山鼻地区の原始林の開拓と北方防備のために入植して大規模な兵村を造り、札幌発展に尽力した屯田兵の歴史を伝える施設です。 一見、テーマパークのような建物ですが、資料室になっている2階フロアには、屯田兵が使用した農具や家財道具、雑貨類、「開拓」や「屯田」の文字が並ぶ毛筆の文献や書類、古い写真、軍服など500点が展示され、当時の厳しい開拓の苦労を物語っています。 斜め向かい側の山鼻公園内には開村記念碑...
