Angelika Pallas Hotel

Stayed for 2 nights during late May, this hotel is my only choice in Igoumenitsa for years now. Overlooks the ferry port where the ships depart for Italy and is a modern building with nice enough rooms. The rooms with a balcony looking at the port are the best ones, although a bit noisy. The back side looks at the town, no nice view but certainly quieter. Walking distance to the seafront of Igoumenitsa is 5 mins and another 2 mins to the area where the ticket agencies for Italy and Corfu are located. Free and easy parking is a great advantage, as is the fact that a convenience store and a bakery/coffee shop are literally steps away from the entrance. As with every hotel the breakfast is a bit overpriced but the bakery next to the hotel offers a great and cost-effective alternative. In any case during this year's but also last year's visit, the breakfast room/restaurant of the hotel was not in use because of the pandemic. I think it is definitely value for money and it is advisable to book early, as during the summer months you may run into cases where the hotel gets full pretty quick, as a result of delays or cancellations to the ferry sailings. The staff is friendly and helpful enough although they don't seem to be trained in the hotel business.

Just got back after a week staying here, lovely hotel and main pool area, our air con room had a private pool and sea view which was amazing. The staff seemed to be not happy and several times we had to repeatedly request service for drinks and food, they were slow to respond and even slower to deliver even in quiet times. To say it’s a 5* rated hotel is a joke, we have stayed in less star and been looked after better, the biggest let down was the meals, breakfast was abysmal, not what we expected at this level, Greeks do not know how to grill bacon anyway but clearly the bacon had been over cooked as it was so tough, I asked the staff every morning if they had any less grilled but every day the same. No matter which eggs you picked (scrabbled, fried, omelettes or poached) they were all rock hard which made them inedible, clearly been sat in the trays for too long, but nothing was hot just warm. I expected at 5* level they would have someone cooking fresh eggs to order (any type), but no the staff did not understand this concept, I asked for a ham omelette and they took me to the cold buffet and pointed to the ham, when I asked for it to be in an omelette they did not understand. Each morning to compliment the over cooked items was a different “seasonal vegetable of the day” remember this is for breakfast and each day there was a different choice on Sunday it was gardens peas, Monday courgettes, Tuesday red peppers, Wednesday carrots, Thursday onions and Friday clearly ran out of ideas it was peas with carrots, clearly not a great offering as every morning they remained nearly untouched, question is why would anyone have any of these strange items on a cooked breakfast anyway? Sunday was my birthday so as a treat on Saturday we decided to book a table in The View, apparently an exclusive on site restaurant, we asked reception to book us a table and she said she would see if we could get in for 7.30, no was the reply we could only have 8pm, booked that. We arrived 5 mins early to have a pre dinner drink, to find the place totally empty! I did think it a little strange when he asked us “where would you like sit” having the choice we picked the table overlooking the pool and sea view. After 10 mins we had a drink, picked our food and took photos, still no one else in there. Starters arrived 10 mins later of Greek salad and grilled octopus both amazing, those eaten still no one else came in. Fifteen mins later along came the mains, seafood risotto and juicy ribeye for me, the risotto was great, while the ribeye a bit fatty throughout not what I expected for €40, anyway mains eaten and another drink ordered it’s now 8.55pm and still no one else in here? As a treat the chef made me a nice lemon cheesecake birthday cake, very nice and light, third drinks ordered its now 9.20 and it was starting to concern me that there was still no one else in here, after all we did need to book and could only get 8pm right? all food done I ordered one more beer a
