This bridge spans the Toyohira River between Horohira-bashi Subway Station and Nakanoshima Subway Station. Look upstream and you'll see the knobby peak of Mt. Eniwa in the distance. On a clear day you...
Horohira Bridge, named after connecting Sapporo City and Toyohira Town in the early Showa period. The current bridge is built in 1995, the 4th generation counting from the first wooden bridge. The wide ~ sidewalk on the downstream side is maintained as "Portland Square" to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the sister city alliance with Portland City, and is decorated with related monuments, reliefs, flower beds, etc. Through the glass plate in the enclosure cut in the center of the square, you can experience the toyohira gawa River flowing directly under the bridge, and ... of the bridge.
The arch of the bridge is a staircase, and it is designed to be able to climb on foot. The fence was low and the view was good, so it became a favorite spot. It's a structure that seems to be useless just by looking at the function as a bridge, so I felt like it was precious.
A bridge over the toyohira gawa River that flows through the city of Sapporo

The Toyohira River, which brings abundant blessings to Sapporo City, flows through the center of Sapporo. Horohira Bridge is famous as a bridge with a long history, although it crosses several bridges. It is also a place with a subway station.
It is a large bridge over the Toyohira River in Sapporo City, and is also the name of the subway station. The unique structure of this bridge is that the sidewalk is wide and the arch is provided, but there are stairs on the arch and you can climb it. There are many arch bridges nationwide, but I think there are no other bridges that can climb the arch.
