I stayed in altaf motel with my mom & 3years kid. I booked for inter connect room, which i got at the time of check-in. I rated 4 because of dev who was a care taker of that motel. I asked him to blow few ballons as i want to click few pictures of my kid while cutting the cake as his post birthday celebration. And he was so quick in that. He was just a call away. About room i would say, not maintained. Both the latches were broken. I even took the pictures of it. Bedsheets were smelling bad.

This is a historically important location in Matheran. Ratheesh and his business partner were so welcoming and helpful and the accommodation is so full of character. For a truly “green” and unique stay in a totally unique location, the Verandah in the Forest is absolutely a must. This is undoubtedly the place to stay in Matheran if you can get a room - would suggest booking early so as not to miss the chance to stay here - and is so much more than a hotel.
Food was superb and because of the size and layout, never seemed busy. Quiet and relaxing stay.
As there’s no phone signal in Matheran Hill Station I’d suggest contacting Ratheesh before making the ascent to the hill station for location instructions. There is wi-fi at the Verandah in the Forest.

The stay was comfortable. The staff is accommodative and welcoming. Location is a little far from railway station. 1.3km to be exact. So if you have more luggage then take hand rikshaw. Resort is beautiful. Greenery everywhere. Some rooms are too small. So go for delux rooms and not cottages. Food is ok. This being resort, 9% GST id applied on restaurant bill. So be mindful.From€18
