Kyoto Machiya Fukune

Nijo Castle Kyoto|0.23km from Joshuji
After staying at minshukus, ryokans and western-style hotels over the last several days, it was a pleasure to end our Japan stay with 2 nights at Kyoto Machiya Fukune. The 2 of us appreciated the extra space of the Sangen machiya compared to our previous lodgings to just chill out, especially when soaking in your personal outdoor hot water (not onsen) bath or the indoor hinoki bath and looking out onto the compact zen garden. Beds were comfortable and bathrooms modern and clean. The included mini-bar (Asahi beer, sake, soft drinks and water) was an unexpected bonus! The welcome tea ceremony with traditional sweets (much better than that offered with the included entry price at the Okochi Sanso Garden in Arashiyama) was a far superior greeting than fronting a hotel reception desk even if one has to wait (about 10 mins) for Miki to arrive (which was forewarned in the pre-stay info); we were informed of our security code when we rang (using the complimentary phone in the separate arrival area) and could access the machiya while waiting. Miki was very helpful with local restaurant and sightseeing tips. Excellent pre-stay information was provided via email from Kyoto Machiya Fukune. While we didn’t use the laundry (complimentary) we did make use of the locker, which we found could store 2 large suitcases and 2 carry-on luggage with room leftover for shopping bags. It cost us ¥1500 for taxi/uber from JR Kyoto stn to the machiya. Once there it is only several minutes’ walk to various train stns or bus stops. Nishiki mkt’s western entrance is about a 10min walk away. This was my 3rd time in Kyoto with the goal to visit sights we hadn’t seen previously like Arashiyama’s bamboo grove and Fushimi Inari shrine. The Randen line’s Shijo-Omiya stn is just over 10mins walk away and the tram takes you into the heart of Arashiyama’s shopping *****, the Kimino forest and near the Tongetsu-kyo bridge. Then take your time to walk to the bamboo grove via Tenryo-ji shrine. They say it best to get to the grove early to beat the tourists, but it rained in the morning, so we took our time and got to the grove about lunch-time. While crowded, it wasn’t as packed as what we thought it would be, given it was a Sunday and also ‘golden week’ (maybe people were eating lunch). We also walked to and visited the Nison-in temple that was recommended by Miki; she highlighted the moss that covered a lot of the grounds; a very worthwhile diversion and IMHO better than the Okochi Sanso Garden we also visited). Had a late lunch in the local area then walked to JR’s Saga-Arashiyama stn; ¥220 to JR’s Inari stn (simple transfer at JR Kyoto stn) with the Fushimi Inari shrine entrance across the road. The place is pricey, but we’re glad we stayed here.

Hotel the Mitsui Kyoto, a Luxury Collection Hotel & Spa

Nijo Castle Kyoto|0.48km from Joshuji
We were a group of 6 people staying at the Hotel Mitsui on a trek through Japan. Suffice it to say, that the group was all pleased that we stayed here. Our initial check in process was a bit bumpy (no tea service) as it was clear everyone was checking into the hotel for a holiday weekend. However, within 30 minutes, we were all on our way to our rooms. Overall, the hotel and the rooms are designed in muted tones and a modern zen vibe. Where other hotels would simply have drywall covered with pictures, the Mitsui has clearly thought about every surface. We were in a room that looked out to the central garden, which is beautiful. The room had a nice long marble bench at the entrance which was nice for putting shoes on or setting things down to pack / unpack. Further in the room, there is a bar area, desk area and a nice long padded bench by the window. Controls for the room are near the bed and you can dim lights or raise and lower blinds with ease. The bathroom is a very clever design with two pocket door entrances, offering a closet area, double sink, a wet room with tub and shower and rom for the toilet. The room for the toilet is wide and very peaceful. Of course, it comes with the fancy Toto Neorest toilet that raises and lowers the seat automatically, has a heated seat, has a bidet feature and more. The shower offers both a hand held and a rain head that with a fine spray. Bathroom toiletries are crafted for the Hotel Mitsui. Of course, robes were available (just ask if you need a different size). Let’s talk about sleeping…. The bed was among the most comfortable that I have ever tried (firm, with just the right amount of softness). Down pillows and a duvet complete the scene. And course, should you not like your pillow, there is a pillow menu. The rooms at the Mitsui are quiet with blackout shades. At night, gentle nightlights illuminate the path to the bathroom. In all, the sleep experience is well thought out and devine. One of the stand out features of the hotel would be the Thermal Springs in the basement. The Thermal Springs are a modern version of a traditional Japanese onsen. Access is open to everyone in the hotel, but the number of people permitted in is managed to in more than 14 people at a time. You have to call ahead to make sure there is space, but in our case, we were always able to get in. Anyone who out touring in Kyoto, should make time in their busy schedule to visit the Thermal Springs between their tours and dinner - it is a great way to wash off the city and relax before dinner - very civilized. This review is particularly fun for me as our stay at the Mitsui ultimately caused us to break up with our travel agent. He was SO insistent that we stay at the Ritz , he could not imagine trying something new like the Mitsui (nor was he willing o have his team check it out). In the end, I feel vindicated, we loved our stay at the Mitsui and would happily return

The Royal Park Hotel Iconic Kyoto

Service: Excellent service from hotel staff, spoke English, accommodating, helpful and cheerful. Location : Quiet area, right next to a train station exit, convenient location. It is close to Kyoto Station by taxi ( approx 5-10 mins), located at an intersection and was easy to grab a taxi. It is not located that close to the main Kyoto shopping street, but it's just a peaceful 5-10 minutes walk away from the main stretch of shopping and food areas. Great to explore the quiet side of Kyoto. Lawson mart just opposite, the quiet lane opposite had lots of quaint cafes and bakeries. What a wonderful find just walking through the little lanes opposite. Away from tourists crowds, immersed in local Kyoto city vibes. Room style and space: Room furnishing decor colours were so soothing, stylish pale sage greens, light cream and oak, modern and pleasant , light cream tones. Fantastic huge single beds and pillows, fluffy and clean pillows, huge sofa, strong showers from rain shower in bathroom. Loved every corner in my corner room. Spacious work desk at the corner, perfect for a working business trip. The balcony flanked the entire room length.. absolutely wonderful.. sat outside on the balcony and people watched. Bathroom amenities and products included face and body moisturizers, combs etc, all wrapped in classic stylish Japanese style. Perks: We received daily vouchers which we could use for lounge cocktail hour (free flow great selections of wines, beers, sake, hot drinks etc drinks and snacks) or for high tea set in the lounge area. The lounge area was so cozy. Wonderful vibes. High tea set was amazing, provided by famous patissierie that's located in the hotel lobby. Wonderful chill experience just before we head out for daily dinners. Facilities: We checked out the mist room and onsen.. so clean and stylish. Felt like we were at a W hotel. Overall super fantastic experience, wonderful ambience, rooms were new, stylish and cleanliness was top notch. Property itself is very new and modern. Perfect for solo or couples. Very quiet (some traffic noise, but not a big deal), peaceful neighborhood, chic furnishings. I loved my stay in Nov so much, I will stay again in future. Downside: The rooms face a few offices opposite, windows are not coated with opaque film.. so just be aware and not walk around underdressed in the room in full view of opposite buildings. Windows are definitely see through! Nothing the day curtains can't fix.

With his birthday surprise, I tried to book a hotel in secret to him and considered a hotel with a color 々, but finally decided to come here. I felt that the hospitality of the staff, including the receptionist, was great. First of all, I had a surprise meeting by email at the stage after the reservation. I ordered a balloon on the Internet and asked me to arrange it in the form that I arrived at the hotel the day before, but I accepted it well and received it properly. On the day, we asked earlier than check-in time and left our accommodation luggage and birthday present. I asked you to leave a present at the foot of the balloon, but the front staff confirmed the plan quite carefully. I was very happy to be able to accompany the anxiety of surprise. Originally, the staff seems to be attending the room and introducing the room, but I think it's better to go up with two people this time. All the introduction of the room was done at the front desk. When I entered the room, the original fantasy atmosphere of the room was combined, and it was finished more than I imagined, and the surprise was made to tear. The cake prepared was also moved to a beautiful dish and made a candle, and carried it to the room at the scheduled time, but I was impressed with the tea. I had an unforgettable memory, thank you very much. I was reading a bad word of mouth before booking, so I would like to express my impressions about you this time. ① The bath plug is loose and even if it accumulates, it decreases freely. Similar things happened here, but when the angle of the plug is played, it has accumulated firmly. It seemed to be a problem on the guest side. ② The size of the room clothes is small I brought my room clothes on the day because I saw the word of mouth here. Therefore, I did not have a room suit in my hand and I could not confirm the size. I had a grass shoe, and I had a big leg while I was a woman, so I struggled to wear it, but I had a disposable slipper in the closet right at the entrance. If you like me, it seems that there is no problem using it. ③ Breakfast is cold. The side dishes were not warm. But I realize that these side dishes are cold and not a problem, and the taste is delicious. It was warm about things that were not delicious unless they were warm such as rice and miso soup. ④ The desk to eat breakfast is low. But the table is high and the room's landscape seems to be damaged. I enjoyed the atmosphere of the whole room and wanted to enjoy the room relaxing, so it was better than having an unnaturally high table. I think my dining table in my home is good, but I couldn't understand why I put a ketch on the hotel table for a few nights... ⑤ The window is big but there is no curtain so it is dazzling in the morning ⑥ There is no TV so I have time. About two things here, it is the taste of this hotel that the window is big and there is no TV. Fantastic room with large windows and open feeling. I don't dare to put a TV to forget the ukiyo and taste the fantastic space slowly. This is written on the hotel HP. It would be my own problem that I didn't check in advance. I enjoyed the time flowing slowly because there was no TV and I was able to refresh. Also, there is a curtain for the curtain! Did you overlook it, the button to close the curtain is on the pillow. I think it would have been nice to ask the front desk if it was dazzling. It was a very nice space.

PARK HOTEL KYOTO

There are many things to like about this hotel but let me start with the most important- its people. I must give special thanks to the Front Office Manager- Yuki. On one of the nights, I had unfortunately developed a high fever- coming from abroad, I was in an anxious state about the care I may receive or what my next steps should be. All the hospitals in the surrounding area were full and could not accept walk ins. We rang the front desk and the manager Yuki reassured us that he would assist in ensuring I received proper medical attention asap. He made a few calls to his personal network and sure enough within minutes he had secured us a slot at a local hospital, arranging everything for us to ensure we were attended to immediately by the hospital staff and effectively treated. He went out of his way to help arrange the transport and did it all in the most warm, friendly demeanour. Just interacting with him had put me at ease and the extent he went to help was incredible. I had never experienced such personalised care from one of the hotel staff in my life and have stayed at multiple properties both locally and globally- Thank you Yuki, you were truly amazing and I hope to see you in Singapore! Location wise the hotel is situated pretty centrally - you've got access to multiple convenient stores, train station, bus stops and the area is relatively quiet and peaceful. Rooms were spacious enough and clean too.

advantage: The service is meticulous. The facilities in the hotel, hot springs, and the neighborhoods around the hotel have very detailed introductions and instructions in English. The hotel room also provides conversion plugs, which is very friendly to foreign tourists. If it is your first time to go to Japan, it will be very comfortable to have such a detailed introduction. The space is well set up. The hotel lobby and guest room area pass through a door that requires a swipe card. The hot spring is also in the guest room area, so you can stroll around in the guest room area wearing the yukata provided by the hotel. There is a small bathhouse. This experience is very Japanese, with a seated shower area and a large bath that is not too big. Carbonic acid is added to the water in the bath. After entering, many small bubbles will gather on the skin, which is very interesting. There are many independent dressing tables in the dressing area where you can sit and blow dry your hair. The whole place is not big, but it is very comfortable to use. The semi-buffet breakfast is exquisite. The buffet section is basically Japanese side dishes, salads, and desserts, and the set menu can be selected from Japanese or Western styles. The ones we chose were all Japanese, including a piece of grilled fish, miso soup, tamagoyaki, chawanmushi and various side dishes. The portions were not large, but one bite left and right made us full without realizing it. shortcoming: The only drawback is that it is a bit far from the subway station and dragging suitcases is a bit tiring. But the surrounding small streets are very easy to stroll around, with many interesting shops.

We had mixed reviews of this accomodation Pros - was a very large room two small doubles and a bunk perfect for families. Amenities are great with wifi, lots of kitchen utensils, stove, tea and coffee supplied, toothbrushes available, washing machine and tablets are provided with an inbuilt dryer system in the bathroom. Bathroom and shower area was also spacious. Beds are on the okay side but could be softer. The area itself is nice and quiet with a bus stop right out from we utilised every day, supermarket and Lawsons are across the road and you feel very safe. Would recommend for families. Cons - check in is in a different location 20minute taxi away so we had to catch a train to the check in office when arriving in Kyoto from Osaka, then a taxi to the accomodation after this which chewed up a few hours as we had to wait 45min in addition to check in due to busyness of the office. The area is a bit out of the way of everything next time I might consider staying at a different resi stay location closer to sights and facilities like shops etc. All the restaurants in the area seem to not open for breakfast until 11am so we had to have McDonald’s if we didn’t want to cook or travel too far for breakfast as we have a toddler (early riser). Same occurred at dinner time a lot of restaurants didn’t seem to be open the Monday or Tuesday we were there or opened too late for us (we travelled with a four year old). Our last disappointment was resi stay apparently have a strict not noise at night policy however another room partied until about 3am but there is no front desk or after hours phone number to call to complain / get the noise to stop. Was very frustrating as walls were very thin so we didn’t sleep very well. Overall we would stay with Resi Stay again but at another location due to Nishijin being a bit too out of the way for us.

It's a long way from any railway station, but there are bus stops nearby. The room environment is clean and comfortable, and the facilities in the room are sufficient. In addition, because of a problem with the itinerary that day, it was too late to check in at Kyoto Station. Finally, I completed the procedures by phone and went directly to the room. The service was good.

It was a nice hotel with a clean feeling and including the staff's response. The location was a little far from downtown so I was able to spend quiet and comfortable. It was also good that the toilet and the bath were separated. The bath was also good to be soaked in hot water slowly because there was a washroom and a bathtub. This time I was in the car, but it was convenient because there was a coin parking nearby. I repeat it again.

very good service! Because my daughter is unwell and needs to find a nearby medical clinic, the hotel staff is eager to help search for the nearest hospital and can even help to book a taxi for medical treatment. Although I didn't use this service in the end, thank you hotel staff for your help!

We loved everything about this hotel. It was located away from the main town, but was in a quaint neighborhood with many small shops around it. The staff was great. The room was amazing - I've never seen so much detail put into a room. They literally thought of everything to make a guest comfortable. Unique design in each room, super duper clean, spacious (with a living room!) and they even leave amazing pajamas for you to wear during your stay. I felt like the staff was like family. Upon check out, they escorted us out to a cab and waived to us goodbye until we were on our way, just like my family does. If I'm ever in Kyoto again, I wouldn't stay any other place.

We booked last minute after having stayed in a ryokan for two nights as we wanted something comfortable. The location is really good. This was pure luxury. The room was amazing. Felt like a 5 star hotel. The bed was so comfy and the room had everything we could need. The staff went above and beyond. The a manger went home really late the day we arrived because we were late (I forgot his name but a very professional and nice gentleman). The lady who was there was also really nice. The next day we had the pleasure of meeting Bando. A lovely gentleman! All of the staff were terrific and caring. Free coffee in the reception too which is nice! Great location too, it’s in a lovely neighbourhood with great restaurants and close to the centre. I would highly recommend this hotel for any kind of stay.
