What an interesting B & B! The house itself dated 1440 I think the host said is incredible! If you’re looking for premier inn type accommodation then don’t book. This b & b is quirky, full of nooks and crannies jammed packed with character, including the hosts. They are friendly, down to earth and very welcoming. When we arrived they were fighting floods but it didn’t dampen their spirits. Pet friendly, good breakfast on a Sunday in particular as in cooked, other day’s cereal, toast, fruit etc all served around a vast table in a lovely dining room, encouraging talk with other guests instead of just not communicating much with others, I loved that! We will be back!

Wonderful hosts - an example of good hospitality that many less well rated b & b's could copy. Very flexible with check in and breakfast times, thank you. Breakfast covered all you would expect and more .. Interesting and quirky listed property.

Arrived at the place, was met straight away by the owner, greeted and taken to my room. Lovely wood burning stove in main lounge, was kindly offered home made wine and food. Great Wi-Fi for those that need, very friendly staff that couldn’t do enough. My room was cosy, was facing main road, bit noisy but that was ok. Stairs a little steep for those that might be less mobile but there are other rooms on ground floor. The house has a lot of history, it’s clean and although staying a night, I would return. Thank you

A real home from home with lovely hosts Terry and Lynnie in their beautiful, old, quirky house. Great value if you're happy to stay in the rooms with no en-suite. The bathroom is nearby with the MOST amazing walk in shower. Substantial breakfast included.

Having booked the Buttery an ensuite double room. We were disappointed when we arrived there were no tea making facilities in the room, (tea could be made in the dining room at any time) and no locks on the doors. THe small double bed was only accessible from one side. The bathroom was up steep stairs not suited to tall guests. There was no shower and no hot water. We changed rooms to a summerhouse in the courtyard. This room had a kitchen area and two small double beds. The two half doors into the bathroom did not open fully and the shower door didn't shut properly. The chalet backed on to a main A road and traffic could be heard at most times. The water pipes rattled and we were awoken at 5.30am by an active cockrel. Breakfast was served on a communial table. The food was ok and the hosts friendly, it was just disappointing as the reviews and photos didn't match our visit. In comparison to other places we stayed on our trip the room was very overprice.

Was only at bridge street historic guest house for less then 30 minutes so this will be a short review. Arrived after booking on Air B&B, Terry showed us to our room which was very smelly, damp and mouldy in places. We were warned to be careful as some form of building works had been started in the garden area. I was not happy to have my little girl sleeping on what must have been a 40 year old tatty sofa bed in a damp room so be left. Full refund has been given. I honestly don’t know how this place has so many good reviews so that’s why I feel the need to write this to warn people it’s not as it seems.

Have to say we were very disappointed, the bedrooms and en-suite do not in any way whatsoever reflect the photos which are on the website. This was not due to the age of this lovely building, but rather the poor decor and condition of the facilities provided, The dining room and sitting room were beautifully dressed and clean. We were asked, in an extremely casual way as our host hurried past to deal with lost property, to let him know if “we wanted anything cooked”, but he disappeared for 20 minutes by which time we had eaten our toast and marmalade and needed to be on our way. There was however a nicely well stocked dresser with juice, yoghurts, cereals, toast, jam and hot coffee or tea, however, previous reviews mentioned the glorious breakfast which we were really looking forward to, but we thought it rude to mention as there was no proper discussion about it, rather an afterthought on our hosts part. Have to say we chose the Historic Guest House as we do not like boring hotel rooms, so our review is a mixture of good but could do so very much better.

A unique experience. Terry the owner couldn't do enough for us. The original room was not suitable for my husband's needs so he gave us the choice of 2 more rooms. We were fascinated with the history of the building and loved hearing about it.
