Gege House

＂ Tianjin Gegefu Collection Museum ＂ is located at No. 30 Gulou South Street, Nankai District, Tianjin. It is composed of two courtyard houses and is a typical Qing Dynasty residential building. It was originally the residence of Heshuogege in Tianjin during the Qing Guangxu period, so it is called Gege Mansion. His real name is Yu Deling (1886 ～ 1944), because his father is a foreign envoy of the Qing government, his mother is French, Yu Deling has lived abroad with his father since childhood, mastered foreign languages and diplomatic etiquette. In 1903, after returning home, he became a royal translator of the Queen Mother Cixi, and was knighted as He Shuo Gege. In 1904, in order to avoid the marriage of the Empress Cixi, she avoided living in Tianjin and transferred to Shanghai the next year. In 2009, Gege Mansion became a private house, and was later established as the Tianjin Gege Mansion Collection Museum, which exhibited Chinese cultural relics repurchased from all over the world.

He Shuogege, whose real name is Yu Deling, was born in Wuchang in 1886. His father Yu Xuan was a envoy of the Qing court in Japan and France, and her mother was French. Yu Deling has lived abroad with his father since childhood, and is well-versed in many languages and diplomatic etiquette. In 1903, Yu Deling worked in the palace for the Queen Cixi to do translation work, deeply loved by Cixi, and later because of diplomatic needs, the Queen Cixi to seal Yu Deling to Heshuo Gege. Now we see the Gege House is the seat of the old Heshuo Gege.

Gegefu is one of the main relics of Ming and Qing style architectural culture in Tianjin's 600-year-old city Xiangyugulou style street. Before the transformation of the contemporary Gulou commercial street, it was a three-way hospital, with carved beams, stone mountains, fountains and lotus flowers, showing the royal style. Due to the need for the overall landscape transformation, a hospital was demolished. With the careful care of the current owner, the former charm was restored and it was transformed into a museum of historical and cultural collections in Tianjin's private city.
