Bio Hotel Raphael - Relais & Châteaux

Navona Rome|0.1km from La Scaletta degli Artisti
We're still trying to reconcile the fact that this hotel is a Relais & Chateaux property because the experience was so extremely mediocre. We've stayed in properties around the world and have never encountered such a three-star property. The best way to characterize it is if a Radisson Blu tried to be a luxury hotel. But rather than provide impressions, I'll just share some specifics: Pros: - good central location - quiet Cons: - politely, indifferent service: before we came, we asked them about the parking situation because we were arriving in a car. They gave us two options, self-park a little ways a way or the hotel could park it for us. We asked the hotel to park it, but they did not warn us that they are on a one way street that is difficult to navigate, so we ended up going around in circles (Google Maps tried to lead us down an alley that was half the width of a standard car). When I got out of the car to ask, the front desk was astonishingly indifferent, also pointing out that the only way to arrive at the hotel was to drive through a street that was prohibited for non-locals (which is different than the response we got via email). - the room: tiny and felt like a radisson blu. there is no coffee machine in the room, only a cheap hotpot and teabags. (not a big deal but this should be standard issue at this level). capsule coffee is available by the front desk. - shampoo and soap are in cheap plastic dispensers that are attached to the bathroom walls. You squeeze the bottle to get some. The quality of both were unremarkable. The shampoo and conditioner. I understand that small bottles are wasteful. However, at this level, there are better ways to present this. They might take a lesson from Aman properties, who puts branded products in very nice dispensers. - bathtub is very narrow and the ”rain forest” shower on one end is attached so far to the edge that you have to stand partly on the sloped edge to fully stand under the water. - box of tissues was empty except for a couple tissues stuffed in at the top (which shows that the cleaning person knew it was empty) - the bathroom was so small that the towel holder was right next to the shower head inside the glass enclosure. - the bed/mattress: the hotel has the weirdest feature ever, which is that it has an outdated adjustable feature that ”lets” you move the head, foot and middle of the mattress. It's a feature that no one looks for in a hotel bed, and because the technology is so old, it's not great. Long story short, the mattress actually never laid exactly flat, so I had the most uncomfortable sleep. The foot of the bed was a little raised, so it felt like the middle of my body was in a hole. On top of that, the bed had an extremely soft mattress pad (as if you're sleeping on a bunch of comforters). If you like a firm bed, this is a non-starter. The only explanation for this hotel still being a Relais & Chateaux is that they have not done an inspection in a long time

Dom Hotel Roma - Preferred Hotels & Resorts

Navona Rome|0.45km from La Scaletta degli Artisti
The staff at the desk is friendly and I'm hard pressed to say anything else that's positive. The reviews I've read online emphasize the desirability of the location--and ok, it's not bad. But I can only conclude that th management of this hotel is entirely clueless about giving travelers what they need. The dark ”mood” lighting in the rooms is overdone, and should be an option with dimmers. There was simply not enough light making the rooms depressing and non-functional. My husband couldn't see to shave and I had no light for putting on makeup. The many mirrors in the room used smokey dark glass so I could hardly see to put on clothing. No tea kettle or coffeemaker in the room. The breakfast is beyond awful. None of the basics you need to get the day started--like toast. The surly waiter seemed very proud, though, of a thumbnail (not exaggerating) size ”waffle” with a miniscule shred of slaw. Also provided a tiny quiche-like object, tiny biquits and a heavy doughy croissant. (Please, leave those to the French!) At least a 10-minute wait for coffee or cappuchino. A ”fruit salad” that consisted of one large chunk of rock hard pear and 2 grapes. A thimble was provided for yogurt. I needed more to eat and ordered an omlette (for an extra 14 euros--whereas at the budget hotel we stayed in earlier, the omlette was free). It was so oversalted I could barely eat it. Don't believe the hype about the ”stylish guests.” People showed up for breakfast in sloppy sweats, men with their b--t cracks showing. And a boombox blasts rock music during breakfast so forget having a conversation. The breakfast room turns into a privately run restaurant at night--something we though would be a convenience. But one meal there was enough! The food was horrible. Overly fussy and again, oversalted. We wanted great Italian food, and it certainly isn't offered here. Oddly, the thing most complain about for this hotel--the terroism squad keeping guard out front--didn't bother us a bit. Overall, this is not worth the money, and put a damper on our stay in Rome. The three stars are for the friendly desk folk.

Rose Garden Palace Roma by Omnia Hotels

Via Veneto Rome|1.9km from La Scaletta degli Artisti
We enjoyed a 3 night stay at Rose Palace. The front desk gave us tired travelers a warm welcome that made us relax immediately. Our room overlooked the back of the American Embassy with guards stationed outside 24/7 so it was definitely safe. The hotel is a little off the beaten path from the usual touristy spots in Rome but in a very quiet area. The room was very clean. We had 3 in our room and the 3rd person had to sleep on a full size pull out couch. It was comfy for a pull out (you couldn’t feel the bar under the mattress) but unless you put up the bed every day the only place to sit were the beds. It had a small fridge and the bathroom was updated but limited on counter space around the sink. The buffet breakfast was geared toward a variety of tastes. Scrambled eggs, a variety of pastries, orange juice, fresh fruit, yogurt, cereal, cheese, meat, etc. When the weather was nice we enjoyed sitting outside in the garden. There is a tiny grocery store called Co-op around the corner where you can buy the basics. Also on the next block is an ATM in the alcove of the bank entrance that seemed secure to use. Reading older reviews we thought there was a restaurant in the hotel serving dinner but it turned out to just be a small bar. So we walked a couple of blocks north and ate at Cesarina and enjoyed a good meal and friendly staff. There were a lot of other restaurants to pick from in a 2-3 block radius. The ones on Via Vittorio Veneto appeared to be more expensive than the ones northeast of the hotel. There is a taxi stand a couple of blocks away and we used both Uber and inTaxi for rides back to the hotel.

Just returned from 5 days at this hotel and found it pretty good in most respects. This was our first trip to Rome. Firstly, location is excellent, just a few minutes walk from Piazza Navona, Pantheon, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain and the Vatican and an easy bus ride to the Colosseum. It is an unpretentious hotel in a quiet side street, no frills but the rooms are a good size, comfortable and very clean, reception staff really helpful (especially the lovely Silvia) and the continental breakfast is perfectly adequate to set you up for the day. But the main point is that the quiet cobbled streets in this immediate area come alive in the evening with dozens of little restaurants, so not only do you have a wide choice of places to eat nearby but the level of competition keeps the prices very reasonable, although you can easily find up-market places if you want to. If I had to find a negative it would be that the fancy-looking shower didn’t work very well, also that they turn the heating off at the end of April so it can be a little chilly in the rooms in early May, when we went. Try to avoid Room 1 which was particularly cold at this time of year and seemed inferior to the upper floor rooms but is charged at the same price. Overall, would I book this hotel again? Yes, it is good value and very well located for touring this beautiful city.

I knew this was an older hotel, which I didn't mind...it added to it's charm. The room was very basic, but clean. There is no elevator so we carried our luggage up 4 flights of winding stairs. The location is centrally located which is what we wanted because it was our first trip and we wanted to be close to all the ”highlights” of Rome. I'm giving Hotel Teatro Pace an ”average” rating instead of ”poor” because of the positives (the sound of the church bells of the nearby basilica, the coffee shop around the corner where we got our cappuccino and cornetti for only 4 Euro for 2 people in the mornings, and the nightlife that magically appeared right outside the hotel door at night). What I wasn't happy with was our bill. We stayed for 4 nights this October. Our bill was nearly $800 Euro, that did not include breakfast. It was just my husband and I. I was told it was because of city taxes, but that still seemed high to me for the kind of room we stayed in...like I said, it was basic, no frills, just a double bed and bathroom. We stayed in similar rooms throughout Italy and it was half that price. We also stayed in beautiful rooms and even a winery in Florence...the nightly rate for those were just over 200 Euros...I expected to pay that for the luxury quality of the rooms. So I just felt like Teatro Pace ripped us off and overcharged.

We stayed here from 22-25 September! It was easy to find, Instructions from Anna were easy to follow, It was clean and the perfect base for us to explore! Perfectly situated for most sites, we walked 36.5. Miles over the weekend as well as using the metro, train and Big red hop on hop off buses. When we come back we would definitely stay again!

We have just returned from a wonderful 4 night break at this hotel which was located a few minutes walk from Piazza Navona. On arrival, we were upgraded to a suite which was a large comfortable space. We had a living area with large TV, sofa, fridge and a lovely coffee machine and a lovely double bedroom, bathroom with a powerful rain shower. The staff were welcoming and friendly. Breakfast was in the restaurant next door and was plentiful with fresh fruit, yoghurt, eggs, cold meats, cheese and an array of cakes and crossaints. There was noise from the bars outside but to be honest once the doors and shutters were closed we didn't notice the noise. All in all we had a wonderful stay and will definitely use this hotel when we return to Rome. Thank you Navona Palace for a perfect stay.
