We were looking for a chilled couple of days away with good food/wine and The Crown Inn was perfect! Keira made us very welcome, nothing was too much trouble. Our room was beautiful, however we requested to stay in the four poster bedroom, which are located in the older part of the building. Keira arranged this for us on our second night, which was wonderful. The food was really good! Specially the lamb. Breakfast was great, Molly (blonde) was very sweet and her coffees were fab! Thank you for having us x

An excellent birthday lunch in lovely surroundings. Food was excellent. A delicious chocolate tart for the birthday folks was a most pleasant surprise. Staff were all friendly and helpful. Thoroughly enjoyable and highly recommended.

We have been to The Crown previously on several occasions, including a stay for one Christmas. Thoroughly enjoying the great setting, its history, food, drink & the relaxed atmosphere on every occasion. For early March my husband & I booked to have a night away with friends (including dinner) to celebrate my 50th. Amy & Daniel, were faultless in the planning & execution of the weekend away. Having arrived on the Saturday afternoon, with a friendly greeting, we eased into the start of our weekend. Firstly, enjoyed a few drinks together while watching the 6 nations rugby with some of the lovely locals. For our dinner party of 6, we had reserved a round table- Kicking the night off with a cocktail each. Then chose from a superb selection of wines to have with dinner. The food was of its usual high standard from starter to desert. The hotel rooms were also of the very high standard we have come to expect… complete with fluffy towels, very comfortable beds & anything else you should need. We finished off a very enjoyable weekend with the outstanding choice of cooked breakfast with fresh coffee/tea & fresh squeezed orange juice. I can’t thank The staff at The Crown enough & would highly recommend it for all manor of celebrations & equally for a quiet/relaxing Sunday lunch, night out or a quiet pint.

A stunning example of preserved history, with its beautiful architecture steeped in charm. The Kings Suite exudes character with its quaint wavy floors, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere that envelops you in warmth. The attentive staff further enhance the experience, delivering service deserving of a 5/5 rating. However, what slightly detracted from my overall experience was the noise level. The bar and restaurant area were directly below the suite, coupled with the historically thin floor/ceiling, resulted in disturbances from patrons below, making it difficult to find peace and quiet until closing time, often feeling like they were within the suite with us! Despite this, The Crown Inn remains a remarkable place to stay due to its historic charm.

We stayed for a night at the Crown Inn to celebrate my birthday and I have to say, it was perfect from start to finish. We had the King's suite which is one of the Inn's historic rooms, and it really was!! Loads of character and creaky floors. It was brilliant if that's your kind of thing! We had dinner in the main restaurant and the food was excellent, really fresh and full of flavour. The star of the show had to be the lamb rump - so good, but the steak was perfectly cooked too. The cooked breakfast was excellent and set us up nicely for a day of walking. Also have to mention the team. We couldn't fault the service we received. Every member of staff we met was friendly and attentive. All in all, a brilliant short break and we'll be back for sure.

We visited as a Family today for a special occasion Lunch, was greeted at the door by a chirpy young waitress who was swiftly interrupted by a very grumpy red haired Manager, possibly Irish. She didn’t look up from the iPad just sternly told us to follow her. She waved over at our table and put the Menus down. Poor introduction to our first time visiting and sadly the whole experience didn’t get much better, all the staff were so grumpy and snappy, we had to flag them down for more drinks / condiments/ dessert Menus. They were very good at pretending not to hear several of the diners trying to get their attention. Food was ok, big portions but not worth the price tag and mostly lukewarm. Most disappointing area of our Meal was definitely the Service - why bother working in the Hospitality industry when Customers are so obviously a nuisance! Won’t be returning.

I was taken there by my then girlfriend, a while back now, this is odd to write, to stay the weekend. We'd driven a while, it was about 8pm and dark. She starts to check in and behind me was a brown leather studded wing chair, empty so I made to sit down. As I turned to park myself suddenly there was this silver haired old dear in a blue and white print dress who said "excuse me I'm sitting here". I said "oh so sorry" straightened up and looked back again at a totally empty chair. I went utterly cold throughout like hit with a wave of ice, shaking and really shocked I had to insist we left. Surely I'm not the only one?

After looking forward to our meal, it unfortunately turned out to be a very disappointing visit. The only positive was the lovely interior and building. The food majorly cut corners and had items missing in the dish that were stated in the menu making it very poor. The mains were also extremely simple with limited ingredients and flavour. Complete stretch to call a bowl of spinach leaves and a sprinkle of cheese a salad especially considering the price. The service was bad, no one checked on us, and when we said the food was only okay, they didn’t probe further. We were planning on getting pudding but ended paying the bill and leaving. Will not be returning!

Has to be one of the best pubs in southern England. Stayed overnight and ate there. When we arrived it was humming and looked like an airport departure lounge but in a good way with families and children everywhere. Wondered if we would be attended too but taken straight to our table and well looked after despite the crowds. Food was also excellent with duck breast and leg done beautifully. Can recommend the minted pea and ham soup too. Having breakfast in the now silent pub was a great experience with well cooked poached egg with no taste of vinegar made my day. Fantastic medieval room with 4 poster bed. Will aim for kings room next time
