Not staying by the Erhai Lake is the right way to open your trip to Dali

This time in Dali, I deliberately chose a unique homestay, different from those uniform accommodations by the Erhai Lake. This is a Bai ethnic courtyard house with a history of over two hundred years, which, across the span of time and space, has now become the "Ancient Courtyard by the Pagoda". With a gentle knock on the door ring, the gate emits a very dull "creak" sound. Looking around, this deeply ancient courtyard is the only remaining two-hundred-year-old house in Green Peach Village, formerly a private mansion of the local noble Li family, a typical specimen of ancient Bai architecture in Yunnan. 🏡Environment To the east, it leans against the Three Pagodas; to the west, it is adjacent to the Cangshan Mountains; to the north, it relies on the Silver Bridge; and to the south, it faces the village gate. The light slants down, like water and silk, ferrying the long years. "Ancient Courtyard by the Pagoda" is ancient, simple, and mellow, just as we have imagined countless times, not the thin and fragile colored glass, but a profound tripod that withstands appreciation, with the azure blue of Yue porcelain. Its shape is the most standard "one seal" style courtyard of Dali, with the main house and wing rooms properly arranged, a patio in the middle, and pavilions and terraces decorated with flowing cups and winding water. Unlike the more common "three rooms and a screen wall", the ancient courtyard consists of four duplex main buildings, four carved corner towers, and a central patio courtyard, four small patio courtyards, a stone screen wall, two front and rear gardens, and two ancient alleys, forming the intricate pattern of "four courtyards and five patios, with horses turning around the corner towers". 🛌Rooms The "Summer Solstice" room I stayed in is a duplex room with two floors, which retains the beam structure of the ancient building while meeting modern needs in its entirety. The first floor is furnished with living room furniture full of ancient charm, and the second floor is for guest rooms and sanitary facilities, with the original height of the building making the guest room very comfortable. The bedding in the bedroom is especially comfortable, and I, who need a complete wrapping sensation to sleep soundly, particularly like it! Worth praising! There is also a balcony upstairs, where you can overlook the courtyard by opening the window, but unfortunately, it was under renovation during the off-season when I stayed, so I couldn't experience it. 🍽️Dining In the early morning of the ancient courtyard, what wakes up the guests is not an alarm clock, but the rustling wind, the slight rain, and the fluctuating light. Stretching, pushing open the window, the restaurant has already started cooking. The dining service follows the seasonal rhythm of the ancient city, with the chef selecting clean, fresh, and pollution-free ingredients on-site. Accompanied by special dipping sauces and tasty side dishes of the ancient city, the menu is constantly changing, with "Michelin-style" exquisite plating, bringing guests a truly "ultimate taste" breakfast. In the afternoon, life is leisurely, and one can enjoy tea in the tea room. Traditional architecture is a microcosm of historical culture, reflecting the aesthetic interests and life philosophy of the Chinese people. These old-style residences, every brick and tile, every grass and flower, every end and rafter, every corner, every screen wall, every pavilion, and terrace, are all soaked with local customs and stretch out the texture of the architecture. Dali's ancient city is also the "Utopia" in many people's hearts, no matter how hurried the steps are, one has to slow down upon arrival.
