Guest UserSanpeiso was one of the highlights of our trip to Japan. The ryokan beautifully preserves the atmosphere of traditional Japan while offering excellent comfort and hospitality. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel genuinely welcome and took great care of every detail throughout our stay.
The room was spacious, spotless, and overlooked a peaceful garden, creating a very relaxing atmosphere. The onsen was exceptional — the hot spring water felt wonderful after a day of sightseeing, and the entire bathing area was quiet and beautifully maintained.
Both dinner and breakfast were served in traditional Japanese style and were outstanding. Every dish was carefully prepared, beautifully presented, and showcased seasonal ingredients. It felt like a true cultural experience rather than simply a meal.
What impressed us most was the authentic character of the ryokan. Unlike many modernized properties, Sanpeiso retains the charm and elegance of a classic Japanese inn. The combination of attentive service, excellent cuisine, serene surroundings, and high-quality hot springs made our stay unforgettable.
If you are looking for an authentic ryokan experience in Atami, I highly recommend Sanpeiso. We would gladly return on our next visit to Japan.

The best hotel in Atami! On the day of check-in and check-out, you get one free taxi ride to the station – just tell the driver your destination and you can hop off without paying. The rooms are spacious and come with a private hot spring tub, and the minibar is complimentary. The public onsen also offers free drinks. Dinner is included in the room rate, but I'd recommend skipping it since Atami has plenty of great restaurants. Breakfast is very international and suitable for Chinese tastes. I'll definitely choose this hotel again next time I'm in Atami!

Guest UserThe room offered a fantastic sea view. The public hot spring area showed great attention to detail; the hotel provided each guest with a special tote bag for their toiletries to take to the baths. The bath facilities were comprehensive, and it wasn't crowded during my soak, making for a peaceful and comfortable experience.
The only minor letdown was that my stay coincided with the day after a public holiday, so the room rate was higher than on weekdays. It would have offered even better value for money at a regular price.
Based on my previous stays, the guest rooms are well-equipped and clean, and the balconies come with private pine-wood hot tubs. Overall, both the facilities and the hot spring amenities are excellent. The only slight drawback is that the check-in guidance at the front desk isn't very clear, and it's easy to get lost between the two accommodation buildings. All in all, the hot spring experience is outstanding, and it's definitely worth staying if you want to enjoy a hot spring bath with a sea view. I'd recommend avoiding peak holiday periods when booking to save a significant amount on room fees.

WulaitingfanzengThe hotel's facilities are really great. I chose a huge tatami room all to myself, though people from my country might not be used to sleeping on tatami. The only downside to the room was that the air conditioning was a bit noisy, but thankfully there's a door, and closing it helped a lot. Both the room and the restaurant face the sea and the harbor, so the view is absolutely unparalleled. As for the location, it's a bit on the outskirts with no commercial areas nearby; it takes about a 10-minute walk to reach dining and shopping spots. All hotel guests receive a complimentary hot spring ticket. Their hot spring also faces the sea. The infinity hot spring pool is definitely the biggest highlight! The entire hot spring area is very modern and beautifully designed. However, it's spread across 7 floors, and you have to undress upstairs and downstairs, with shoe storage and showering not in the same area, which makes the process a bit confusing and overwhelming.

Excellent hotel.
Beautiful, clean, traditional.
The onsen was beautiful with a view of their garden. The water was heated perfectly with immaculately clean water. All amenities were offered when you stepped out into the changing room, ear buds, lotion, hair perfume, shampoo and conditioner. As you exit to your room there are two massage chairs to enjoy.
The room we stayed in was perfect, It had a view of the bay, a big balcony, and three separate rooms. I was traveling with my son and this afforded me a private room to change my clothes and be separated while we slept. Freshly pressed kimonos were provided for the Onsen or/and to attend breakfast in.
Now I'll talk about the highlight.!
The breakfast buffet and dinner were included in the very reasonable price. The breakfast was extensive with fish, eggs, yogurt, homemade delicious jams, salads, fresh fruit, natto, sausages, rolls, bread, pastries, a coffee machine with choice of lattes, cappuccino, etc, a juice machine, fresh milk from famous Tanna dairy, and more! It was amazing!
Dinner was also delicious, changing every night with selections such as broiled fish set, fried chicken set, steak set, all were seasoned well and perfectly cooked. All came with soup, rice, main entree and dessert.
The staff were welcoming, kind and caring, friendly. The manager even sent me a special note about a piece of art I was curious about.
Highly, highly recommend this Ryokan.
I never wanted to leave.
It's just outside of Atami, in the hills, beautiful location.
Go, relax, nurture yourself, I did 😊🥰

This place was surprisingly good! The scenery is indeed beautiful and the rooms are spacious. What really stood out was the more extensive self-service drinks available on the first floor – a very thoughtful touch. I'll definitely be back next time. Highly recommend!

The hotel was very clean, and the food was absolutely delicious. The hot springs were also wonderful, probably because it was a weekday and not crowded. I highly recommend getting the dinner plan. For breakfast, we were able to have it in our room, which allowed for a very relaxed start to the day.
As other reviewers mentioned, the坂道 (steep hill) up to the hotel was quite something. We went by car, and at one point, we encountered another car coming down in a curving tunnel. Since uphill traffic has priority, the other car had to back up the hill to let us pass. After arriving, we enjoyed walking to the shopping street in front of the station, but on the way back to the hotel, we took a taxi from the station. Even the taxi driver radioed ahead to another taxi waiting at the top of the hill to hold their position before starting the ascent. It would be great if there were traffic lights at the top and bottom. There aren't many cars coming and going, so we just hoped there wouldn't be any oncoming traffic on our way back.

Only 9 minutes from Atami Station, no stairs all the way down the slope, check out there is a shuttle bus up the mountain. Guests staying can choose their preferred yukata style. Breakfast is a buffet form, dinner is more old-fashioned Japanese food package, the taste is quite satisfactory. The hotel has more Japanese guests than foreign guests, who may only have 3 or 4 groups. The rooms are spacious and offer tatami-laying services, the sea view is excellent. The day of the fireworks festival will also open the rooftop for guests to watch, the rooftop is completely unobstructed very clear!

I stayed at this guesthouse in Atami last December and had a pleasant experience overall. The location is quite convenient, as it’s close to Atami Station. There is a short uphill walk to reach the guesthouse, but it’s still manageable.
Overall, I would rate the guesthouse 8/10. The main thing to note is that, as it’s a guesthouse, the bathroom and toilet are shared. There is also an onsen available on-site, though it requires an additional fee (which is not expensive). The onsen operates on a time schedule since it’s shared between male and female guests.
The host was friendly and welcoming. I didn’t really get the chance to use facilities like the dining area or the rooftop, but the dining area has a balcony with a nice sea view, which looked great.
Another big plus is that the guesthouse is within walking distance of Atami Heiwa-dōri Shopping Street, making it very convenient for food and shopping.

Guest UserDefinitely worth the price for an onsen hotel. The ocean view and tatami style bedroom are the highlight for my stay here! There is free bus shuttle service scheduled by the hotel, as a solo traveller who doesn’t drive, this definitely is a plus point! Will book my stay at here next time when I visit Atami :)
