We recently completed a 3 night stay at the Cotswold House. The hotel is in a great location in the lovely town of Chipping Campden. Check-in was easy, and there was ample parking in the back . We booked a junior suite - ours was on the first floor (2nd floor for us Americans). The room was clean and bright, with a nice view to the back. The bathroom, while large, had three issues. First, it needs a bit of updating - some peeling paint, a weird tv with fake fireplace (out of keeping with the ambiance), and a strange ceiling installation that either needed repairing or removal (also out of keeping). Second (and harder to fix), was the bathroom is 2 steps down upon opening door to bathroom - really dangerous for nocturnal visits to the bathroom (we ended up keeping the bathroom light on to remind ourselves). Someone else described these as “******* steps” - and I have to agree - I would suggest adding floor level lighting that automatically go on when the door opens. Finally - and worst of all - we had major issues with water. We either had no water, or cold/tepid water. I complained about this the first morning - and the person at the desk said they would have maintenance address. Later that day it still wasn’t working and I enquires again - different person, but they said they would address (didn’t happen). After my third request the maintenance man showed up and said they had water issues in the morning, but they had been addressed. That turned out not to be the case as we never had a good shower for our entire stay (and I would argue this is a fundamental requirement of any hotel). As for dining, we didn’t try either restaurant for lunch or dinner (the bistro looked nice but I wanted a cask ale and none to be found at the bistro), but did have breakfast. Breakfast food was great - but service on the first morning (a Saturday) was abysmal. We were quickly seated, and order taken for coffee. However it ultimately took 25 min to get our coffee. It appeared that drinks and toast orders were going to the wrong tables, then corrected incorrectly - it was a bit of a farce. Service was better on Sunday and Monday breakfast. Upon checkout, we noted the water issues and were given a small spa credit to mitigate the issue. A nice hotel - and we would try again - but needs some work on service and room.
