It’s a nice place. Upon our arrival, we were suitably greeted. Given basic info regarding breakfast times etc (8-11:30 i believe), and given our room key. We were allocated room 4. Up the first set of stairs (30 ish steps for reference-no lift in the hotel), is where rooms 1-3 are located. Another set of steps (50+ total) for rooms 4-6 the another set to the top of rooms 5-9. Worth noting here, we’d paid for what we believed was the best room (I’m unsure as to how many of each rooms per category they have). It was my husbands birthday and also our anniversary. So the royal mile room, that came with its beautiful linens, roll top/free standing bath etc (as per its online description). Only. It didn’t. Well not in my room anyway!? Both other rooms on our level (5/6) had their door open at one point whilst being cleaned-both were quite a bit bigger than mine. Laid out nicer. And seemed a much better standard than mine. Hmm. So was I even given the more expensive room that I paid a premium for? Maybe I’ll never know. It did state on their website that we’d receive a mini bar as part of our RM room-but that was literally some drinks that required paying for, that could literally be moved very easily between rooms. The fire escape plan on the door seems to suggest our room is the smallest on our floor too. Very suspicious in my opinion. But how would I ever know….? Something to think about. The blatant *********ing outside our window was also really off putting. Not really what you want to see on a romantic trip away. A homeless person kicking what appeared to be a very pregnant dog, then partaking in multiple *********s. Not nice. I know it’s not the fault of the hotels but I’m not sure I’m the first to witness it either. Now I’ve mentioned it-maybe someone can moniter it? The homeless owning dogs is rife and is really unsettling. Never any water etc. Horrible. Anyway. Back to our room. We had breakfast included in our stay. First morning we ordered. Received. Ate. Then offered our room number. No one said anything. No one confirmed we were good to go. Just left to assume all was ok-and left. The next day, the guy did ask our room number, but again, no real care no real attention no rapport. Didn’t recognise us. Ask us any questions. All very basic interaction. Not special. Definitely wouldn’t have come back the second morning had we not had it included in our stay. Completely underwhelming. We had drinks in the hotel each night. I opted once for a cocktail. Called ‘treacle’. It was £10.50 + the piss take 20% on top of EVERY. SINGLE. DRINK. YOU. GO. TO. THE. BAR. TO. PURCHASE!!?? Yep. Automatically added. So almost £13 for what was literally a whisky with what i believe to be a splash of apple juice?!? It was horrible. If I had a lighter on me and lit it, the bar would’ve gone up. It was awful. I had a sip and left it. Did anyone care? Ask why it’d not been touched? Nope. No one really cares about anything it seems. The

This was the first place we visited for a drink when we arrived in Edinburgh! We had our family dog with us and it was great to know that they were dog friendly! At first we sat outside at the front of the bar which looks over the Royal Mile but it started to get cold so we moved inside where it was warm and comfortable! The bar is decorated lovely and the drinks tasted great! The staff were also very friendly! Thank you and we hope to visit again soon!
