Sol Cala d'Or

We had a lovely stay at Sol Cala d’Or. Our apartment was spotlessly clean, with everything you’d need in a small kitchenette. The air conditioning was very effective too. We had a spacious apartment with a balcony looking over the street, which was completely fine for us. The hotel is situated conveniently with a shop next door and the beach and main town area 5 minutes away. We didn’t use much of the pool but whenever we did use it, there were spare loungers to be had and the pool area itself was very clean. No frills but a really clean hotel which made a for a really comfortable stay. We really enjoyed our stay here.

This is a lovely set of apartments set just 5 mins walk from the main food and drinks area. They have awesome plastic beds in the pool which sounds weird but perfect for drying off, getting a little bit cooler because of where the water sits, or a bit of posing if that’s you’re thing (it’s not mine and we didn’t see a lot of it). The on site restaurant is open until 5pm so no onsite entertainment, but you don’t need it as it’s so central. It also means the complex is lovely and quiet in the evening if that’s your preference. Early or late in the season you don’t have to fight for sun beds. They have a kids pool and an on site supermarket. The staff are all lovely and helpful (except for one who I shan’t name!. The rooms are good. We’ve stayed here twice. Once on the second floor (standard studio) and once on the ground floor in an apartment. The facilities are basic but effective. Our only negative was that our ground floor room was quite damp (to the point you could feel it in your clothes and the mattresses). When we mentioned it to reception we got a blank look, which was a bit disappointing. It appeared to be rising damp, and wasn’t near any water services within the appointment. No ill effects suffered apart from damp clothes but it wasn’t ideal. I appreciate it may be because it’s early in the season… but I doubt a good airing would have helped much! For the sun worshippers, get a bed on the furthest side (if looking at it from the bar) if you like to lay out into the evening sun (comes over from mid morning); if you’re more of an early bird go for the nearest; the sun goes off of that area late afternoon.

We stayed at this lovely hotel from 11th to 18th May ‘24, and we had a great time. There was a problem on checking in at 3am and, after a tiring journey which was no fault of the hotel, it made us expect the worse. We were warmly greeting by the night reception, who gave us a detailed explanation of where our apartment was. (Up the lift, along the corridor, up another lift, along a corridor). On opening the door we immediately knew the room hadn’t been made up, so left husband there whilst I went all the way back to reception to get another room. All the way back to the original room to collect husband, luggage, etc, back along the corridor, down a lift, along a corridor. The apartment we eventually settled in to, 306, was excellent, newly refurbished with a view onto the street at the front of the hotel, which suited us as we’re not pool people! We had a lovely large lounge and well equipped kitchenette, and stairs to the upper floor led to a large bedroom with the biggest bed I’ve ever seen, and a clean modern bathroom with ample shelves for all bathroom ‘bits’. We didn’t need to use the air conditioner so can’t comment on its efficiency, the shower always had plenty of hot water but the control was very very finely tuned, it was easy to get blasted with boiling hot or freezing cold water if it wasn’t adjusted properly. This could be very dangerous for young children. Towels were beautifully clean and fresh smelling and the provided toiletries were good quality, especially the shampoo and conditioner. We didn’t use the pool or dining/snack bar facilities at all but it all looked clean and inviting. All the staff, including the cleaning ladies, greeted us with a friendly ‘Ola’ , and went over and above to help with any queries we had. The checking out luggage holding facilities were well thought out, with clean shower and changing facilities, again with towels and toiletries provided. Would we stay here again? DEFINITELY! We enjoyed every second, and the central location of the hotel suited us perfectly. Thank you Sol Cala D’or apartments.

Arrived to find out room not ready so moved us to one that was ready it’s a corner room with no sunshine and next door can look straight into our room even if we are sat in the bedroom so curtains need to be drawn. They also know the ones next to us so stand at their balcony having a chat which is awkward when you want to come out the shower with the daylight coming in. Bit unsure to ask to move as only here 1 week

Lovely pleasant apartment, very clean , exceptional value for money, 5 minutes walking for all restaurants and bars, it be a bit pricey in the main areas but if go down some of the back streets it is very respectable priced. The complex has a lovely pool area with plenty of sun loungers , a nice cafe / bar area, cant fault the place at all

Our first day in the apartment was awful. We were put in a dark ground floor room with absolutely no view. We didn't have toilet rolls, cutlery, bins, shower curtain, the sink was leaking, the list went on ..However, after complaining, several times, we got a room change to the 1st floor, a lot better. The complex was very clean, if not a bit old fashioned, but the staff were helpful and pleasant. Very long wait each time we went to reception. I don't think I would stay here again.

Room 527 - attic room. Dogleg stairs on entry very steep with low ceiling to crack your head. Then there is only standing room in centre of room as room slopes both side Pool - if you look at the tiles they have mouldy sludge throughout never seen the pool cleaned the whole time we were there. The floor surrounding the pool full of muddy sludge. See photos. Jacuzzi - green like a swamp. Whole roof area again filthy. Cleaning - room cleaned twice during our visit and sheets simply remade with same sheets. We knew this as we were bitten badly in the beds and only in the beds and the blood spots remained after each “clean” Ants - the room is infested with ants. When we asked for a room with less ants we were advised they would clean the ants. They didn’t even visit that day. Reported a further 2 times after this. Nothing done. One staff said yeh we have a big problem with ants. The Tramp - an elderly homeless gentleman came to the pool. 2 shoelaces wrapped round his legs. He stunk as he walked by everyone round the pool. He then pulled a pair of trousers over his heavily degraded shorts and got in the pool he then stripped from the clothes and rang them out basically washing his filthy clothes by the pool. One guest reported him and we were told that he always comes and he’s harmless. What sort of a manager allows a homeless man to wash himself and his clothes in the pool infront of paying guests and thinks this is acceptable. He may well be harmless but it was a disgusting spectacle and it does not look very respectful to the paying guests. He went on to play air guitar on his tennis racket to then lay on his back outside the hotel scraping sludge off the floor with a card which was some other mess he had made. Show some respect to your paying customers it’s really not rocket science. The 1 hour happy hour once a week on a Saturday is a joke 3-4pm we didn’t see this time once. Overall the worst place we’ve ever stayed. Badly managed. Mistreated hotel that could be nice given some common sense and effort.

Second time we have visited these apartments. Love them our kids are 16 and 10. They loved them too. Fantastic WiFi all hours of the day was their favourite bit 😂. One bedroom apartments are plenty big enough when the sofas are made in to beds. Last year we stayed in room 123 and asked for the same room. The hotel obliged with giving us 124 which was just as good and on the ground floor. No fights for sun beds. Yes people reserved but at 10am you could still get them for 4 people together. Breakfast spot on and until 10.30 which is good. Pool bar great and nice food. Large beer was €3.5 euros which you don’t find often in cala d’or. Great price. Great location and a lovely pool. Staff always very helpful and the cleaners brilliant. Will be back!!!

My husband and I stayed for a week end of June in a change to our usual holiday style. We always tend to go all inclusive as it is easier and also never visit Spain as my husband finds alot of the locals to be quite rude to us as brits. Due to this we haven't been to Spain since 2017. Prior to arrival I emailed the hotel directly and requested a high floor and quiet room as I have trouble sleeping. This was accommodated with no fuss and upon arrival we had been assigned a lovely room on 5th floor with a pool view and it was, as promised, very quiet. The rooms are modern, spotlessly clean, well equipped and very comfortable. Pool area is magnificent and I could not heap any more praise on the staff. Everyone we encountered was polite, friendly, helpful and they work so hard. The day before we were due to checkout I received a call in my room to advise I had been randomly selected to spend my last night in a suite and to get complimentary breakfast which I thought was a nice touch and very kind. The suite was lovely and you have double the space set over 2 floors with 2 balconies. Perfect for families or a group of friends. Breakfast was very nice and much better than I expected. They had everything, pastries, toast, continental, many fresh chopped fruits aswell as cooked options. Excellent hotel. So good infact we have booked to come and stay again in October.
