Hillgrove Hotel, Leisure & Spa

Just spent one night at Hillgrove and one night was plenty. We booked the Honeymoon Suite...which turned out to be a room NOT a suite...I queried with reception but were told that room WAS the suite! It's not. . The DBB meal package we booked which is shown on their website included a glass of wine or beer each...the waitress and supervisor knew nothing of this offer and even though I showed them the website they refused to honour the deal...so we paid for the wine . When we got the bill it had our room number on it and we signed for amount...only to be phoned from reception 10 minutes later to come down and pay as we hadn't left a credit card on our account (we weren't asked to) ...it couldn't wait until checkout we had to come down then! It was quite embarrassing as it looked to all the people sitting in reception like we had walked out without paying The room although is supposed to be the height of romantic luxury and advertises mood lighting at the freestanding Bath had one light flickering, one light blinding bright and one light broken....the taps didn't match...one looked like a cheap kitchen tap....its poor for what is supposed to be the best room in the hotel. We brought all this to the attention of the duty manager but on checkout this morning ....it was just the normal "how was your stay"....it will be our last stay was my answer!

Attended with family for communion celebration dinner. Despite high numbers being served food was lovely and plenty of it. Entertainment was layed on for kids which was great. Serving staff were excellent and couldn’t do enough to make the day extra special 👏👏

Staff were fabulous so helpful with the kids. Breakfast was lovely bar food very nice. Room had good space lovely playground n pool. Clean facilities nice touches around hotel like water fruit etc. got a good rate Second time going and be back again soon

We arrived at the hotel and were given a room on the ground floor. We had booked a family room for 2 nights. Upon entering the room we noticed a strong smell of stale cigarette smoke. The windows had been left open in the room so I'm assuming the cleaning staff noticed it too. We went to the front desk to ask for a different room and were not apologised to regarding this. We were moved to a much smaller room down the hall which smelled a lot better. However, my mum is a wheelchair user so it was difficult to have her chair in the room and move around comfortably. The room while clean was very dated and dingy. The shower rail was completely rusted and the shower was running hot and cold. As the shower was accessed by stepping up into the bathtub, my mum could not have a shower during our stay. As a result of this, we decided to leave after one night of our two night stay. The breakfast was mediocre but sufficient. Staff were pleasant but the facilites were so poor based on the rating of this hotel. I really feel a manager should have spoken to us regarding our initial room and the fact we decided not to continue our stay. It was an overall very disappointing experience and we wont be back.

The Hill Grove hotel is a really lovely place to visit and, my self and my husband stayed there recently, it's great value for money and very conveniently tucked away at the start of the monaghan town. The room was spotless and very well presented. We enjoyed the bar food and the breakfast had a great selection. I recommend this hotel. The pool and jacuzzi and steam room and sauna were all good too. The staff were very helpful and friendly,, 👏👏

great venue for a hen weekend, stay were all very helpful and friendly and large interconnecting rooms. There was lots of option in the town for places to go in the evening and food at the hotel was lovely

Myself and friend visited the spa and had a trea**ent as we were in Monaghan for weekend. I had the most incredible massage and facial with therapist Katie. She was so personable and gave me her full attention and I didn't feel like I was 'just another converyor' belt client like so many places these days. She tailored the trea**ent to my exact needs. I highly recommend Kate and she is a credit to the spa. My other observation is that both my friend and I agreed the spa itself is dated, tired and run down looking. Badly in need of renovations and not just putting sticky plasters over the obvious things that need fixed like peeling wallpaper paint etc.. it is also far too dark! There were no light's apart from the very dim ones on ceiling in the steam room and we had to feel our way around the walls to find a seat! The ice fountain did not work either. In summary my 4 stars are for my experience with Kate and not the spa itself and the othe staff were lovely. I would definitely return for a trea**ent with her but not for the spa experience unless alot of improvements were made. And as the trea**ent price includes the spa then that's not an option. Had a lovely family break here recently, nice room, fantastic family friendly facilities. However it's the little things that let them down as they say: like being charged €8 for a cup of tea, absolutely disgraceful altogether! Price of a pint at €6.30 is the most expensive in the north east .

Thank you very much for your help in organising our parents' wedding anniversary party! Everything was perfect from start to finish. The food was excellent, so many people commented on how beautiful it was and also on the service. It was extra special as their wedding reception was there 50 years ago! Thank you for making everything so special!
