The Lingshan Grand Buddha

The Lingshan Grand Buddha is located at No. 1 Lingshan Road, Mashan Town, Binhu District, Wuxi City, Jiangsu Province. The Grand Buddha faces Taihu Lake to the south, backs Lingshan Mountain, and is flanked by Qinglong (Mountain) on the left and Baihu (Mountain) on the right. On November 15, 1997, the Grand Buddha was completed and opened to the public. It stands 88 meters tall, 17 meters taller than the 'Mountain is a Buddha, Buddha is a Mountain' Leshan Grand Buddha in Sichuan, making it the second tallest giant Buddha statue in China; including the three-layer base, it is 101.5 meters tall in total. The Lingshan Grand Buddha statue consumed a total of 725 tons of copper, and the Buddha body was assembled and welded from 2000 cast copper wall panels. The Lingshan Grand Buddha was built according to the Buddhist 'Five Directions Five Buddhas' belief system. The image of the Grand Buddha is solemn and beautiful, designed by Zhao Puchu, the former president of the Buddhist Association of China, strictly according to the '32 forms' of the Buddha's body recorded in the Buddhist scriptures. The Buddha has a kind face and a wide view of all beings, and his words are heard before he speaks. The Grand Buddha has a kind smile, a wide view of all beings, and his left hand is making the 'Wish Granting Mudra', representing the giving of happiness, all of which are signs of blessing. The mark on his chest represents the solemnity of all virtues. The entire Buddha statue is perfect, serene, dignified and detailed, showing the Dharma appearance of Buddha's compassion.
