This is a very special spot. The historic building is a snug and unusual find. The location is perfect for explioring. There is a paved cycle path a short distance from the Inn door, plenty of walks into Dartmoor and the Lyddon Gorge and around tiwns like Tavistock. Simon and the rest of the Inn's staff are true gems. The food and drink are awesome. There is a large garden area next to a creek and I imagine it is very busy on warm and sunny days. We visited during a quiet period and slept well. If you are planning to visit with outdoor gear or need a hike-all-day breakfast, I would suggest making arrangements with the owners ahead of time.

Delicious grown up food, great service, good location and friendly staff. I enjoyed sea bass and vegetables and my husband enjoyed red deer. Good for a special meal. We didn’t bring the children but they would have been welcomed. Will eat here again when we are in the area.

I booked a table for 14 for Boxing Day lunch for a family gathering midway between our respective homes. The booking team were superb, including accommodating a last minute change to numbers due to Covid. Nonetheless we were still a large group of 11. The whole team were friendly, professional, and helpful and despite having had a very busy month, we were incredibly well looked after. The menu was extensive (suiting teenagers through to older folk), the food was piping hot and absolutely delicious. Thank you to the whole team for a wonderful family event. I would highly recommend to all 😀

Really good food, a pleasant suprise and find. The only thing that i would say is that where we were sat it was freezing cold. We were sat where there was a huge draft from a door and it was it the corridor between the main dining areas so not brilliant for atmosphere. The food i cannot fault but would choose to be somewhere where there was some heat. In the winter on a cold day you do not want to be eating with your coat on.

I booked this pub for a lunch as a treat for my husband to break the journey whilst travelling to Cornwall. I had purchased a travelzoo voucher for 3 course meal. We arrived on time and shown to the restaurant . We did ask if we could sit in one of the snug areas in the bar but not an option. Given a limited menu with most courses with a supplement with no actual pries for the food. We ordered and asked to see the usual menu. Not an option. I queried the supplement and told food prices had gone up, I presumed it was the landlady we spoke to. Courses arrived and food good. We paid up and had a stroll around the grounds before setting off to our destination. Nice grounds and pub. After settling into our accommodation we checked the food prices and both couldn’t believe what we were seeing. They had hiked up prices for the travelzoo diners. Most dishes on the their usual menu would not have occurred any supplements. Shame on this establishment for being so scrupulous. We have reported this to travelzoo.

We stayed in the Hayloft which is a very spacious room with a lovely view of the garden and a babbling brook. We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay and found the staff pleasant and helpful. It was a great find and the food was exceptional. The Steak Night deal was good value( very nice red wine included) - a real treat! We had reservations as there was no cooked breakfast on offer ,but the hamper system (delivered to the room) was brilliant and more than adequate. In fact I actually preferred it. ( A hot bap is available some days) Bearslake is a hidden gem, nice and quiet, a good base to explore the area- loved it!

Absolutely wonderful. We had a Travelzoo voucher (second time ) wow you will not be disappointed. The choice on the menu was fantastic. We had three courses all Absolutely amazing. We felt we were on Masterchef. The quality and the presentation of the food was excellent. The two young waiters were very efficient and so pleasant. The restaurant was lovely and cosy and the tables were arranged so that you weren't on top of other customers. We will be back very soon. Great location too.

A gem of a place. Setting is beautiful. We arrived early and a few miles down the road was a great walk. The menu was interesting and the roast beef was delicious (forgot to take a picture) and the chicken liver parfait very tasty. The Fruit and Nut dessert was to die for! If you enjoy saving on blanc the new Zealand one is light, fresh and very drinkable.
