Everything about my stay was great! The staff were super friendly, the room was clean and comfortable, and breakfast (which was included) was excellent. I arrived a little earlier than check-in time, but the process was smooth and quick. I’d asked for a room facing a particular direction, and the receptionist happily arranged that for me. The room itself was compact but felt surprisingly spacious, with a good-sized TV, iron, hairdryer, and a lovely view over the old canal. The location was also really convenient. The only small downside was that the room felt a bit cooler than I’d have liked. I tried to adjust the temperature to around 22°C, but it seemed to stay closer to 20°C. Breakfast was fantastic — plenty of choice and well stocked every morning from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. It had everything from a classic full English to cereals and even a pancake machine! The cleaning staff were also very polite and did a great job. Overall, I had a great stay and would definitely book again!

This is our second stay here in a year, and once again it was a great experience. The location is excellent — very close to the city centre — and the staff are extremely polite and helpful. The parking is a bit expensive, but still manageable. The best part, though, is the breakfast spread — excellent variety and absolutely delicious.

Great services with warm welcomes whenever we walked past the receptions. Adequate and clean utensils in the kitchen areas, and even bins are enough for staying 3nights. A movable table was under the desk so we could just pull it out to have our meals easier. It’s also nice that cups are provided in the bathroom. Nice view on my sixth floor room.

Unfortunately, this was a disappointing stay. The reception, bar and restaurant are the best part of this hotel. The lifts were slow, corridors outside the room smelt awful and room was poor. There was extensive water damage to the bottom of the bathroom door, dated furniture and one of the two beds was sat on the floor in the middle despite there being wheels underneath each side. There was pink/red staining on the curtains and we couldn’t see out of the window due to the condensation. The decoration, plug sockets were good and there was a hair dryer, iron and ironing board, mini fridge (empty) and a safe. The shower room was well presented, there were plenty of pillows and towels. The room temperature was comfortable. More bar staff were needed at busy times and all staff encountered were pleasant and friendly. Strange security late at night but understood why this was needed.

Established in 1879, this hotel is indeed the Grand Birmingham Hotel! It oozes classiness throughout. Our room was spacious but looking at the floor plan, that seems to be the standard! Bathrobes provided though not slippers. The shower has a door instead of the useless walk in panels that never work! No useless espresso cups but proper world map mugs for our coffees and tea in-room. Two comfortable arm chairs and the bed… The bed was a dream and I’m hoping to source the exact mattress topper and duvet! Perfect for me as a smoker, the hotel has an exclusive courtyard terrace on the first floor offering complimentary self service coffee. There are two adjacent restaurants to the hotel that uphold a dress code ensuring the premises is classy throughout. Beyond the hotel doors there’s plenty other eateries as the hotel is bang in the centre right by the Birmingham Cathedral: again perfect for our following Palm Sunday. The only thing I don’t understand is why the hotel entrance is not bigger and grander than it deserves.

To be fair Birmingham at first glance coming out of the station doesn’t look all that safe for a foreign traveller. The route to the hotel would initially reinforce that impression. However after walking the city the next day for over 6-8 hours, while the location is NOT city Center, it is actually located in a good place close to all the major places I need to visit on foot; train station, the mega mall Bullring, Birmingham city center / cathedral / St Martin’s mkt, the hip new part of town - Gas Basin (canal waterways) and also the city’s modern library with the rooftop gdns (@ Centenary Square). The rooms looked like it was recently refurbished. For the price I paid (58 Pounds for 2 pax), it was the best value out of my entire 16 day UK trip covering 15 different towns - up & down the UK (incl London/Cambridge/Leicester/Coventry). In short, a pretty damn good deal. It had aircon which was a major blessing in summer as most other places I stayed, didn’t have that.

I was genuinely surprised by how convenient the hotel's location was. It's just 20-30 meters from the train station, making it incredibly easy to reach. We could walk to every attraction, completely eliminating the need for public transportation. Chinatown being right next door was fantastic, offering endless dining options to suit all our family's tastes. The hotel itself was very quiet and comfortable, and it felt incredibly secure. Overall, we were extremely satisfied with our stay!

The room was pretty quiet. I stayed on the basement level, so there was no window, but since I was only there for one night to sleep, it didn't bother me. The bedding and bathroom were very clean, and there was a door curtain. The bed was quite soft. Having the toilet and shower right in the room was very convenient. There was also a full-length mirror and a vanity table in the room. The front desk offered free, very fresh lemonade! However, my bedside lamp was broken and hadn't been repaired; it squeaked all night, which really affected my sleep. I've told them and hope it gets fixed soon.

The front staff all are very helpful and professional. It made my trip more pleasant and easier. Definitely will recommend and come back. The location is super convenient to food mall and Chinese restaurants.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4/5 with great Location near to Train Station! I had a really pleasant stay at Britannia Hotel Birmingham New Street. The room was spacious, tidy, and very clean, which made it feel comfortable and relaxing after a long day exploring the city. The hotel’s central location is perfect — just a short walk from the train station, shops, and restaurants, making it very convenient for both leisure and business trips. The staff were friendly and welcoming, always ready to help with anything I needed. It was just abit noisy because my room is next to the street where there is a christmas market , but the room was well maintained. Overall, it was a great experience — excellent value for money, clean rooms, and a convenient location. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Birmingham.
