We stayed at Somerset Grand Hanoi in November and had a wonderful experience. Yes, the hotel is older, but it is extremely convenient—just a 7–10 minute walk to the Old Quarter and close to everything you’d want to explore. The cooler weather was perfect; we could comfortably wear shorts, and the kids even enjoyed the pool.
Our 2-bedroom, 2-bath unit on the 10th floor was spacious and practical, with a full kitchen and a washer/dryer combo—super helpful for families. The kids especially loved the ping pong table! There’s also a Quick Mart right inside the hotel, which made it easy to grab breakfast items, snacks, and even last-minute things like cough drops.
We didn’t eat at the hotel since there are so many incredible options just steps away—but that’s part of the charm of staying here.
Overall, a comfortable, convenient, and family-friendly place to stay in Hanoi. Highly recommend!From€137

Perfect little touch for my husband’s birthday. The staffs were accommodating and very professional. Reception was great too. We arrived about 8pm and we didn’t have to wait long before the Check in process was completed, was ushered to a relaxing and comfortable room soon after. The room is spacious and basic amenities was there. I definitely enjoyed the pool but the jacuzzi has not been working for the entire time of my stay. There was no attendant to ask questions too though.

The front desk staff were warm and beautiful. A special shout-out to Cathy, a staff member who was truly beautiful and kind-hearted. Even with a language barrier, she was always smiling and incredibly patient, helping me with translations without any fuss. They escorted us to our room during check-in and even saw us off at the hotel entrance until we left at check-out. This is truly a top-notch hotel. The bellboys and concierge greeted us immediately, opened doors, and even pressed the elevator for us. The service was absolutely fantastic! It was even better and more attentive than the Sofitel I stayed at in Hanoi a few days prior. They also gave us complimentary drink vouchers for the rooftop bar, where the sunset was stunning. If you're coming to Hanoi, definitely stay here – it's genuinely better than the Sofitel. The hotel contacted me on WhatsApp before our stay to offer tours to other cities since they’re also a travel agency. We didn’t reply, but when we arrived after a long flight, instead of checking us in right away, the staff still tried to sell us some tours. I didn’t really mind, but I was tired and wouldn’t book anything last minute anyway.
The elevator is quite slow, and even with it, you still have to go down one flight of stairs to reach your room. As soon as we opened the door, there was a strong unpleasant smell. The staff said it was because they had just cleaned and suggested we leave the door open for several minutes — not ideal when all you want to do is rest.
They provide complimentary water, coffee, and tea, and breakfast is included. However, the breakfast spread is the same every day, and the bread is already pre-toasted, so it’s cold by the time you get to the small dining area. If you come down late, there’s usually not much food left.
Basic toiletries like towels, toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, and shampoo are provided. The bathroom has a bidet, but the shower’s water pressure is quite weak.
Note that the hotel is **not accessible by car** — taxis will drop you off nearby, and you’ll have to walk a bit and find your way via Google Maps. The location is very central, just a one-minute walk to St. Joseph’s Cathedral and surrounded by many restaurants, cafés, and spas. It may look a bit sketchy at first, but this seems typical for the Old Quarter area.
Soundproofing is poor — you can hear noise from the street and even from the next room. Some balusters on the staircase are coming loose, and there were red hairs in the shower area, which suggests it wasn’t thoroughly cleaned. The facilities overall feel quite old.
If you’re particular about cleanliness and comfort, this hotel might not meet your expectations. But if you just need a cheap, central place to crash for a night or two, it’s manageable.From€30

We booked a cheaper room and were given a free upgrade upon arrival. We were also given drinks vouchers for the bar upstairs which made us feel welcome. When we arrived, staff members came out to the taxi to help us with our belongings and carried the prams up the little steps at the entrance of the hotel which was incredibly kind. We handed our passports over and were given a refreshing beverage each while we sat in the lounge waiting on check-in. They let us check in very early as they had a room available for us which we were thankful for after a long flight with two babies. The pool is small but lovely. The room was great and had a tiny balcony for people-watching. The hotel itself is a 5 minute walk from train street and therefore an excellent location for visiting Hanoi. I stayed at Oriental Suites Hotel & Spa in Hanoi and really enjoyed it. The location is excellent – right in the middle of the Old Quarter, which makes it perfect for shopping, eating, and experiencing the nightlife. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the rooms were clean and comfortable.
The only downside was that my room didn’t have any windows, which made it feel a bit enclosed. That said, everything else was great, and for the location and service, it’s still a fantastic choice.From€44

This is a hidden gem in the midst of the old quarter. A part of Hanoi where a myriad of shops selling a huge range of goods exists next to Hanoi's seemingly endless coffee shops. In very European architecture These small shops are bustling throughout the day.
The hotel is nestled comfortably up a side street accessible via both stress, though only one is used by taxis. The staff are extremely friendly and make it their business to ensure the traveller is well looked after.
Rooms are clean and come with a stocked fridge with Beer and soft drinks. The air conditioning is superb and in near 40C heat it is so welcoming. The balcony is large. Almost a second room in itself. Sit on the balcony in the evening during a thunder storm and watch the light show in the night sky...tremendous. With the balcony walls being solid, privacy is guaranteed as is safety...not going to fall off this.
Breakfast is a pleasant mix of western and Asian. Cold cuts or cooked food. Eggs done by the chef to order.
The hotel has a small travel desk so do ask about places to visit. Staff are very knowledgeable.
Top tip: get the GRAB or BE app to book your taxis and avoid cab hailing....the risk of being scammed is very high.
One final thought...not far is Railway Street. I won't spoli it....go and find out what happens. Get a daily timetable of trains. It is an experience.

This hotel was nice. The location bit far from the tourist attraction that maybe need to consider to book in future. The hotel is not a muslim friendly. The staff also does not about halal. When we confirmed if they do not cook pork, they said yes, they do not cook pork and We order noodle and chicken soup on the first day without knowing they also cook pork in this hotel. We just realized the hotel also cook pork on the next day, when they have pork food in their menu. We ended up only eat salad for the rest of our staying in this hotel for our breakfast.From€26

This has got to be our all-time favourite hotel stay ever! If we could give higher ratings, we would - especially for service. They treated us exceptionally well, were on hand to take care of our every need, and regularly greeted us like family. It was such a welcoming environment, the hotel is beautiful, the rooms are clean, beds are comfortable, and has everything you need. The location is fantastic too, right in the old quarter, convenient to most sights and attractions. We have already booked another stay, and plan to come again in the future. Hanoi for four nights, and it was an unforgettable experience. From the moment I arrived, the staffs went above and beyond to make me feel welcome, especially staff Kathy is so sweet and helpful. The room was spacious, spotless, and the hotel location is another huge plus, as it’s right in the heart of the city, within walking distance of great restaurants, shops, and night markets. Despite being so central, the rooms were quiet, allowing me to relax completely.
I also loved the on-site dining options, especially the breakfast buffet. There were plenty of choices, from fresh fruit to made-to-order omelets, and everything was delicious. I would highly recommend to stay here when you plan to have a trip in Hanoi.From€92

The best thing about this hotel is its perfect location. It is very close to the old quarter beer/bar/food/coffee street. It is right in the middle of the busy city center. Shopping streets are everywhere and are reachable in few steps. From the hotel, you can reach the Hoah Kiem Lake in 3-5 minutes. Breakfast is not huge but is ok.
The downside is that the hotel is pretty old as most hotels in the area are and is not well-maintained. The staff are very-friendly, but the service has much more potential. The amenities could be better: in my room the shower holder is broken, the bedsheet has stain, and the slipper provided has some hair strands. Will try another hotel next time.From€44

Location was good, service was pleasant and fast.
Room was overall clean and pleasant smelling when first checked-in. Now on the bad - ants slowly started to appear after my first night of stay in the room and toilet. Booked a family room and was indicated it had a courtyard view. But in actual fact, it was the last room on the inner side of the hotel with view of a wall from a tiny window. I didn’t bother drawing the blinds up. There are two fake windows as well. But being at the back of the hotel, it is a quiet room away from the street traffic if that’s what you value. Breakfast was below average - pho wasn’t good for a place where pho originates. Hotel was great in offering packet breakfast for my early flight. However don’t hold high expectations as they are just enough to not go hungry - was interesting how one packet had jam and butter, one packet had only butter, and one packet had nothing for the bread. When checking out, the front desk insisted on me completing my review right there and then with a 10/10 rating and to include his name in the review before I could leave. I have never encountered such insistent request and I believe it might have to do with being rewarded by the hotel management for being named in good reviews? Totally understand it might not be the front desk’s fault if they are following instructions but such insistent requests are a major turn off, especially in the wee hours when I have to catch my flight. Out my 4 trips to Vietnam across the various cities, this is my least liked hotel. There are definitely better hotels in the vicinity at similar price point.From€44

The room was clean and tidy and had all working facilities. The service was friendly and the facilities within the hotel were very good, with free bicycle rental/pool/gym and so on. We knew the location beforehand but should be considered by others as around 20-30 minutes from the centre. That said there is also a free shuttle bus 4 times a day that we availed. The hotel is located in the middle of Hanoi's tourist Old Quarter and is decorated in French style. For me the hotel had the perfect location. There is nothing negative about the entire hotel! It was terrible visit
I stayed 2 nights and every single morning they start the construction for renovation or something(I don't know well actually)
The problem is that the noise is too loud to sleep with drilling and hammering sound.
The manager of the hotel, gave me some options like move to other room or a little more sleep at other room
But, the issue was they don't have any will to stop doing that construction
If the hotel has any plan for reconstruction or any related plan, then they should have noticed

This hotel was absolutely unreal. From the moment we arrived, we were approached with polite and kind attitudes not the staff, offered a medicinal tea during our wait and patiently assisted in locating am ATM to retrieve cash for a deposit. Every instance of our arrival and departure from the hotel for our day to day activities followed by polite greetings from the front desk staff.
The view was beautiful, and the service apartment came supplied with several household objects including cooking pots, pans, and utensils. It was also equipped with a microwave which was very convenient.
The location which just a 15-20 minute drive from Old Quarter, and still convenient enough for exploring by walking. There were several authentic shops and restaurants nearby which made for easy access to great meals and snacks during daily activities. I would highly recommend a stay with this hotel.From€83

For me personally the best and worst at the same time is location.
Pro - right at the entry to old quarter center
Con - directly In front is a trauma unit of the local hospital and quite busy road - expect noise and ambulances. Sound insulation is weak. In 3 days I haven't had a good night's sleep.
