How should I put it, the price is cheap, but I really can't live for two days, I was bitten by a flea on the bed, and the toilet was blocked in the first room...The front desk said that no one repaired it. My wife and I wanted to get away for a few days and stay close to the beach. We chose the Moonlight Beach Motel based on the reviews. PROS: Excellent location!!! Within a few minutes walk of Moonlight Beach, probably one of the nicest beach areas on the North San Diego Coast. Also within easy walking distance of many shops and restaurants, as well as the train station. We actually took a day trip by the Coaster to Old Town San Diego. Our room was recently renovated, very spacious and clean. It actually had two king beds, a first for me, and they were comfortable. We were on the 2nd floor and had a nice partial view of the ocean and beach from our balcony. The shower had nice pressure and hot water. The TV was new and the WiFi worked fine. There is a small fridge inside one of the dressers. It was very quiet while we were there. There are BBQ grills outside facing the beach that we didn't use. There is plenty of parking. CONS: The outside of the motel is average looking, not a big deal. The office is very small and located within the property. They provide coffee and packaged Danishes but no continental breakfast, also not a big deal. We were told that there is no early check-in, and emailed as well. We did arrive two hours early and did double check this policy, and the front desk clerk confirmed. If the room is ready, I don't know why one can't check in early. Though the rooms were newly renovated, they seemed unfinished. Our bathroom did not have baseboards or a shelf in the shower for shampoo, soap, and other accessories. There was no shelf in the closet. There was an iron and board, but no hairdryer. My understanding is that there is no ice machine or laundry room, though that did not matter to us. Housekeeping was an issue. We stayed two nights. After our first night, we left in the morning and did not return until about 3 pm. The room had not been cleaned. About 20 minutes later there was a knock on the door and it was the housekeeper. She asked us if we needed anything. I said more towels and to have the bathroom cleaned. We could make our own bed. She took away the old towels and provided new ones, and that was it. A quick inspection revealed that she had not cleaned the sink or toilet, or emptied the trash. I wonder what she would have done if we were not in the room. I had read a review that said some of the housekeepers did a great job and others tried to get away with the bare minimum. We experienced the latter. We did enjoy our trip to Encinitas and our stay at the Moonlight Beach Motel. The location can't be beat and the price, at least for this time of year, was reasonable. Expect clean, spacious, no-frills accommodations and if your room is on the 2nd or 3rd floor enjoy the ocean views. Should we decide to return to Encinitas for a vacation we would stay here again.From$216

Checked in with Jeff very easy yet not very personable. Amenities extra $15/day even if you’re not using. Gym pool spa internet parking buffet breakfast. No disability parking in front door entrance only back (which was to far away from room) no help offered with luggage (only self service heavy push carts) Did not ask if I wanted help or if I was going to utilize these amenities.
Room smelled of heavy use chemicals to clean room. (Could taste it).
Ocean view claim with balcony was actually only seen if you walked and peered to the left.
Bed not the most comfortable. Exit room door would slam at night very loud.

Located in a quiet area it has a completely private backyard and entrance from the house it is attached to. It is only 2 blocks from famous Moonlight Beach, and 4 blocks old-town Encinitas. Encinitas is considered by many as one of the true gem beach areas in the county, providing many niche eating and shopping options. Amenities include a queen sized bed, stone floor, and the entertainment system includes a 50 inch flat screen TV with access to see and record on DVR all local and standard cable channels, plus Netflix. Sit in your private backyard and have a meal the patio table. We have had great feedback, just check out the comments left by our guests. Moonlight is one of the most popular beaches in North County San Diego, with facilities that include restrooms, showers, volleyball courts, fire pits, beach rentals , children’s playground, and even a great snack bar! If you want a more secluded beach, just walk about 100 yards north or south on the beach.Walk into downtown Old Encinitas and eat at one of the many great restaurants or shop at the small unique shops. The Beach is open!! The amazing, large 2 Bed 2 bath town home, has an ocean view and is 40 feet from the Beacon's Beach Access.Its large private fenced front yard is perfect for families and approved pets. The entire building has two town homes. One is upstairs and the this home is downstairs. The area is the quintessential 1960's beach town with restaurants within one block. We are pet friendly with pre approval.A perfect relaxing beach retreat; the oceanfront Townhouse has 2 bedrooms, 2 baths and is just 40 feet from the path that leads down to Beacon's beach. We are literally just across Neptune from Beacon's. As they say less than a "stones throw." This is the only home in this area with a large oceanfront grass yard. The yard is perfect for families to comfortably spend time inside and outside together as well as have a safe place for pets. The home has just been completely remodeled inside and has an updated look and decor. The home includes 2 assigned parking spots, 2 soft surfboards, boogie boards, beach chairs, and beach toys. Just arrive and you are ready for a wonderful day at the beach. The bedrooms are well appointed, with a King bed in each room, large closets, TVs, and matching bedroom dressers. For larger groups, we have a convertible futon in the second bedroom, with sheets, pillows, and a blanket. The entire home is very nicely furnished and well outfitted for our guests. The area is the quintessential 1960's beach town, with modern splashes of luxury and tons of eclectic soul. The cliffs across the street the boast views of the entire coastline and the path that leads down to world class, Beacons Beach. The home is also just blocks away from several great places to eat or have a drink. It is a short walk to Coast Hwy where you will find unique boutiques, mouth watering Mexican food, local coffee houses, antique stores, a new and used record store, and so much more! Stroll down a little further on the weekends and stop by the Seaside Bazaar, North County's only open-air market. At night, enjoy home cooking in your oceanfront rental, or check out one of the local neighborhood restaurants such as Public House, a small place serving up great food and drinks. Or maybe you would enjoy Bar Leucadian, a neighborhood bar that has been there since 1946.Historic Coast Highway also just blocks away, is home to trendy restaurants, chic boutiques and art studios - great for walking around in the sunshine. The Old Coast Highway continues south through Old Encinitas, through the heart of our lost-in-time 'old downtown' - right past Swami's Beach. Legoland is only a 10 min drive (about 6 miles) and we are about a 30 min drive to Sea World and the San Diego International Airport. The San Diego Botanical Gardens are 2.5 miles away and is a very beautiful place to visit. Beacon's is still a 'surfer's heaven' where you can watch the greatest surfers in the world practice their skills every day.The entire condo is yours to use, including the large yard and plenty of beach supplies (two soft surfboards, 3 boogie boards, beach chairs, beach toys and much more). Guests will have access to a shared garage/laundry room with 3 washers and 2 dryers. We are pet friendly with pre approval.We are on call for our guests if they have any problems with any amenities.We are less than a mile to the Amtrak boarding area.This property is amazing. The large Oceanfront grass front yard makes for one of the most unique beach homes available in this area, as well as the ocean view and wonderful sunsets. We are just across the street from Beacon's Beach Access. As such we are within ear shot of the Amtrak train. It doesn't bother most guests but we installed 4-pane windows for our very light sleepers. Most of our guests say that a fan is enough not to hear the train.RENTAL RULES1. Location was great even the room location was great, however, room smelled bad, I’m sure it was the carpet. Walls were disgusting dirty. Bathroom floor was gross. Hotel needs to get rid of carpeting or clean it often. Won’t be staying there again.From$75

Cute place to stay, close to friends and family whom I was visiting. The gentleman who checked me into the hotel was very nice and knew a lot about the area. The room was cute, functional, and clean. It was very quiet and relaxing. I would definitely stay there again if I'm back in the area.From$80

How should I put it, the price is cheap, but I really can't live for two days, I was bitten by a flea on the bed, and the toilet was blocked in the first room...The front desk said that no one repaired it. Changed another room, the lights were broken...make do for one night...the only good one, free parking, breakfastFrom$108

My wife and I wanted to get away for a few days and stay close to the beach. We chose the Moonlight Beach Motel based on the reviews. PROS: Excellent location!!! Within a few minutes walk of Moonlight Beach, probably one of the nicest beach areas on the North San Diego Coast. Also within easy walking distance of many shops and restaurants, as well as the train station. We actually took a day trip by the Coaster to Old Town San Diego. Our room was recently renovated, very spacious and clean. It actually had two king beds, a first for me, and they were comfortable. We were on the 2nd floor and had a nice partial view of the ocean and beach from our balcony. The shower had nice pressure and hot water. The TV was new and the WiFi worked fine. There is a small fridge inside one of the dressers. It was very quiet while we were there. There are BBQ grills outside facing the beach that we didn't use. There is plenty of parking. CONS: The outside of the motel is average looking, not a big deal. The office is very small and located within the property. They provide coffee and packaged Danishes but no continental breakfast, also not a big deal. We were told that there is no early check-in, and emailed as well. We did arrive two hours early and did double check this policy, and the front desk clerk confirmed. If the room is ready, I don't know why one can't check in early. Though the rooms were newly renovated, they seemed unfinished. Our bathroom did not have baseboards or a shelf in the shower for shampoo, soap, and other accessories. There was no shelf in the closet. There was an iron and board, but no hairdryer. My understanding is that there is no ice machine or laundry room, though that did not matter to us. Housekeeping was an issue. We stayed two nights. After our first night, we left in the morning and did not return until about 3 pm. The room had not been cleaned. About 20 minutes later there was a knock on the door and it was the housekeeper. She asked us if we needed anything. I said more towels and to have the bathroom cleaned. We could make our own bed. She took away the old towels and provided new ones, and that was it. A quick inspection revealed that she had not cleaned the sink or toilet, or emptied the trash. I wonder what she would have done if we were not in the room. I had read a review that said some of the housekeepers did a great job and others tried to get away with the bare minimum. We experienced the latter. We did enjoy our trip to Encinitas and our stay at the Moonlight Beach Motel. The location can't be beat and the price, at least for this time of year, was reasonable. Expect clean, spacious, no-frills accommodations and if your room is on the 2nd or 3rd floor enjoy the ocean views. Should we decide to return to Encinitas for a vacation we would stay here again.From$216
