El Royale Hotel - Near Universal Studios Hollywood

Universal City Los Angeles|2.62km from Christ Chapel of the Valley
I booked 2 days at El Royale via Hotels.com. The price point met my needs. I landed in LA around 7:40pm. When I was able to check messages, I noticed that the hotel tried to reach me twice asking about my arrival . I texted them back that I was arriving at 9pm. Upon my arrival, Javier greeted us and then the manager Roberto came to get my ID and credit. Oddly, they asked me to email them my confirmation. I did so, but noticed that it was noted that the confirmation was canceled. Roberto went to his back office and took some time before he came back to run my card. I signed off on 3 receipts but he never gave me one. Yet, I noticed that the price was much higher than I expected. Next morning, I checked my booking via the app. The price was much less than than I was charged. Hotels.com stated that I canceled the booking at 7:29PST, That is not true. I would have never canceled the booking. I was in the air to LA. I was on my way. Why would I do that? I had everything set for the weekend. Hotels.com proceeded to tell me via Twitter DM that in order for me to cancel that I would have needed to provide my confirmation number, telephone number, and last 4 digits of the credit card used. Hotel gets that information. I had booked a Deluxe Queen Room with two beds. My brother and I were led to a room with a king bed. What?? They were able to make the futon in the living room area into a bed. That worked. I did have a conversation the next day with Roberto, and I sent him the screen shot of the reservation and dollar amount. He said he was going to investigate. Never heard back. Upon leaving, I asked if I needed to do anything upon check out. I handed in the key. Nothing else was needed. On the phone with hotels.com, and I explained the situation. They called the hotel and they are now saying that they charged me as a walk in since my booking was canceled. What? They knew I was coming. How could they say I was a walk in. I believe that since the hotel had not heard from me that they canceled my booking. They thought that I was going to be a no show. Plus, it was a busy weekend, so they upped the price by putting me in as a walk in. The hotel is nice. It was clean and in a good area. Yet, this experience between Hotels.com and them has given me pause. I've asked the hotel for an itemized receipt 3x, and they have yet to produce it. I've asked to speak with a supervisor at Hotels.com to resolve this issue, as well. No one has called back. This has been a huge disappointment. I do not recommend.

Very good, will stay next time. In particular, the hotel can purchase tickets for Universal Studios for a discount of $ 25 each. This place is convenient for parking ($ 15 per night) and is close to Universal Studios and the Avenue of Stars.

Great location super clean and safe, They do have breakfast included with your stay. Pool was closed due to COVID 19
Colony Inn

The place is pretty basic, but functional. I like to say it’s about two notches better than Motel 6. Pros: -Location: About a ten-minute walk from restaurants on Magnolia and Lankershim. Major grocery store also in walking distance. Easy access to freeways. Valley Village Park also in walking distance - great for morning or sunset walks -Free parking -Free wifi Cons: -Not enough mod-cons. Outlets are sp**** -Room space is good but layout is not used to its best potential (see pics). Pls consider updating the desk and chairs. There weren’t even hangars in the bureau. The lighting could be improved too; consider using lamps instead of canned lighting -If you’re a light/sensitive sleeper, bring earplugs. You can hear the traffic from Vineland Ave. The hotel is under the flight path of BUR airport. I can’t comment about neighbor noise, but it was quiet during my stay (save the traffic and airplane noise) If you’re ok with the bare necessities, Colony is a solid stay. Were it not for its location, I would have rated lower.

I specifically wanted to let corporate and the hotel know that the young lady working at the breakfast buffet deserves extra recognition. The hotel has families going to Universal Studios much more than businessmen, so they are really hitting the breakfast buffet hard. She is very polite and was working very very hard every minute of the morning to keep the buffet stocked. Also, our check in lady was very nice and polite and explained the weird parking situation clearly. I am a Choice Hotels club member and booked as such and I am VERY disappointed that I was not sent a ”review your stay” email. I think it's very lame that you can't leave a review on the Choice Hotels web page. I don't think I believe their ”verified guest stay reviews.” I think maybe Choice Hotels only post the reviews they want to show. Therefore, I strongly suggest you continue to use TripAdvisor to read reviews of hotels. Our stay was just fine as a launch place for our day at Universal Studios. I hope the buffet lady receives some proper praise for doing her job so well.

Whenever I’m back in LA I always stay at the Garland… It’s central, it’s beautifully run and for Los Angeles, the prices are actually reasonable! Despite that I’m not an enormous fan of 70s retro, I actually kinda love what they’ve done with the place!🧡 The rooms are delightful, comfortable, the beds are perfect… Not too soft just firm enough.. Love the Lather brand products they feature in the bathroom… Everything feels luxurious without one’s having spent a kings ransom. Many many many years ago I recall it was the Howard Johnsons… After all those years and several incarnations, it’s evolved once again, it’s immensely popular and like I said, very very well run.. The staff at the reception desk are always helpful, welcoming and courteous, and the Front Yard restaurant is excellent!!
