The breakfast and restaurant were good, we didný use the pool etc.
The rooms were smelly when we came in so we had to open the windows first. floor sounded like it was gonna collapse anytime. Bathroom was OK altough a very big guy will not fit on the toilet.

The rooms are a good size. Carpet and bathroom need updating but functional. Beds are good. Restaurant has good food

Nice old time atmosphere but Contrexéville has seen livelier days ! The place feels a bit cavernous but the restaurant dinner was excellent despite a rather dry service from the majordome

This was a stop on the way down to Provence. It’s close to the motorway and easy to find. A very impressive building, it is a long walk to reception if you park in the car park. The rooms are huge, but bare, although the bed was very comfy. The staff were very friendly. The restaurant is airy and spacious, and a decent menu if nothing special. The spa is good with lots of different services, and the pool is a good size. The best thing about this hotel is walking down the massive staircase to the restaurant: it makes you feel like royalty!

From the outside, Hotel Cosmos in Contrexéville looks like Stalag 13. On the inside, it's a bit like one of the grand old hotels of Eastern Europe during the Soviet era. It has the feel of a tired old lady who needs some considerable makeup! The first view a visitor has of it is a massive dull, grey, concrete block. A coat of paint wouldn't go astray! Inside, the carpets in the public areas - stairs and (very long) corridors - are badly stained and need replacing. In the room, we suffered from clanking water pipes all night. There wasn't even a headboard on the bed - someone had just pained a black rectangle on the wall. The fitted sheet didn't fit. The pillows were tiny and lumpy. Not very inspirational. The restaurant was clean and more modern, but the serving staff were indifferent. Not unpleasant - just disinterested like they couldn't wait to go home. The food was okay, and that's about the best I can say!

It felt really like a special place, a great combination of modern elements (furniture in the dining room) in a classical building. We stayed for one night on our trip to the south of France and we loved it.
