it’s near fishing spot (no need to pay unlike in the pier) But this visit was totally different since there was an event East Coast Surfing Championship and some Oceanfront Concert a lot of people around the area but it’s all good. My kids really had a blast after all this was a trip planned even before Covid hits, we waited for the borders to open. Now about the hotel… I would’ve given this hotel a 5 to 4 stars because of the disappointment about calling their front desk even my phone in our room doesn’t work, good thing I have roaming so I can call within the area. From 4 to 3 stars… kitchenette needs new utensils and some serious cleaning, vents, toilet seats and paints. I pretty sure the housekeeping people are doing the best they can and the one who’s in charge on our floor she’s very nice always asking if we need anything. Lastly… I don’t mind the smell of **** (I’m frm Canada thats normal) but within the elevator with kids around I mean c’mmon atleast have some air freshner. We’re still coming back for sure and I hope by then some stuff are updated and they’ll pick up their phones.

The ocean view room is a great place to watch the sunrise. From time to time, you can see fighter aircraft training or cruising at low altitude.

|1.93km from city centerLocated at the lower end of beach, it is convenient to the ocean beach, and restaurants. Pool looked inviting, but was geared to the younger crowd. Remodeled bathroom and tile, although it was incomplete in spots, on balcony.
Check- in is weird as done on an iPad with remote agent. This hotel also charged an “xtra” fee at check-in. Night agent is very rude- and pulling up to register is not convenient. Parking is across the street and not on property. Rooms are mostly partial ocean view .
We managed, but probably not stay here again.

|0.56km from city centerWhat a pity that in such a central location, there is little pleasure to be had from staying at this hotel. The receptionist was cold and unsmiling, with not a hint of welcome. The room had a decent bed, but with only a sheet and cover. There were two polyester blankets on a shelf and I had to unzip them and put both on the bed to get reasonably warm in the cold and windy May weather. The room heater/cooler is a metal box attached to the wall right next to one of the beds. Every time the thermostat turns it on or off the noise is enough to jolt you awake. I ended up wearing foam earplugs. There is no breakfast available in the hotel, and no microwaves in the rooms. Although arriving by car is pretty much the only option, parking is charged at $7 plus tax a night. After leaving here, I checked in at a hotel of similar standard and vintage at my next destination, Ocean City, and the contrast was striking: a super friendly receptionist, a full comforter on the bed, a restaurant with breakfast for purchase and free parking. There are dozens of other options along Virginia Beach: choose one of them instead of this place.

|1.13km from city centerThis was not what I expected at all. I needed 2 beds for 3 people. I booked a double studio. Please understand that these beds are very small. Full size maybe. AC unit was extremely loud. Had to turn it off to get some sleep but I’m sure the bed also contributed to my sleep issue. When I asked about changing rooms, it’s $50 for a room cleaning fee and $80 to upgrade a Queen bed with a Queen pullout sofa. Also, the building we are in has 1 adult pool. I have a child why would you place me in this building? The building next door has all the amenities, pools, fitness center, recreational activities. You have to walk outside to enter the other building. For the AC unit noise, they say they will send someone to check it out. Idk…

I figured probably a red drink though. Electric not hotels fault went out for hour or 2 second day. hotel is not on beach it's across street from other hotels. parking spots are tight. The living room and bedroom of the suite are separated for easy sea view and rest. You can sit in the living room and watch the sea, or you can go to the balcony to see the wider sea. It is worth mentioning that the balcony windows are very soundproof. Breakfast is also very good.
If the air conditioning sound is a little smaller, the wireless network effect is better, it is perfect.

Only suggestion for the hotel management is, please provide at-least 3 chairs; for a double queen bed suite, 2 chairs are not sufficient. The noises from the lobby and hall can be heard from the rooms which can disturb your sleep. The management should take care of this. There was no toothpaste in the bathroom. For tea, coffee etc, one have to ask at the front desk. Hotel does not provide any info on travel guide/sight-seeing. One have to plan ahead and get all the info about sight-seeing themselves.

Clearly all the issues mentioned did not meet me here. it is a nice hotel that is exterior corridor which does not allow pets. Staff is wonderful and caring in each instance that does not deserve what is published here on this site. Also management should be proud of what they are doing here in the most positive way. Rooms are clean and newly renovated. Lots of places to eat with 2 shopping malls within walking distance. Rest assured I will be back to check out the area on my next stay.

|0.53km from city centerThe hotel itself was CLEAN! From the lobby to the breakfast area to the lobby to our room, it was just clean. It was so refreshing to see the hotel so cared for. Our room was spotless, I always take wipes to clean hotel rooms we stay in, I will admit this is the first hotel I did not find dirt. The breakfast was different everyday of the week, each day there were ate least three hot choices, fresh waffles, and tons of regular fare like cereal, boiled eggs, yogurt etc. The staff was amazing. I did not talk to the front desk much, but the staff at breakfast and our room attendant were very nice. We ordered pizza one night and sat in the expanded lobby area, fun. And the pool was nice sized. I read in some of the reviews prior to leaving that the hotel was older. Maybe, but I saw nothing that was not nice, clean and in perfect shape. The location was right on the boardwalk beach, with a shower for our feet right outside the front door, great location. We will definatly stay here again.
