The Dafo Temple and Prayer Wheel in Shangri-La (Free Attractions) || You sure know how to have a good time!
Address: Shangri-La, Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province
Turtle Mountain Park was established during the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty. Built against the mountain, it is the commanding height of the ancient city. Climbing to the top offers a panoramic view of the entire county town. The prayer wheel and Dafo Temple are the most distinctive buildings in the park and are also iconic structures of the ancient city.
At the end of the Dukezong Ancient Town in Shangri-La is Moonlight Square, and the small hill to the east of the square is the famous Turtle Mountain Park.
Climbing up the steep steps, you will soon reach the Dafo Temple. Following the temple from left to right, you will come to the world's largest prayer wheel. Looking up, the entire prayer wheel is about as tall as a 5-story building, majestic and spectacular. The body of the wheel is gilded with pure copper, and the upper part of the cylinder is embossed with the four great Bodhisattvas: Manjushri, Samantabhadra, Avalokiteshvara, and Ksitigarbha. The lower part is engraved with the eight treasures of Buddhism. Inside the cylinder are stored 1.24 million mantras, wordless true words, and various Buddhist treasures, weighing a total of approximately 16 tons.
To turn such a huge prayer wheel, it takes more than ten people to exert force at the same time. Each turn is equivalent to silently chanting the Buddha's name 1.24 million times. After three full turns, one can pray for disaster relief and blessings for good fortune and auspiciousness.
🌈 Note, the altitude here is 3300 meters, and altitude sickness may occur.
When I arrived, Manicha was going back. I could go back to the wind. I went up and people were turning. It's not possible for a few people. And I have to turn to No. 1, No. 3, No. 5, No. 7 ....
The Big Buddha Temple prayer wheel is the largest prayer wheel in the world. The symbols are magnificent and atmospheric. It takes many people to turn. I also turned around and turned three times. I hope to bring good luck. Good choice. Very good.
The stone walking road in Dukezong Ancient City is uphill. It has been going in to the high point to Guishan Park. The stone steps are the Tibetan temple of the Big Buddha Temple. The tourists are obviously interested in the oversized prayer wheel, and try to circle with the crowd. It is true that only such a huge instrument is seen here, which has become the highest point of the ancient city, and can be seen almost at any time when shopping.
Interesting place to check out and take some pictures. It was very crowded and going up was very steep. Make sure you wear non slippery shoes. I saw someone slip down the stairs!!If you are asthmatic, take it easy.
Very big, many people can turn around, it is worth a visit, free and open! Parking at the door is also convenient. It takes only two minutes to turn to the ancient city. In other words, turn in the square on the right hand side of the prayer wheel and go in the ancient city. Follow the gable wall. The first intersection turns left and goes uphill about 30 meters. There is a restaurant on the left. It tastes good. Compared with those so-called China on the tip of the tongue, it is much better than the good ingredients, good meat, and less chicken flavor.
