Set in a beautiful location, not far from the lake and village, and surrounded by the mountains. The hostel is accessible by bus and you can take many pleasant bus rides through the Lake District from here. However, it is the help we received from the staff (as is the case at all YHA hostels I've been to) at this hostel that really stood out during our stay. After realising we would be unable to continue our journey to another nearby YHA hostel, the staff were able to accommodate us at YHA Buttermere for the remainder of our trip. In general, the staff are very friendly, polite and give excellent customer service. The YHA is a wonderful organisation with a great mission and history. They deserve to be more well known.

This is an amazing hotel, fantastic bed and great bath to relax in after walking all day. Staff were fantastic, very friendly, helpful and informative of the area. We had to order room service (additional charge) as we had 2 dogs with us, it would have been nice to eat in the restaurant.

Highly recommend - all main areas are accessible. Friendly staff willing to assist at all times. Very comfortable spacious bedroom with good walk in shower. Sitting room area spacious with plenty separate divisions. Excellent breakfasts and,in our opinion five star evening meals. Table reservations are well timetabled so that the kitchen can provide the best unhurried service. Exterior peaceful surroundings away from what can be a busy tourist area.

Stayed for 2 nights with my girlfriend and on arrival we had the option to upgrade from standard to a room with a 4 poster bed etc. We checked both rooms an took up the upgrade option. The room was massive with 2 tv's and a lovely view of the mountains and rear garden area. The 4 poster bed was great and bathroom was very modern and clean. The decor in the room itself was abit dated but it was OK didn't really bother us. Location is fantastic only 15-20mins from keswick village. The facilities onside are brilliant as there's a indoor pool which is of a decent size. It also includes a sauna, jacuzzi & steam room to relax in after a long walk in the hills. The staff are lovely and very helpful, Gemma in the bar was fantastic. The breakfast is nice that was included in the price. Overall we had a great time an will be booking again soon.

Lovely location for a Christmas break. All the staff were lovely and very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble no matter what the request. The breakfast was amazing with the lemon curd/marmalade being home made and to die for. Christmas lunch was a lovely unhurried affair although there was far too much for food for just two of us. Our room (Thirlmere) was pleasant, although the sink in the en-suite was a bit too close to the toilet and the water took ages to run hot. Loved the shower gel and handwash. We thought it was a bit of a stretch to be marketed as a spa hotel given that access to the pool and steam room is limited as these facilities are open to external members/schools. The only real downside was the pool as it looked tired and in need of of tlc and given we were there at the weekend it would have been nice not to have had restricted access. It would have been useful to have been informed that the steam room was out of action as well as that was something we were really looking forward to using. All things considered we would go back.

What a fabulous hotel. Paid extra for a Premier Double which didn't disappoint. A lovely bay window seating area overlooking the hills and lake. So peaceful and a beautiful backdrop. The hotel was sumptuous, breakfast was delicious and lots of choice. The staff were very friendly. Took one of the walks the hotel had suggested, written onto paper which you could take with you. Wow... stunning. Even saw a deer on our pathway. Our bedroom was beautifully done with a very comfortable bed and a super fan which was very much appreciated as we had the most amazing hot weather during our stay. Would highly recommend and will definitely be returning.

So check in time is 3pm and we arrived 2 hours early..got to front desk only to see that it would not be manned until 3pm due to staff shortages..no problem, it just meant I had to leave our bag in the car (totally my fault for arriving early).. Went for a walk and a few drinks round Keswick and returned to the hotel just after 3pm. We got checked in (room 4) which my wife recognised straight away as being the room we stayed in 13 years ago for her 40th..apparently the same decor.. Off we went for a few more drinks and returned to the hotel for a meal at 1930ish only to be told by the same fella that checked us in about 4 hours earlier that they would only serve residents..once we established that we were in fact residents I asked him what time the bar closes? His reply..”as soon as possible”.. One of the reasons I booked this hotel was because it advertised it's own beer garden so on a lovely June evening, sun still beating down when you might want a couple of drinks, in the 'beer garden' - the front door is locked at 2030 and lights out. After last night's trauma of not even being able to get a drink we went down for breakfast..honestly we are far from picky eaters but it was mostly undercooked.. Sorry for sounding negative so on the plus side...the bed was very comfortable and the hotel is actually in a fantastic location for exploring Keswick. So put it on that or not. Is this

Wonderful hotel in a quaint location. We loved the free car park which is a rare find these days. We stayed one night as a stop over to our destination. Our room was clean and spacious and the bed was extremely comfortable. We didn't eat in the restaurant but did get drinks and the atmosphere was pleasant. Simon on reception was polite and professional and answered our many questions about the local area. She was also with our children, we joked she should offer a babysitting service! Only negatives were the lack of phone signal and intermittent Wi-Fi but these didn't impact our stay negatively. We would definitely book again if visiting the area.

After entering with some in trepidation I was pleasantly greeted by a professional friendly gentleman who took my order and booking for dinner that night. I found a lovely corner to pitch up and settle down to enjoy my pint. Some times when you just try you are rewarded. And this is one such time. Feel very comfortable in the friendly, bright, clean and well run establishment. Fully recommend a visit. And if you can stay in the hotel or camp site next door then so much the better 👍🎊👍 Foods good too 😋

Peaceful farm location overlooking Lake Bassenthwaite and the surrounding Northern Fells. However , the accommodation could be best described as BASIC with dated furniture and fixtures & fittings and soft well worn mattresses in the bedrooms. A standard basic full english breakfast is served , but dont expect a choice of how your eggs are cooked , its either fried eggs or nothing. A welcoming roaring log fire accompanies the guests at breakfast along with homemade cake by the fireside in the evening . There are no TV's to be seen anywhere in the accomodation , nor a radio of any kind , to compound this lack of communication the wifi reception is very unstable . Its the kind of place that most guests appreciate with the silence and tranquility and various species of birdlife and wildlife can be seen in the garden area. However , its the 45% year on year increase that I find disappointing. 2019 prices were £30 per person per night for 2 people in a double or twin room or £35 for single occupancy in a double room. For 2021 this has increased to £50 per person , or £100 per room for a couple . This represents a massive 45% year on year increase !! The proprietor , Mrs. Keren Lockwood maintains that prices are going up . Agreed , prices are indeed increasing , inflation is currently running at about 4% , Mrs. Lockwood , not 45% !!! I would suggest that your sons , Nimrod , Hawthorne and Cameron had some input into this massive price hike , but for £100 per night there is a surplus of superior accommodation available in the Northern Lakes , should customers feel they want an upgrade to what Mrs . Lockwood can offer for the same price.

The perfect peaceful break in green and lush surroundings. Lovely old Victorian building with cosy contemporary rooms, an intimate bar, spacious comfy lounge and dining area with added entertainment in the shape of a busy bird feeder. The evening meals are simply top notch, with a five course set menu to make you groan with pleasure! And the breakfasts are similarly wonderful. We felt very spoiled. Full marks, chef! The staff are excellent. Nothing is too much trouble. We had some initial difficulty with the car charging port - there is a rather complicated method of getting the darn thing to work - but we got there in the end. Highly recommended. Go.

Wow!! What an amazing hotel. We arrived in the middle of a power outage, to be met by polite friendly and professional staff, we were made aware of the situation and offered a seat by the fire with complimentary nibbles, we were kept up to date with the situation throughout until power was restored. Considering the disruption, the staff remained calm and all food was delivered promptly and was delicious. The rooms were very tastefully done, well equipped and spotless, beds were extremely comfy and the rooms were toasty warm on a night that got below freezing. Breakfast was really good and we were well looked after by all of the staff. We have to say it is one of the nicest hotels we have stayed in and would 100% recommend The Melbreak to anyone. Well done everyone concerned

Beautiful location with stunning views from my balcony room. En-suite room was very clean and tidy, had all the amenities required for my getaway. Loved having use of the shared kitchen/ common room area which was perfect for facilitating my dietary / medical requirements. All the staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. Front of house on my arrival were exceptional, explained everything i needed to know and check in went smoothly. Helping to carry bags up and down the stairs was highly appreciated. Having luggage storage on site was really useful for my final day so i did not need to carry it about until my departure time. The staff were extremely accommodating to my dietary requirements when i decided to have an evening meal in the hostel. My server gets 10/10 for getting the order correct (as it was awkward!) and 10/10 for entertainment/ friendliness. The whole vibe of the hostel was fantastic and relaxing which is just what i was looking for from this visit and stay. Highly recommended!

Made to feel very welcome from the moment we stepped foot through the door. Main communal area has been refreshed recently and is stunning. Bedrooms slightly dated but these are being refreshed this year. If they are anything like the standard of the reception and bar area they will be stunning. Will definitely be back to try out the new rooms later in the year! Location perfect and close to the town centre with plenty choice of places to eat and drink. This is a historic building dating back to 1548, experienced 11 owners and is now a spa hotel The hotel sits on a large area, with flocks of cattle and sheep in front of the door. The restaurant on the other side has a very good lake view and a large grass. Hares and squirrels often jump in the grass and woods. You can reach the lake by a small road or hike in the forest. You can feel it from the elevator, the hotel is very old The spa has a heated swimming pool, cold pool, hot pool, and an outdoor hot pool. It is really pleasant to face a large area of grass and woods. The only thing to note is: check out at 11 o'clock, be sure to go to the spa before check out, after 11 o'clock to add 20 pounds per person.

The views from the windows are stunning. The staff were friendly and remembered our preferences at breakfast. The breakfast was delicious and had well thought choices to make us eager to go down in the morning. I paid 6 pounds for the car park which was just behind the hotel and easy to get to. We stayed here for 2 nights as part of our Honeymoon. The hotel looks Grand from the outside. We checked in and were given room 115. It was a nice size room but the bathroom was very dated, the floor of the room was at a weird angle so was uphill to get to the bathroom. Then unfortunately we didn't sleep as the mattress was old, thin and lumpy. Breakfast was excellent 👍 it was buffet and good quality so no complaints! We went to reception to tell them the bed was awful and they changed our room straight away to a refurbished one which was sooo much better! Room 117. All in a nice stay, the Hotel is a nice short walk from keswick centre and there's plenty of parking. We would stay aging next time we visit keswick.
