Hotel the Mitsui Kyoto, a Luxury Collection Hotel & Spa

Nijo Castle Kyoto|0.24km from Kyoto Chirin Chirin, Nijojo Delivery Center
We were a group of 6 people staying at the Hotel Mitsui on a trek through Japan. Suffice it to say, that the group was all pleased that we stayed here. Our initial check in process was a bit bumpy (no tea service) as it was clear everyone was checking into the hotel for a holiday weekend. However, within 30 minutes, we were all on our way to our rooms. Overall, the hotel and the rooms are designed in muted tones and a modern zen vibe. Where other hotels would simply have drywall covered with pictures, the Mitsui has clearly thought about every surface. We were in a room that looked out to the central garden, which is beautiful. The room had a nice long marble bench at the entrance which was nice for putting shoes on or setting things down to pack / unpack. Further in the room, there is a bar area, desk area and a nice long padded bench by the window. Controls for the room are near the bed and you can dim lights or raise and lower blinds with ease. The bathroom is a very clever design with two pocket door entrances, offering a closet area, double sink, a wet room with tub and shower and rom for the toilet. The room for the toilet is wide and very peaceful. Of course, it comes with the fancy Toto Neorest toilet that raises and lowers the seat automatically, has a heated seat, has a bidet feature and more. The shower offers both a hand held and a rain head that with a fine spray. Bathroom toiletries are crafted for the Hotel Mitsui. Of course, robes were available (just ask if you need a different size). Let’s talk about sleeping…. The bed was among the most comfortable that I have ever tried (firm, with just the right amount of softness). Down pillows and a duvet complete the scene. And course, should you not like your pillow, there is a pillow menu. The rooms at the Mitsui are quiet with blackout shades. At night, gentle nightlights illuminate the path to the bathroom. In all, the sleep experience is well thought out and devine. One of the stand out features of the hotel would be the Thermal Springs in the basement. The Thermal Springs are a modern version of a traditional Japanese onsen. Access is open to everyone in the hotel, but the number of people permitted in is managed to in more than 14 people at a time. You have to call ahead to make sure there is space, but in our case, we were always able to get in. Anyone who out touring in Kyoto, should make time in their busy schedule to visit the Thermal Springs between their tours and dinner - it is a great way to wash off the city and relax before dinner - very civilized. This review is particularly fun for me as our stay at the Mitsui ultimately caused us to break up with our travel agent. He was SO insistent that we stay at the Ritz , he could not imagine trying something new like the Mitsui (nor was he willing o have his team check it out). In the end, I feel vindicated, we loved our stay at the Mitsui and would happily return

Kyoto Machiya Fukune

Nijo Castle Kyoto|0.5km from Kyoto Chirin Chirin, Nijojo Delivery Center
After staying at minshukus, ryokans and western-style hotels over the last several days, it was a pleasure to end our Japan stay with 2 nights at Kyoto Machiya Fukune. The 2 of us appreciated the extra space of the Sangen machiya compared to our previous lodgings to just chill out, especially when soaking in your personal outdoor hot water (not onsen) bath or the indoor hinoki bath and looking out onto the compact zen garden. Beds were comfortable and bathrooms modern and clean. The included mini-bar (Asahi beer, sake, soft drinks and water) was an unexpected bonus! The welcome tea ceremony with traditional sweets (much better than that offered with the included entry price at the Okochi Sanso Garden in Arashiyama) was a far superior greeting than fronting a hotel reception desk even if one has to wait (about 10 mins) for Miki to arrive (which was forewarned in the pre-stay info); we were informed of our security code when we rang (using the complimentary phone in the separate arrival area) and could access the machiya while waiting. Miki was very helpful with local restaurant and sightseeing tips. Excellent pre-stay information was provided via email from Kyoto Machiya Fukune. While we didn’t use the laundry (complimentary) we did make use of the locker, which we found could store 2 large suitcases and 2 carry-on luggage with room leftover for shopping bags. It cost us ¥1500 for taxi/uber from JR Kyoto stn to the machiya. Once there it is only several minutes’ walk to various train stns or bus stops. Nishiki mkt’s western entrance is about a 10min walk away. This was my 3rd time in Kyoto with the goal to visit sights we hadn’t seen previously like Arashiyama’s bamboo grove and Fushimi Inari shrine. The Randen line’s Shijo-Omiya stn is just over 10mins walk away and the tram takes you into the heart of Arashiyama’s shopping *****, the Kimino forest and near the Tongetsu-kyo bridge. Then take your time to walk to the bamboo grove via Tenryo-ji shrine. They say it best to get to the grove early to beat the tourists, but it rained in the morning, so we took our time and got to the grove about lunch-time. While crowded, it wasn’t as packed as what we thought it would be, given it was a Sunday and also ‘golden week’ (maybe people were eating lunch). We also walked to and visited the Nison-in temple that was recommended by Miki; she highlighted the moss that covered a lot of the grounds; a very worthwhile diversion and IMHO better than the Okochi Sanso Garden we also visited). Had a late lunch in the local area then walked to JR’s Saga-Arashiyama stn; ¥220 to JR’s Inari stn (simple transfer at JR Kyoto stn) with the Fushimi Inari shrine entrance across the road. The place is pricey, but we’re glad we stayed here.

With his birthday surprise, I tried to book a hotel in secret to him and considered a hotel with a color 々, but finally decided to come here. I felt that the hospitality of the staff, including the receptionist, was great. First of all, I had a surprise meeting by email at the stage after the reservation. I ordered a balloon on the Internet and asked me to arrange it in the form that I arrived at the hotel the day before, but I accepted it well and received it properly. On the day, we asked earlier than check-in time and left our accommodation luggage and birthday present. I asked you to leave a present at the foot of the balloon, but the front staff confirmed the plan quite carefully. I was very happy to be able to accompany the anxiety of surprise. Originally, the staff seems to be attending the room and introducing the room, but I think it's better to go up with two people this time. All the introduction of the room was done at the front desk. When I entered the room, the original fantasy atmosphere of the room was combined, and it was finished more than I imagined, and the surprise was made to tear. The cake prepared was also moved to a beautiful dish and made a candle, and carried it to the room at the scheduled time, but I was impressed with the tea. I had an unforgettable memory, thank you very much. I was reading a bad word of mouth before booking, so I would like to express my impressions about you this time. ① The bath plug is loose and even if it accumulates, it decreases freely. Similar things happened here, but when the angle of the plug is played, it has accumulated firmly. It seemed to be a problem on the guest side. ② The size of the room clothes is small I brought my room clothes on the day because I saw the word of mouth here. Therefore, I did not have a room suit in my hand and I could not confirm the size. I had a grass shoe, and I had a big leg while I was a woman, so I struggled to wear it, but I had a disposable slipper in the closet right at the entrance. If you like me, it seems that there is no problem using it. ③ Breakfast is cold. The side dishes were not warm. But I realize that these side dishes are cold and not a problem, and the taste is delicious. It was warm about things that were not delicious unless they were warm such as rice and miso soup. ④ The desk to eat breakfast is low. But the table is high and the room's landscape seems to be damaged. I enjoyed the atmosphere of the whole room and wanted to enjoy the room relaxing, so it was better than having an unnaturally high table. I think my dining table in my home is good, but I couldn't understand why I put a ketch on the hotel table for a few nights... ⑤ The window is big but there is no curtain so it is dazzling in the morning ⑥ There is no TV so I have time. About two things here, it is the taste of this hotel that the window is big and there is no TV. Fantastic room with large windows and open feeling. I don't dare to put a TV to forget the ukiyo and taste the fantastic space slowly. This is written on the hotel HP. It would be my own problem that I didn't check in advance. I enjoyed the time flowing slowly because there was no TV and I was able to refresh. Also, there is a curtain for the curtain! Did you overlook it, the button to close the curtain is on the pillow. I think it would have been nice to ask the front desk if it was dazzling. It was a very nice space.

There are many things to like about this hotel but let me start with the most important- its people. I must give special thanks to the Front Office Manager- Yuki. On one of the nights, I had unfortunately developed a high fever- coming from abroad, I was in an anxious state about the care I may receive or what my next steps should be. All the hospitals in the surrounding area were full and could not accept walk ins. We rang the front desk and the manager Yuki reassured us that he would assist in ensuring I received proper medical attention asap. He made a few calls to his personal network and sure enough within minutes he had secured us a slot at a local hospital, arranging everything for us to ensure we were attended to immediately by the hospital staff and effectively treated. He went out of his way to help arrange the transport and did it all in the most warm, friendly demeanour. Just interacting with him had put me at ease and the extent he went to help was incredible. I had never experienced such personalised care from one of the hotel staff in my life and have stayed at multiple properties both locally and globally- Thank you Yuki, you were truly amazing and I hope to see you in Singapore! Location wise the hotel is situated pretty centrally - you've got access to multiple convenient stores, train station, bus stops and the area is relatively quiet and peaceful. Rooms were spacious enough and clean too.

Resi Stay Nishijin

Nijo Castle Kyoto|1.92km from Kyoto Chirin Chirin, Nijojo Delivery Center
We had mixed reviews of this accomodation Pros - was a very large room two small doubles and a bunk perfect for families. Amenities are great with wifi, lots of kitchen utensils, stove, tea and coffee supplied, toothbrushes available, washing machine and tablets are provided with an inbuilt dryer system in the bathroom. Bathroom and shower area was also spacious. Beds are on the okay side but could be softer. The area itself is nice and quiet with a bus stop right out from we utilised every day, supermarket and Lawsons are across the road and you feel very safe. Would recommend for families. Cons - check in is in a different location 20minute taxi away so we had to catch a train to the check in office when arriving in Kyoto from Osaka, then a taxi to the accomodation after this which chewed up a few hours as we had to wait 45min in addition to check in due to busyness of the office. The area is a bit out of the way of everything next time I might consider staying at a different resi stay location closer to sights and facilities like shops etc. All the restaurants in the area seem to not open for breakfast until 11am so we had to have McDonald’s if we didn’t want to cook or travel too far for breakfast as we have a toddler (early riser). Same occurred at dinner time a lot of restaurants didn’t seem to be open the Monday or Tuesday we were there or opened too late for us (we travelled with a four year old). Our last disappointment was resi stay apparently have a strict not noise at night policy however another room partied until about 3am but there is no front desk or after hours phone number to call to complain / get the noise to stop. Was very frustrating as walls were very thin so we didn’t sleep very well. Overall we would stay with Resi Stay again but at another location due to Nishijin being a bit too out of the way for us.

It ’s really good. I also wrote a little red book for this hotel. I knew before the trip to Japan that the hotel rooms were very small, so I was prepared for it. Unexpectedly, this hotel has a huge space, and it will open in 2019, and the decoration is brand new. I booked this girlfriends triple room with 43 square meters! There is a separate porch with a door, a wet and dry toilet, a bathtub in the shower room can lie flat, and a dining table next to three people's luggage! Location📍 Located in the Karasuma-Oike area of Kyoto, next to Nijo Castle attractions. It is a 7-minute walk from Karasuma Oike Subway Station. There are countless bus stops nearby. It is very convenient to take various buses to various attractions. It is only two or three stations to Xinjingji Commercial Street in the city center. There are two large family and 711 convenience stores near the hotel. Our breakfast is often settled here. There is also a supermarket called Fresco, which is particularly complete and cheaper than convenience stores. It is patronized by locals and there are many fresh fruits. Hotel environment: The hotel walks in a small alley for two or three minutes, and it is particularly quiet at night without any noise. The decoration is super new! Super clean! Room facilities and toilets are my favorites. A shower room just tops the entire bathroom of another hotel. After a shower, you can comfortably take a bath in the bathtub, and the fatigue of the day is eliminated. Small refrigerator, tea bar, fast heating, hair dryer, Pola toiletries. Service attitude 💼 The front desk is changing every day, but every day is smiling. On the first day, we were not very familiar with it. I asked the lady's tour route casually. I did not expect that she took out an oversized map, wrote and painted for us, and checked the information on the computer. She explained half of it. For many hours, I was in a hurry. They go to work at 9 o'clock every day. The next day we got up for breakfast and wanted to use the microwave. The brother at the front desk was afraid that we would get up too early and no one served. We actually moved the microwave used by our employees to our room at night. He was startled! Stayed in this hotel for a total of three days and played Kyoto all over. I didn't want to go at all. It was so happy! You must come to live!

The room is clean, with a microwave oven, washing machine (with 2 laundry beads) and drying racks for the convenience of tourists. A 17-minute walk from Shijo Karasuma Station, 700 yen by taxi. There is a bus stop ”Fu Tingqian” within a 6-minute walk. But the signal platform can go to Arashiyama, You can go to Kiyomizu Temple after passing the traffic lights. There is no cleaning service during the stay, I just hope that the garbage can be collected. There are free bottled water, tea and coffee bags, but only for the day of check-in. I can only get one copy after staying for three days, which feels a bit of a loss.

It is located on the north corner of the street as you walk west from Karasuma Oike Street. The reception is on the second floor. When I first stayed there, there was no elevator so I had to walk up the stairs. In fact, you can use the elevator by using the night passage on the first floor. The staff at check-in seemed unfriendly, but the two staff members who replaced me were very kind and courteous. There is no electric kettle in the room, but you can rent one at the front desk. No drink service in the room. There is no problem with the room itself, but the lighting is dark. The large public bath on the first floor was empty and comfortable. I used it twice, once in the evening and once in the morning. There are no scales or hair conditioners. Overall, I had the impression that the service was minimal. However, considering the accommodation fee and location, it's not bad at all.

The room is big enough, the transportation is quite convenient, and the facilities are relatively old. After all, it is a building in the 1980s. Just across from Nijo Castle. Depending on the attractions that need to be visited, whether everyone thinks it is convenient is a matter of opinion. Members can check out at two o'clock. There is a shuttle bus to and from Kyoto Station, and the official website has a fixed departure time.
