My wife and I booked the Nikko Station Hotel II for April 13 - 15 as a non refundable reservation. This week, the US State Dept issued a Level 4 warning for all US citizens to avoid international travel due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In spite of their normal policy, the Nikko Station Hotel II made an exception due to the COVID-19 pandemic and issued a full refund. We will reschedule our trip to Japan after the pandemic passes and WILL DEFINITELY rebook at the Nikko Station Hotel II, as they have shown excellent customer service in a difficult time!

This is my third trip/adventure to Japan. I would say as a solo traveler this has to be one of the very best places I have ever stayed in when travelling around Japan. I came to Nikko np to explore the vast array of hiking trails, all of which I did, had breathtaking views and a poetic, truly majestic Japanese feel to them. I rented a car from Nasushiobara (Shinkansen) and drove across to Kinugawa. On arrival I was greeted by a host of the hotel staff, welcoming me and helping me with parking and my bags. I checked in with ease and with some broken English and Japanese on my part was led to a beautiful traditional Japanese style room overlooking the river. The service throughout was world class and made me feel both very comfortable, at home, but also special. I stayed 3 nights with half board (breakfast and dinner), both truly amazing and served with grace and politeness. On the first evening’s dinner one of the serving staff took the time to speak with me and allowed me to share some of my recent experiences/photos etc whilst preparing dinner - this was most welcome, especially as I had been travelling alone for over a week. The location of the onsen hotel is about 60 mins drive to some of the most sought after walks in the np. Very easy to access by car and excellent roads. The accommodation itself is a mix between very traditional Japanese resort and original/boutique Ryokan. The private and public onsen’s are fantastic and a well deserved rest-bite after a long days hiking! Having been to some of the most popular ryokan’s in Japan; Iwaso, Claska etc, this came as a very nice surprise and at an affordable rate without any compromise. The hotel environment is really comfortable, full of design, and very integrated with the local environment. The room is larger than other hotels in Japan and very clean. There is a pantry where you can make free coffee/tea. The only drawback is that there is no restaurant, only vending machines are provided, which is more inconvenient if there is no taxi. The parking lot is also very large.

The room is quite large, the beds are all large double beds, the tables, chairs and sofas are also very good, there are also projectors and TVs, the kitchen is also fully equipped, including a microwave, induction cooker, and cooking utensils, so you can cook by yourself. The whole room is a big open space The room has no partitions and is not suitable for those who need privacy. Those who live on the first floor may face the noise from residents walking on the second floor. The hotel is located next to the highway, next to a small village, about a quarter of an hour's walk from Tobu Nikko Station. Although the road is not long, it is not very smooth. There is a 7-11 and a larger supermarket within three minutes. There is no front desk, check-in requires self-service, and the room has a password lock. Remember that you cannot check in before three o'clock and you cannot store your luggage. Your luggage can be stored at the station. It cost 5,100 RMB to stay for three days. The location of this hotel is very good, near the station, really very close, platform 28 is at the door of the hotel, the 26th station is about five minutes walk, and then the balcony can directly see Lake Zhongzen Temple, the hot springs are quite satisfactory, Breakfast is a rich buffet whether it is a buffet or a single meal. If there are few people in the hotel, it will be a single meal. The pork chops for dinner are really tender. Although the dishes are few, they are very delicate. The hotel staff are very enthusiastic and will recommend Attractions, it just snowed on the first night! Very happy.

Having only just arrived a few days earlier in Japan - this was our first experience of a ryokan . We didn’t know what to expect but it turned out to be a fantastic experience. From choosing our own Kimono to wear around the hotel to our beautiful spacious room with wonderful views of the autumn trees behind, every detail had been thought about. The onsen was wonderful with a pool. Inside and outside. We had a private dining room where we were served the most incredible meals in beautiful Japanese ceramics of all kinds of shapes and sizes. We were attended to by the Chun, a young Vietnamese girl who was just charming, she couldn’t do enough for us and tried so hard with her English - she really made our stay.. this ryokan is also right opposite the shrines , so its a great location and right on the bus route for getting further into the hills. We really recommend this place.

It's a bit unexpected to make such a review, because the management level of this hotel should be very excellent, but this time I encountered a very unprofessional treatment. My friend and I booked two rooms together. When we arrived at the hotel, my friend (still ordinary) Ctrip member) got the key smoothly, but the store entry information I got was not my own (I am still a Ctrip Black Diamond member and Marriott member), it should be someone else's booking information, and it was only after I raised my doubts that I found out that I made a mistake, and was told that I had to rearrange the room until after 16:00 in the afternoon. When I went to get the key at 16:00, it was not done yet. At this time, I complained to the lobby manager and the solution was resolved.

Stayed during sunlight sightseeing. The lobby is large and the guests have free coffee service. The room was a clean Japanese modern room, with 3 beds, 3 small tables and chairs if you choose a Japanese style room. Wi-Fi is not available in the room. But there was trouble around the water. Even if the toilet flows many times, it is troublesome, and ”let's change the room. I need an early response.” I didn't say because I said, ”good.” If you don't use a large flash several times, the toilet paper doesn't flow. But the moment you sat, the zaser and the water flowing were a waste of toilets. Also, the bathroom was too strong in water pressure and the water was an immaciable room. It may be only this room by chance. There is no elevator in the building (lobby, bath, restaurant on the first floor). The large bath was large and the interesting explanation was that Nikko cedar was made using it. The temperature outside was 12 degrees in the spring, but the inner bath was quite wet, and the ceiling of the bathroom was high and the building was very cold. The temperature of the open-air bath was a little high, so it took a long time to get a little warmer here. When I went to the bath for the second time, the water which seemed to be a little hot came in the open-air bath, and the water seemed to be cooling, so I put hot water in the water supply when I left the bathroom and put it on the body. The women's open-air bath was under renovation and the outside cherry blossom bath was not available, and the vinyl sheet was attached at the end of the open-air bath. Therefore, it may be better to go after a little time to go to the bath main. Honestly, it was a bath that was not warm. I thought the bath in the cold was a little higher temperature. When I went out of the bath, I met with a long time ago, so I went to the bath and said, ”I was soaked all the time because I was wet.” ”Is this really a hot spring?” I said, ”It's written in colorless transparent hot springs and there.” Well, it was a meal, but the dinner was beautiful (spring, cherry blossom color, and the season of cherry blossoms). Every item 々 was handy, the taste was delicious, very satisfied, and perfect for sake. The rice was also very delicious. Breakfast was a healthy Japanese meal, and the rice was delicious and I always had a refill. The hospitality and care of the staff were very good inn.

* 5 star service from Hitomi and make sure to upgrade to all you can eat dinner/breakfast dining option. Booked this hotel for a stay in Mid November and after getting off of train we caught the bus here a little after sundown. The autumn leaves are really outstanding-almost every picture is a gorgeous post card. Bus driver asked where we are headed to and told him ”Kinugawa Onsen Hotel” . Took around 10 min to arrive and we were dropped off in front of hotel parking lot. Waited in a short line to check in and front desk service referred us to ”HITOMI” her name on tag in hiragana characters. She whipped up 2 page map with room information, pertaining elevator diagram and hotel keys. Make sure to pay careful instructions about onsen and buffet times- free soft serve ice cream and snacks until 6pm in lobby/ free drinks, coffee, tea until 10pm. FYI- best soft serve in Japan Hokkaido milk...yummy!!! 5 golden stars to HITOMI- top notch and friendly service. She urged us to be aware of emergency exits on our floor. While you are dining they will bring out futons so when you return- soft futons are waiting for you! The room is a traditional tatami mat with table and cushions. It is welcoming with snacks, complementary bottled water and a hot tea station. Room safe in closet also included were yukata robes for him and her. Ugh, wonderful amenities, tooth brush, a few toiletries -worry free stay. After visiting the onsen - kind of stressful for a foreigner like me. Not used to being naked with other ladies but in reality I was invisible- no shame at all. We headed down to the all you can eat dinner. We had 90 min-more than enough time to eat from 7:30 to 9pm. The spread was adequate with dishes from Japan and a few we recognized. Tempura made to order, musubi bar, gelato station, bakery section, fruit bar, local dishes and drink machine both hot or cold more-more- more- too much to mention. Looked at all the diners like ravenous sharks. Lots of help staff taking away empty plates, chefs assistants re-filling the empty vessels with more foods. Orderly chaos in front of me and loving every succulent moment. I felt like Templeton in the Charlot's Web movie. Burp* UGH, rubbing my full belly and going for seconds and thirds. Repeating ” ah, ill have a year to diet” until we come back again. Super glad we upgraded to the all you can at buffet. Coming again in the morning-they open at 7am for breakfast. It ended up being a repeat but with Japanese breakfast foods too. We did an early checkout at 8am and paid our $2 onsen tax. They were nice enough to let us stay in the room until 10am if we promised to bring back both keys at that time- no issues there. First bus back to the train station arrives a little after 10 am and Hitomi came out to ask us to wait in lobby. Lobby had comfy seats and was warmer than outside. I've been to many onsen and ryokan all over Japan, and Hoshinoyado truly stands out. The food was spectacular—every bite was truly delicious and featured the local specialties, and everything was styled with seasonal artistry. I can say without hesitation that the breakfast was the best I've ever eaten in Japan. Plus, our table looked out over a shady Japanese garden that was knee-deep in moss, with a sparkling stream. The inn and room were both pristine, with no shabby corners, and the public bath was inviting—very clean, with every amenity you can imagine, and not blisteringly hot. I've seen everything there is to see in Nikko at least once, but I'd go again just to stay at Hoshinoyado.
