Everyone we met extended their stay here (one couple for up to 2 months!), including us from 2 days to a week because; the location is perfect, the rooms are clean, comfortable and affordable, the atmosphere is cosy, the people staying here great, and most importantly,- Howie is the nicest host and person we have met in 12 months travelling. He always offers you a wealth of knowledge alongside food and tea, he even took us on a road trip around Georgetown!! He is a true family man and if you stay here you are a part of the family! Highly recommend, deserves a 10* rating without a doubt. :)

On the plus side: - Great location in little India, right across the street from Kapitan restaurant which is open 24h and has great food for a decent price. Just a short walk away along Chulia street is Chinatown with street food stalls and the nightlife of Love Lane. - WiFi was very good On the minus side: - The room provides no sound isolation whatsoever from the heavily trafficked Chulia street, and to make matters worse, the nearby mosque likes to crank up the volume on the speakers during their calls to prayer. Make sure to bring ear plugs if you are planning to sleep. - The hostel did not provide toilet paper for the room, which was a first during all my travels. - The room rate was marketed as including breakfast, which it technically did, but it was a joke: it consisted of a glass of coffee and two slices of toast joined together by a razor thin layer of jam. Considering that the hostel is managed by an actual restaurant (where breakfast is also served) it's pretty obvious that this puny breakfast is only a way to game the system om booking sites. They could easily provide a decent breakfast instead. - The room was marketed as having a desk, but it did not have one, and the electric outlet was so far from the bed that there was no convenient way of using a plugged-in device. - The aircon was not adjustable. It was operated with just a button; on or off.

For sure it’s not easy find a place so lovely. The family carrying on this place is absolutely great, helpful and kind as much as is possible. Yea maybe the breakfast is not the best you can have, but it’s fine, you can have homemade jams and kaya with bread, make your porridge, free coffee all day long if you want, tea, fresh water... but Isn’t nice when you stay in a place and the owners are always smiling at you and disposable for eeeeverything you need? Even take you out for the night Chinese ghost festival, or how was it called. They are happy to have you here and you will be happy to stay. The dorm was very clean, with curtains for the very comfortable beds, where you could feel as you are in a small private room inside. Definitely highly recommended.

Booked here for New Year’s Eve and ended up staying four nights. There is literally zero vibe here so if you’re looking for a social place not the one. This wasn’t an issue for us though. The hostel is in an amazing local. Super close to love lane. Not a far walk from the ferry. Lots of street food around. Overall the stay was good. The breakfast goes until noon which is a big plus. It’s basic but really filling at the same time. The rooms were clean as well as the bathrooms. The sheets were a little too stained for me but I am picky that’s why I travel with a silk liner. The air con was great. The staff were quite helpful in helping us get around. The downsides: The wifi would cut out quite a bit. This happened a lot at night and was rather annoying. And the hostel is right across the street from a mosque. We were woken up every single morning at 5am and then again at 6am with the noise from the mosque. It was frustrating because after the 5am wake up it would be hard to fall back asleep but you could always count on the 6am to keep you up even longer. I’m sure if the room was a little further back from the street it wouldn’t have overly affected us. Just a warning that it is a little noisy here. We would stay again despite both of these negatives.

We stayed at You le Yuen this summer in early August. We were immediately impressed by the beauty of the hotel, by its old and authentic architecture: this hotel and the room have a special charm that you cannot find everywhere. Thank you to Mrs. Jane who came forward to us and who, concerned about the smooth running of our stay, arranged for us an express discovery of Penang with Mr. Lau (greetings to you both if you read the comment!); an à la carte discovery of the city, its monuments and its gastronomy, which we greatly appreciated. We hope to return soon! We stayed at You le Yuen this summer in early August. Just a perfect intro to Penang and Georgetown. A beautiful little place, halfway between an upscale hostel and a boutique hotel. It was my first visit to Penang, and initially I'd reserved at another, highly rated, Georgetown hotel, but my heart sank when I checked in, looked at the rows of identical rooms, talked to the front desk staff who had no enthusiasm for their World Heritage city and minimal knowledge of what to see, where to go. I immediately checked out! I checked TripAdvisor, and Carnarvon House was just a 15 minute walk away -- in a much more traditional part of town. What a contrast! It's in a quiet side street in the middle of traditional Georgetown, a small hotel with beautifully restored internal and external features. Greeted by Nicole, the super friendly, knowledgeable co-owner, I admired the internal patio garden, the welcoming guest coffee/common room, and the choice of rooms. The upscale hostel part? There are no ensuite bathrooms -- the traditional and original layout doesn't allow room for that. But there are easily adequate toilet-shower-sink cubicles. As a solo visitor, I much enjoyed meeting other guests -- young folks and couples from all parts of the world -- in the common room area. And Nicole was so helpful in advising about how to explore Penang -- and restaurant recommendations. A better concierge than in most upscale hotels! A perfect place for a perfect Penang visit.

· A very clean bed and breakfast, surrounded by quiet, this is a real hidden mansion, hidden in the shops along the road. · From the last name of Zhouqiao, 5 RM can be called, Grab, the address of the location store, do not write ”Magpie”, will default to the old shop Magpie B&B. · The boss is a Chinese Mandarin. The whole feeling is like a Taiwanese, but he is a native of Malayan. He is very polite and enthusiastic. There is a free map at the door. He introduces him. George Dock is very detailed and intimate and will help you mark it. Good punching points and sightseeing spots, the direction is good, let him teach you how to go, the neighborhood is 15 minutes to get to the neighborhood, not too far ~ lazy to walk a family Grab, are 5-8 MYR Things~ · Our room is on the first floor. The room is big, there is a small entrance, a big room, and a small garden with a patio. It is not wet. The air in the room is quite fresh. The bed is very large and clean. The disadvantage is that it is under the stairs. The room will be a bit noisy, but the guests in the store will not be too embarrassed, the sound is still acceptable~ In the end, the picture has no filters, the real scene picture ~

If you want to make shared bathroom pls make sure its clean because all people use the bathroom. The room was okay but you can hear people walking since its made from wood. Got few spider web on the ceiling and the room is quite small for the price. If you want to have a short stay maybe its okay but if you want to have long stay you might find other place that have private bathroom and spacious room to walk around. Its not 24hours receptionist bcs when got back around 2am there’s no one at the counter. Overall the place is okay but please replenish and refurbish furnitures to help customer have a good stay at your hotel TQ

Clean, comfortable and friendly. Took a private room upstairs. Air conditioning perfect, bed comfortable, room clean, bathrooms clean. Common area spacious (though a lot of space is taken by furniture for sale). Hot and cold drinking water available free. Very central. Great advice from Katie.
