It was an amazing journey and enjoyable stay at the Island. We were pick-up and transferred to Bungaraya Resort at ***a Island from Jesselton Jetty in a big ferry owned by Bungaraya Resort .. there were only 4 passengers but i felt safe enough in that big ferry .. the sea was quite rough at that time. The service from registration at Bungaraya ferry point to the resort was superb.. they will carry all your suitcase from their office at the Jesselton Jetty until to your room at the Island. Thanks to Rizal and other Managerial staff of Bungaraya Resort our stay was wonderful and the Bungaraya Resort and surrounding was breathtakingly beautiful

We happened to be the only boat on the way, so we were able to fully enjoy our privacy.
The island is full of nature and there are many wild monkeys.
I thought that the fact that they came to the breakfast venue to play pranks was unique to nature.
The room was very cute with a cottage feel, and it was very nice to be connected to the beach right away!
This time it was one night, but I think it is recommended to stay here for two nights or more.

Great resort. We stayed at ocean villa 30 for two nights. Well maintained and special place. The staff are truely amazing. A special thanks to Karl the resort manager for listining to our feedback and returning some good karma. Also many thanks to the restaurant chef for the best food we had so far in Malaysia. Some small improvements: - airconditioning is a bit too loud even in sleep mode to keep on during the night - during and after a tropical rainshower the plumbing could not take it anymore, we accept that, but not the smell it gave inside the room. The positive: - free water sports, kayak, subs - kayak to the mangrove, do it yourself - breakfast at your own jetty - very good food, best value for money - sevice orientated staff all around taking very good care of you - daily plastic cleanup from the resort. Remember it is not their waste. They do anything to minimise the plastic footprint, even providing your own drink bottles - very clean rooms, great beds, amazing bathroom - only a short boat trip from KK away Terima Kasih Echoresorts :)

Hospitality reinvented! We had a truly unique and fabulous experience at Gayana Marine resort. From the moment we were met at the airport, the boat transfer and when we entered the resort, the friendly staff greeted us warmly. Our ocean room was comfortable and well equipped. The view from our room magnificent. Meal times were a feast. The staff helpful and professional, the food truly amazing. We came to celebrate our wedding anniversary and the staff had prepared us a special table for dinner. We also came for the diving and to do our Padi open water. Our instructor Oscar, was very professional and his explanations clear. We enjoyed every day. The spa was also very nice and has amazing views over the sea. Special thank you to Eduardo, Sandra, Suhaida, the ladies of the spa, the recreation center, the diving team and of course Oscar. You all made our stay fantastic!

I've had the privilege of staying in numerous Shangri-La's throughout Southeast Asia, and this particular one felt somewhat dated and in dire need of modernisation. I could see signs of improvements in progress, with sections that appeared to have already received a facelift.
On my first day, I ventured to the sauna, only to find the temperature so lukewarm that I couldn't even work up a sweat. I voiced my discontent, and I'm pleased to report that the issue was addressed promptly by the next day.
One aspect that left me somewhat disenchanted was the interaction, or rather lack thereof, between the staff and guests. It didn't quite embody the exemplary service one would expect from a high-end 5-star establishment.
However, there was a shining exception to this observation - Addy, who was stationed at the breakfast area. Addy demonstrated a commendable level of attentiveness, engaging guests at their tables and ensuring needs were met promptly. Whether you required additional items or sought information, Addy was the person to turn to. This kind of service truly exemplified the standard one would anticipate from a hotel of this caliber.
I did have an enjoyable stay, but for this hotel to remain a five star there is room for improvement.

The location is great, nice view. But the hotel generally is a bit lower than 5 star service. Especially the reception check in speed a bit too slow, the biggest issue for me is the breakfast, the food is average though a lots of choices, but the restaurant was too crowded, so many people, I feel I m in the market not a 5 star hotel. Anyway, I m not sure it is food poison or something else I had diarrhoea after 3 breakfasts.

We spent 3 nights at Gaya Island Resort and had a great time, I thought I would write a review because there are a few things worth considering before you go. Firstly, the place itself is amazing, the staff are super friendly and caring - probably the most professional I have ever experienced in my many years of travelling. So all in all it was a wonderful stay. The things worth noting are as follows: 1. The sunbeds, I think may have mentioned it and it's worth mentioning again - there are nowhere near enough. When you pay and arm and a leg to stay at a beautiful resort it is annoying that they haven't found a way to add more sunbeds. People get there early, throw on their towels and stay or disappear and the seat is gone for the day. This is a solvable issue and the resort should so something about it. 2. Check in is after 3 - could be later - and it's not flexible, so if you are arriving earlier be prepared to sit around waiting for your room. It would be nice if they could flex a little as waiting hours for a room without your bags is not a joy, but it is what it is. 3. Eating - you are on the resort, so you are eating in one of their restaurants - no other options available. There are a few restaurants so not really a problem (we did the hot pot restaurant and it was great), but good to be aware. By far the most expensive places we ate in Malaysia, but I guess given the quality of the resort it wasn't a surprise and the main restaurant is reasonable enough. 4. Activities - my wife and daughter did the cooking class and loved it, we did the night walk - which was fun and me and my son did the coral garden. The Coral garden was fun and I was lucky to see a big old shark. However there is a large amount of plastic floating on the surface of the water that is quite concerning and makes the whole place not feel so clean. The corals and fish look healthy so may be fine, but be prepared to swim through bottles and crisp bags to see the fish. The local resorts and local authorities should really work together to resolve and you pay the tourist tax, so not sure where that's going, but not to plastic clearance by the look of it. Hope that's helpful. all in all, it's a beautiful place to stay, could just do with a tweak here and there to make it even better

We spent a couple of nights here with our 5 year old and had a lovely time. We wanted to leave a review to balance out some of the other reviews and so we’ll focus on the positives only. Worth reading a few reviews to get a holistic view but one thing I’d say is this isn’t a place to ‘avoid’ in our opinion. We felt it was a beautiful place to spend a few days as part of maybe a longer trip around Borneo. That’s from the perspective of having kids. Maybe couples would stay longer. Photos show the view from the pool in the morning when the water is up - it is STUNNING! Water crystal clear. When the water goes out later in the day, the beach is exposed and our son spent a lot of time playing there digging. We were there 30th Aug - 1st Sept and weather was perfect. Hot!! Sun is really strong here, cover up! Wake up for sunrise if you fancy a beautiful view! Rooms comfy and good space. Staff are generally lovely. The most beautiful people. A particular shout out to the water sports staff, the female manager (I think she’s called Rosie), and the staff who help you on and off the boat, thank you Raj for the recommendation to get an Uber! We loved the snorkelling - perfect with an adventurous 5 year old who saw lots of fish but it wasn’t too deep. You can snorkel from the sunbeds and grab a paddle board - great fun! Our air con didn’t work in the first room (I think this is rare) and we were moved swiftly to a new room. Air con was great after that and slept well in it. We heard great things about Cove restaurant - we didn’t go as kids under 12 not allowed but the food sounded very good. We always got sun beds around 8/9am but understand that later in the day they might be taken. We didn’t get a chance to go to the private beach and see the rescue turtles but next time we would do. The real gem for us of this place is the view from the sunbeds as per pics. Read a few more reviews to see if it’s right for you as we focus here on the positives! Thank you Gayá for your beautiful people and stunning views

The staff is very nice & efficient. We noted it’s a smoking room after check-in, and the staff arranged another non-smoking room for us as requested upon booking. The swimming pool locates on the rooftop, with a rooftop bar & restaurant.
Located near the city center, close to lots of local food & restaurants.

As a long-distance couple that can only meet with one another once every one to two months, choosing where to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday was even more important for me, and I can say with full confidence that I did not choose wrong in staying at Shangri-la Rasa Ria. I contacted them prior to my visit about possibly helping me out with planning a surprise and celebrating the birthday, and the staff were all extremely supportive and cooperative in planning out the details. On the day of the surprise, we originally had planned to have them organized at one of the outdoor bars overlooking the sunset, but because of heavy rain, the staff all helped me reorganize them at the lobby bar, with the band singing the Happy Birthday Song together with the staffs and the other hotel guests joining in. The overall experience was also absolutely wonderful, and we enjoyed the 4 nights we stayed there. Perhaps if there is one thing to keep in mind, it would be its location, as it is situated about an hour's drive from the airport and the city center (if not more depending on the traffic).

Hotel is just too great. Though remote, offers various types of activities for guests. Joined canopy observation, horse riding and firefly tour, all the guides of the activities were nice and friendly.

The Le Meridien KK a beautiful and very comfortable place to stay for a relaxing vacation. The location is just perfect, right at the city centre, facing the sea. Beautiful sunset view!! There are many places to eat within walking distance and the big malls are just 10mins away by Grab. The staff were very polite and always so helpful with suggestions of places to eat and shop. Great place to stay in KK!

We love the room. We even request for extra pillow, towel, blanket, plate and they deliver it ASAP. Breakfast was so delicious. However the room is too cold although we have switch off the aircond. However we do enjoy our stay. Thank you

Overall our 2-night stay at Hyatt Centric KK was comfy n relaxing. The lobby n top floor lounge ambience is excellent~feeling of calmness. Rooms are spacious n clean with beautiful sunset seaview. We especially like the bathroom with sitting bench~ a considerate design for guests who prefer to sit n shower. Restaurant staff were very well-mannered n helpful. The hotel is well located just opposite the Sabah Suria shopping mall, so it's very convenient if you wish to dine out or shop around…

The hotel is unique with the interior was modern with a touch of traditional elements. The room was spacious and comfortable. The seaview room was breathtaking. The staffs were extremely well mannered and helpful. The tricky part was there is not much of parking space if you plan to park your car.

We stayed here as part of a group tour. The first impressions were great as the staff took our luggage to our accommodation and they gave us a helpful briefing about the island. We were also welcomed with cold towels and a cold drink which was very welcome. The island does get very busy, particularly on weekends with day trippers, but we liked that there was a beach specifically for hotel guests. The hotel also has a pool but we didn’t use this. Our room was really nice with a comfy bed and fluffy pillows and good air con. We had a safe, a fridge and kettle and tea and coffee, and the bathroom was nice and spacious. We also had sofas to sit and relax with a tv. The only point I would make is that there were no shelves to put your clothes on in the rooms but we got creative and took the ironing board out of the cupboard and created our own makeshift shelf. It was so sweet that the staff left us a weather forecast on a card for the next day, and some chocolates in our room. The restaurant on the island was really good with nice breakfast choices and dinner options. Breakfast was included and we thought the food options and drinks were reasonably priced. We were also serenaded by a band who played a few songs for us at dinner which was fun. We loved walking along the pier where you could see baby black tips, puffers, needle fish and shoals of fish - anchovies. There are a lot of sandflies and mosquitoes on the island and in our room we were given a plugged in repellant along with a candle to deter them which the staff lit for us. Even though we wore repellent at night (dusk and dawn), we got so many bites so it is worth covering up at night; especially legs and feet. We also got lots of stings on the snorkelling trip from sea lice, so if you are sensitive to bites and feel allergic, we would recommend that you wear a long wetsuit or lycra pants if you have them. We had a lovely relaxing time here and it was a very enjoyable stay for us.

We contacted hotel for ferry pick up preference time via email after we booked the hotel.
Waiting at the hotel booth area before pick up. Once arrived, you pay the entrance fee (local RM8, foreigner RM25). Welcome drink and short briefing about the island before we have our room key.
Room is big, clean but we spent most of the time on beach. Only one restaurant is open, basically you settle all your meal here. Evening time have live band singing beside your table while you having your dinner. Big swimming pools is beside the restaurant.
You able to buy sandwich near beach for convenience to other tourist. Other tourists but not hotel guest are enable to enter hotel area.
You may walk 1.5KM to the other side of the island (sunset point) to enjoy the sunset view. It took us about 30mins walk. Unfortunately it’s cloudy day and we can’t see the full sunset. Please prepare torch light as when the sun is down, the walk way to go back hotel can be dark and scary.
We only stayed one day on the island, so sad that the next day morning from 8am, Manukan is so crowded due to some event happening there.
Found dead jellyfish on the beach, not sure of anyone injured due to this.
Overall, enjoyed the stay in Sutera Sanctuary Lodges.
