Byodoin Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
One of the most iconic temples of Japan
I've got a story to share about my recent trip to Japan, more specifically, a little gem called Byodoin Temple in Uji.
So, after a quick train ride from Kyoto, my sister and I found ourselves in Uji. Our stomachs were grumbling, so we refueled with a scrumptious lunch before diving into the temple experience.
Byodoin Temple, folks, is a bona fide icon of Japan. The architecture was mind-blowing, with intricate details that seemed to whisper tales of centuries past. We explored the stunning Phoenix Hall, which stood tall and proud amidst a picturesque pond. The tranquil atmosphere made it a perfect spot to reflect and find some inner peace.
Visiting Byodoin Temple was one of the highlights of our Japanese escapade. It's a place that not only showcases Japan's rich history but also nourishes the soul. We even bought Omikuji to commemorate our visit to this place!

There are many more historical temples and shrines around Kyoto which are so distinctive to one another. Come and discover them with your own eyes someday😊

The Byodi-In Temple was a special experience for our family. It's unbelievably beautiful and tranquil. The scenery is stunning, and I recommend visiting.
Entry fee $5 can be paid at the booth at the entrance.
If you are in Honolulu do not miss this place, your Hawaii trip is unfinished if you miss this place
Super touristy temple without even any monks, but it's really nice, especially situated in the valley of temples. It doesn't take more than a half hour, even with the souvenirs and some snacks.

Uji - Town of Matcha
Uji is a lovely town in Kyoto. If you love matcha, you can’t miss Uji. You can find many cuisines made of matcha here, like noodles, ice cream and jelly. It would be a unforgettable journey for sure. Even it was raining, I still enjoyed very much.
GREEN ( tea )VS PINK (sakura ) Uji KYOTO
Visiting green tea town in full bloom of sakura.
I live this small town fill with various Green tea shop around Byodoin palace. Don’t forget to try green tea soft cream and Matcha soba 🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸#kyoto #spring #japan #sakura #restaurant #cafe
Some people think that there is only one river in Uji, one equal court, and one tea shop is simple. In fact, the plain is the pursuit of the Buddhist youth.
The first time I came to Uji, I took the Keihan tram. I got off the bus and got off the Uji River. This time I came to Uji, I was sitting in JR, and the station was about ten minutes walk from Uji River. When I looked at the distance on the Uji Bridge, I thought that the red bridge on the other end was the Uji Bridge. The navigational positioning told me that it was wrong. Under my feet, this ordinary bridge is unremarkable, and the old bridge that walks and walks is the Uji Bridge deity. It was built in 646 AD, almost 1400 years ago. It is the oldest surviving bridge in Japan. The bridge is already made of cement, but the guardrail on the bridge is still wood.
The other end of the bridge is a stone statue of the purple part of the author of the Japanese classic literary "Genji Monogatari". She wrote three females such as "Qiao Ji" and "Floating Boat" in "The Uji Ten-Taiwan" in The Tale of Genji The story of sadness. Although I have not read the source language, I may have a background in the background. Uji has a classical temperament that I love.

Not just matcha! Experience the blooming early summer in Uji.
When it comes to Uji in Kyoto, people first think of matcha. Although it is known as the world-famous hometown of matcha, in fact, Uji's charm is not only matcha.
⭕The Byodo-in Temple, built in the 11th century, was named a "World Cultural Heritage" for its well-preserved architecture, paintings, crafts, and sculpture art. The most important building is the Phoenix Hall, which enshrines the Amitabha Buddha and 52 bodhisattva statues in the clouds. The design on the back of the 10 yen coin is the Phoenix Hall, while the design on the back of the 10,000 yen note is the golden bronze phoenix statue set at the north and south ends of the central hall roof. In addition, there is a museum called the "Ho-o-do Museum" that specializes in exhibiting cultural relics of the Byodo-in Temple.
⭕Every year in mid-to-late April, the wisteria flowers in the grounds of Byodoin Temple bloom. In the gentle morning breeze, the light and shadow sway, exuding a romantic early summer atmosphere.
⭕Coming out of Byodoin Temple, continue along the Uji River to reach Uji Shrine and Uji Shrine. These two shrines have cute 🐰 figures everywhere. It is said that when the prince Tadamitsu Wakairatsuko (うじのわきいらつこ), who was one of the gods, moved to Uji, he unfortunately got lost, but fortunately met a white rabbit who showed him the way. This white rabbit was regarded as a messenger sent by the gods to guide people towards the right path. It is worth mentioning that Uji Shrine is the oldest surviving shrine in Japan.
⭕Continue forward from the shrine and you will arrive at Fudesan (Daijisan). ⛰️Not very high, with an altitude of only 131 meters, it is very suitable for hiking. The surrounding environment is lush with vegetation, and from the observation deck you can overlook the entire city of Uji.
🚞Transportation:
Departing from Osaka: Take the Keihan Uji Line and get off at Uji Station.
Depart from Kyoto: Take the JR Nara Line and get off at Uji Station.
Matcha cake and matcha ice cream are estimated to be good for many people; matcha comes from Uji, and many people have heard of it. Uji belongs to Kyoto Prefecture, and it is estimated that many people will not know. Many people in the Kansai region will miss Uji. As part of the ancient cultural heritage site of Kyoto, Uji can be said to have a pivotal position throughout the Kansai region! In the past, my Weibo had introduced the "Equality Court and Phoenix Hall" when the wisteria flower opened. Today, I said the "Uji Seon Shrine" on the other side of Ujikawa! The
Uji Seiki Shrine was built in the Heian period and the Kamakura era. It was built by the then aristocratic Fujiwara, and is known as the pure land of Buddhism. The interior of the temple is a Japanese national treasure building. Unlike the Equal Court on the other side of the river, the Uji Shrine is more quiet, and it is solemn and solemn under the shade of trees. There is also a statue of the Tale of Genji at the river bank next to the Uji Shrine.
Leave Uji Shangshen, and try the soba-flavored soba noodles on the way back, and you will have a new understanding of Matcha!
Japan National Treasure Shrine is now a world cultural heritage, a must-see attraction in Uji!
When I traveled to Japan, I found an interesting phenomenon - this country is full of shrines, and its intensity is echoed by the Buddhist temple. Most of the Japanese shrines are dedicated to ancestors, or some sacred characters with deified nature. One of the representatives is Uji Seon Shrine in Uji City, Kyoto Prefecture.
Uji Onsen Shrine is adjacent to the tram stop, and is located across the Uji River from one of the most beautiful gardens in Kyoto. Uji Shangshen was built in the middle of the mountain, surrounded by lush forests and excellent ecological environment. The area of the
Uji Shrine is very small. You can walk around in ten minutes and enjoy it for up to half an hour. This shrine is regarded by the Japanese as a national treasure, enshrining the Emperor and his two crown princes. The Emperor of God was the 15th Emperor in Japanese history, born on December 14, 200 AD, and reigned for 40 years plus more than a month.
The shrine buildings in Japan are all red, white and gray, and the Uji Shrine is no exception. The shrine's main hall was built in the middle of the 11th century, and is called "the palace of the palace" with the nearby Uji Shrine.
Most of the time, the tourists of Uji Seonjin Shrine are very rare, and it looks a bit cold and clear, but it is also this desertedness that makes Uji Seisha have a sense of independence from the outside world.
Transportation: Keihan Tram Uji Line Uji Station.
Mimuroto Temple Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
【Uji, Japan】A Tranquil and Far-reaching Ancient Capital Day Trip.
Many people traveling to Kyoto, Japan 🇯🇵 choose to spend half a day or a full day in Uji. The itinerary for this day trip starts from Uji JR Station → Mimurotoji Temple → Uji Shrine → Ujigami Shrine → Byodoin Temple → Uji Park 🚶♀️.
Most of Uji's attractions are within walking distance. Except for taking a bus 🚍 from the JR station to Mimurotoji Temple, all other spots can be reached on foot, which is very convenient ☺️. When tired, you can taste traditional Japanese sweets and matcha tea 🍵 at the nearby old shops.
It was a bit rainy 🌧️ on the day of my visit to Uji, but the misty weather matched the atmosphere of Uji perfectly. Plus, there were not many tourists that day, so while enjoying the spectacular views of the Uji River and Asagiri Bridge in Uji Park, I particularly felt the tranquil and far-reaching spirit of this ancient capital 😌.
🚝 Transportation: A short walk from Uji JR Station
The Sanshido Temple in Uji is about a 20-minute walk from the World Cultural Heritage Equality Center. It takes you from the Keihan Tram Sanchahu Station and walks to the ancient temple recently.
Compared to other temples in Japan, the visitors of Sanshihu Temple are very rare and mainly Japanese.
This Buddhist temple is built on the mountain and is famous for its hydrangea. However, in the late autumn, there is no hydrangea in full bloom, but the red leaves are intoxicating. Compared with other temples in Kansai, the red leaves of Sanshihu Temple will probably be red for about ten days, and the most promising period is from mid-November to late November. The temple of
Sanshihu Temple is not as magnificent as the temples such as Kyoto Tofu Temple and Kiyomizu-dera Temple, but the layout is reasonable, small and exquisite, without losing the quiet and solemn atmosphere, the popular temples are much more, and there are some places where there are fewer people. I feel very attentive, at least I really like this place. #
Ujis Sanshido Temple is about a 20-minute walk from the Equality House. The most famous is the beautiful scenery of the hydrangea (hydrangea) in June. It is a pity that I went to April and did not appreciate the hydrangea. The returning garden in the
temple is full of various kinds of hydrangea. If it is the hydrangea season, you can take a different view around the garden. There is also a tea room in the garden where you can buy a matcha and a Japanese dim sum.
The temple's main hall has to climb a small slope. The Sanshihu Temple is mainly dedicated to the bronze statue of the Avalokitesvara Guanyin, which is rumored to be born in the mountains. There is also a treasure hall built in the temple. The five wooden carvings of the Fujiwara era, Amitabha, are placed in the temple. It is an important national cultural relic of Japan. Outside the hall, you can buy hibiscus and cute souvenirs related to hydrangea. In August, there will be lotus and lotus flowers in full bloom here.
Uji Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
"What is Uji in addition to Matcha? These places are not to be missed. //
Uji City (Japanese: ) is a villa of Japanese peaceful aristocrats. It is the stage of ancient wars and the main stage of the story of Genji Monogatari.
Uji, both the historical sedimentation and the taste of fresh petty bourgeoisie. Compared to the bustling Kyoto, Uji is a real small town. Enter the Uji Matcha Shop, enjoy the dance of the taste buds, walk into the Uji Shrine, and listen to the echoes of history. In the afternoon, explore various types of matcha food in Uji; after the rain, listen to his story in Uji. Spring cherry blossoms, summer fireworks, autumn tea festivals, winter snow, there is always a moment to make you fall in love with it.
Address: Uji City, Kyoto Prefecture, Japan, located in the south of Kyoto Prefecture.
Attractions: 1Equality Hall. The early Japanese wooden architecture was built along the Uji River in Kyoto. The garden is full of cherry blossoms, rhododendrons and lotus flowers, and the wisteria is full in May. Friends who want to go can spend the flowering time to enjoy the flowers.
2. The Uji Seon Shrine, built in the late Heian period, has been included in the World Cultural Heritage List. But it is just a small shrine with lots of little rabbits.
3 Uji Park (Wind Park). Although it is a park, it has really achieved five steps and one scene, ten steps and one painting. The two sides of the spring road are full of cherry blossoms, and you can also go boating in the lake.
4 Wuyuan Story Museum. The only Genji Story Museum in the world can experience the Genji Story Culture.
Shop recommendation: 1 Matcha Republic. A dessert shop selling matcha, the net red shop on the ins, the most famous should be the matcha packaged matcha dessert, it should be the must-have card shop.
2. A hundred-year-old shop, a dessert shop frequented by locals, the dessert is not sweet. In general, you can try the taste of the locals.
3 Ito is a long guard. Backed by the source of Genji, it is also a dessert shop that mainly deals with Matcha. The gift of Matcha desserts in the store can bring the sweetness of this matcha to the favorite people!
"Uji, not only Matcha, but also his own cultural charm.
Walking in Uji, the street shops are scattered with matcha shop, from the sale of iced goods to the tea powder of distant friends and relatives, from the centuries-old royal royal shop to the western-style coffee and tea, a tea town. Although the story of Genji is about the story from here (the Genji Story Museum is in Uji), I am more interested in the slow-paced time spent in the tea house.
Yuzhi is a very romantic city. Apart from Matcha, even the sunset is so charming.
Like the laid-back atmosphere, the faint sky, the crowd of streets, the clean environment, the smell of matcha~
