Located in Shuolong Town，Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the Detian Waterfall originates from the Guichun River which passes Vietnam and winds back Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. When the Guichun River arriving at the bluff in Detian Village, Daxin County, then the Detian Waterfall formed. Up on the about 200-meter wide bluff, the waterfall pours down with the drop of 70 meters. I travelled from Mingshi, the road was terrible, not even a road. The falls were stunning from every angle. The higher you go on the mountain walk the more amazing the view becomes. There is some delicious Vietnamese noodles and coffee available after the falls. There is also a fun escalator and a slide to get to the exit. When you get near the falls on the boat trip, the spray causes a rainbow to form, very beautiful. #waterfall #culturalattractions #lakes

Started 2023 with an interesting trip to the Detian Waterfall in Guangxi province, on the border of Vietnam. Coming from Shenzhen, it took me a couple of hours travelling by train to Nanning, then a car from Nanning to Chongzuo. I would recommend you rent a car or hire a driver for a smooth travel experience. I spent the night in Chongzuo then woke up early and made my way to the waterfall, this was quite a drive so be prepared for that. Once you arrive, you need to get your ticket then make your way to the bus which will drive you to the scenic area. There is a lot to explore once you’re inside so be prepared to walk. The whole China side is unfortunately barricaded so I could only see the waterfall from afar. You can see the Vietnam side is fully operational. One of my favourite parts of the grounds was the hike to the top of the mountain (you can also just take the elevator belt up if you’re not up for the hike) the view from the top is phenomenal. There’s a food street which is semi operational and some restaurants which are open inside. Overall the scenic area is a great place to explore for a couple of hours.

Getting There: Many people will come from Nanning by bus to get to the Detian Waterfalls. I did a different option, as I was staying in the Mingshi Scenic area and traveling solo. The difficult thing is the transportation: there are not any public buses or even reliable Didi from Mingshi. Best to arrange cars with your hotel (which is what I did) or even rent a car yourself and drive! It’s about a 40 minute drive from Mingshi to the Tourist area where you buy tickets. From there, you’ll take a bus 10 minutes to the waterfall. Attractions: 1. Detian Falls on the China / Vietnam border in Guangxi. Absolutely stunning! (CNY 115/pp for the entrance fee plus the sightseeing bus) 2. Take a boat ride close to the falls (CNY 30/pp for the bamboo rafting) 3. Ride the “Magic Carpet” up to the Glass Walk for a great view over the whole area. (CNY 68/pp) 4. Enjoy Vietnamese coffee or snacks at the various shops around. Hotels: I stayed in the Mingshi scenic area at the Kongshan Xiaozhu Hotel (大新孔山小筑酒店) for 2 days, then stayed at the Mingshi Mountain Hotel for 2 days. Some people choose to stay close to the Waterfall area, and there are lots of hotels and shops around so it’s also a good choice. Food & Restaurants: There are many restaurants, Vietnamese coffee shops, and snack options around the tourist center, the hotel areas, and the Detian Waterfall area itself. Important notes: Bring your passport to Detian Waterfall! On the drive there from Mingshi I was stopped at a border security point, and needed to show my passport to the officer (all was fine though). I also needed to show my passport for buying a waterfall ticket - your ID is linked and printed on your ticket. Well what to say about the Detian waterfalls? Amazing!! isn’t it? That scenery was just amazing and so beautiful and peaceful. Not too many people there when visited because of Covid, so easier to enjoy the view I believe. At the border with Vietnam, you can enjoy food and products coming from there.
