Porta Hotel del Lago

We LOVR the Porta Hotel in Antigua so we decided to stay at the Porta in Pana on this visit. It was a pleasant hotel in a good location with a pleasant staff. The room was spacious but dated. They could definitely use an update. Likewise the restaurant was adequate but not a stand out. Breakfast was better than dinner. The pool area gets a thumbs up.

This hotel is amazing. I have been to 60 countries and stayed in many hotels, and this hotel was top tier. I will come back and I will stay in this hotel. The service, security, location, comfort, cleanliness, pool, price, just amazing. A suite is a must too. The views of the Lake are amazing.

We loved our Head Concierge ABBY. All the staff was good. Only problem was our challenge communicating with everyone except Abby, because very few people know ANY English.

LIKES: The location is excellent, right on the lake, and all rooms face the lake. Staff/service was good/average, as staff was generally accommodating and eager to assist, as needed. Antonio in valet/front door was particularly eager to assist and was so nice (star employee in my opinion). In addition, the woman at the egg station knows how to make great eggs/omelets! Overall, the breakfast buffet was pretty good. My junior suite room and bathroom (421), although dated, was huge and nicely appointed and very comfortable, including the chaise couch. It was also clean. The suites have A/C, and it worked great; however, I don't think the regular rooms have A/C. Limited noise issues in the room. You will hear the music from the pool area, but, it shuts off at around 10pm. I also could hear toilets flushing and showers running, and people walking in the suite above, but those noises rarely bother me. DISLIKES: Although staff and service were good/average, I never felt welcomed, as it all felt a little mechanical and emotionless as if they were just going through the motions. It could have been a language issue, though, as English is not widely spoken by staff, although they do try! The gym was a let down for weight training; it's very small and only has a 2-side universal standup machine (looked new) and dumbbells in 5lbs increments from 5 to 25. The universal machine was not smooth and only had two handle attachments. In addition, the gym had no mats and only one bench.

The location of the hotel is ideal. Close to the docks and shopping. The service was excellent. Breakfast buffet delicious.
