We stayed here as part of a Backroads cycling trip through Provence. The property is beautiful but our room itself was a bit dated, tired and very small. We did, however, have a fabulous dinner here! One of our favorite meals in Provence.

Writing this review, I have a mixed feelings. Let's start with good things: The place is beautifull and is literally an essence of tranquility. We had a modern room with a view to a parc and it was so awesome! Taking a sunbed and sit under the trees with a bottle of wine, it was so amazing. The food is simply marvelous. We had a dinner in 2-star Michelin restaurant in Vienne two days before we came to Massillan and here, it was the same level or maybe even better. All those details you can enjoy. We just loved it. As in typical good French restaurant, a wine list is excellent. Room was very nice comfortable, we especially appreciated good and quite air conditioning. The castle courtyard and pool are simply beautifull. So why this stay was not perfect ? Because of some more and some less important details ... The first problem, the most visible is a service. It was on a good level in the restaurant, otherwise there is a space for improvement. We requested different pillow, it was said "Yes, we will check", noone ever came back. We reported problems with wi-fi, it was said "Yes, we will check", noone ever came back, problem persisted. That awesome food I wrote about earlier is actually also the biggest weakness. Why ? Because restaurant offers two menus only! Btw, noone will tell you that. We have decided to stay for six nights. So we had two options for five evening. Although the food is delicious, you do not want to eat all the time the same things and all the modification we saw were just not to a standard of a normal menu. To make things even worse, all lunches and two evenings you have only bistro so again and again, you repeat the same food. I do not understand why, the chef is obviously more than competent to create more than two different menus. There were more things like no body lotion in room or bumpy access road with holes noone cares to fix. When we were at the pool, we requested in bar next to the pool two drinks, we were told by the waiter that he is "not authorized to work with alcohol" ... Like seriously ? I wish so much I could give a 5-star review to Massillan because we just love tranquility of this place all that charm that it offers. But I can't. Although we had a great experience, there are definetly things that require attention. Still, we can strongly recommend the place, just for a shorter visits.

Peaceful location with lovely garden Accommodation is tasteful Service could be improved to make it a better experience, staff not as welcoming and helpful as before, very little flexibility shown The food is exquisite, fresh and lots of flavors

Unfriendly, unwelcome, understaffed overpriced hotel where no one cares and everything is extra and service is non existent..imagine being told on arrival check in is 4pm and we should go east until that time ! .. if this is what you like from a hotel stay then I highly recommend!

Very beautiful place, excellent restaurant but the welcome at the reception was very poor. Some employees don’t know what is a customer centric approach and how to welcome people. Room very expensive without hair conditioner, the ecological approach is a pretext for economy

I stayed here back in March and am now wanting to visit again so I feel motivated this morning to leave this review and tell everyone how magical it was. Honestly, I’ve never had a more relaxing stay somewhere in my life. Everything about this place is so peaceful. I loved waking up in the morning with a cup of coffee, walking the grounds, and visiting the chickens. It was exactly the environment I was looking for to unplug from life for a few days. I believe we paid around $145 a night for our room which was comfortable with thoughtful details. I LOVED the bathroom and claw foot tub. Worth every penny! We ate at Le M restaurant and it was one of the best meals we’ve ever had. The food itself was beautiful and unique, but I also adored our waiter. I wish I could remember his name so management could give him our praise. He was from Nimes I believe. ANYWAYS, he just made the whole experience feel so personal. He was professional and genuine, knowledgeable and kind. Service was the cherry on top of a beautiful, special meal. We also went to the spa, which was great! Just what we needed to relax after 3 weeks of traveling all over France. The pool was luxe and peaceful. The perfect ending to our stay. This was a special experience for my girlfriend and I. We typically stay at airbnbs when we travel so it felt like such a treat to stay at Chateau de Massillon. I hope the staff and owners see this and know how grateful we are to them for providing such a perfect stay. I’m still dreaming about it almost a year later! Thank you!

Having looked at the fabulous pictures on the website I’m afraid that Massillan was not what we were expecting. When you pay absolute top dollar for a prestige room I think it’s fair to expect something very special. It’s a lovely chateau from the outside but once you’re there the staff seem rather preoccupied and disinclined to help. Wrong information and their own confusion over our check in time was badly handled. We waited in the bar and asked for tea - it never arrived. Our room was no more comfortable than a good €100 a night hotel. There were some nice touches such as the bamboo pillars in the bathroom etc but it still had a mid price feel about it. The rather dirty veranda with cheap furniture had absolutely no privacy, neither did the room in part due to the lack of anything other that blackout curtains. There were people walking dogs and golf carts riding within a few feet of our veranda. The wifi didn’t work. The stylish designer bathroom taps were impossible to operate with wet hands. The meagre tea and coffee included empty teabag envelopes! The final straw was that our booking was expensive (hence our anticipating an amazing experience) and was made many months ago but the room rate on the back of our door was advertised as €135 less than we paid. Add to that the fact that the expensive spa and breakfast were not included I’m afraid we were feeling ripped off and our patience was at an end so we decided to leave. To be fair, the on duty manager was very sympathetic and gave us a reduction for our one night stay.

we loved this hotel very much! the rooms are rather large and are very nice and clean! the beds are wonderful. do checkin advance whether the restaurants will be open, because we had two days on which they were closed and we could only get some salads.

On arrival we were told we could not have a dinner reservation due to staff shortages in either restaurant. As it turned out the main restaurant was closed but nothing says that online and we were never notified. At every point we were made to feel it was our fault and that we should have booked dinner when we made the reservation 7 months earlier. We eventually got a salad served at the pool but no effort made to set us a table or anything. The prestige room was not as described on the website which we feel is misleading. We emailed our concerns and we only got a response when asked how our stay was on checking out. The GM was very defensive and was only interested in if the email had been sent. On the plus side the Maitre De and his team (we had dinner the following night) we’re fantastic and the food lovely. This hotel should rival Le Manoir but sadly I feel the attitude of the top team needs to change. We were told all the time that due to staff shortages (across the entire industry in France) was why the grounds needed serious attention, the bar was not manned and the main restaurant closed (being foodies the main reason for the stay). In 3 weeks in France this was the only establishment we went to that had this problem. For the money stay somewhere else, it’s not worth it. Over promises but under delivers. Very disappointing.
